Mists of Pandaria Media Blowout [NDA lifted!]

Looks like its confirmed. I won't be getting this expansion, or resubbing. The only thing I want or would go back to would be a server that has vanilla WoW on it. Prior to any sort of patch, other than server stability.

Yep.

Quitting after Cata xpac.

This is bullshit.

Blizzard, it's official, your running out of ideas.

The expansion genuinely loaded with new ideas and new approaches to content is the one that's running out of ideas? Not the one that did next to nothing to progress the game beyond where it was in Wrath?

WoW fans tend to be a bitter, tired lot who always want the new thing but pine for the old things instead all while complaining that the game never does anything new.

The backlash against the steps they take "to get out in this gorgeous world we poured our hearts into" will be terrifying.

Hopefully Pokepets will become a thing and not an Arena-esque grind.

Pandaren women still have those fucking Furry eyes. *shudder*

Hopefully they'll show us how monk healing works! Gonna be soooooo good :_:

Just like every other healing class! Balance!

The final patch of Mists of Pandaria will be the Siege of Orgrimmar! Both factions lay siege to the city to bring Garrosh down and end his reign of Warchief. World event, a.k.a only thing that's new

I don't plan on resubscribing unless Mists of Pandaria is free like GB think it's going to be.

However almost everything you say is "recycled" is all new content, and a few of them, fresh new ideas not done before in World of Warcraft ever.

WoW fans tend to be a bitter, tired lot who always want the new thing but pine for the old things instead all while complaining that the game never does anything new.

Speaking from my own four year stint with WoW, I struggle to see how anyone can enjoy playing one game like that for so long. Blizzard can only add so much to the increasingly dated engine until there's nothing left to be done outside of remixing and recycling what's already there. I absolutely grew fatigued with the game by the time I quit, but I'm more inclined to accept that I just wanted to move on than I am to malign the developers.

The real question I think that needs asked are what would you like to see that would keep you playing? Obviously you've got some good, new ideas beyond what they've announced so I'm curious what it is that'd keep you playing. Turn this constructive instead of just complaining.

Can someone tell me where these are because I'm itching to play them.

Best thing about the new talent trees Is I can finally use shadowstep with out being shoehorned into lame ass sub.

Probably means they're taken from timed runs, but that's a really weak complaint. Timed runs really deserved to be expanded upon and hopefully the rewards and support for these don't wind up like... say... Archaeology. Them starting off the idea of time trials without proper rankings until down the line is already a bit of an eye-roller.

By the way, have they said a single thing about Archaeology in Pandaria, because it was an absolute embarrassment during Cata and pretty much was a solid synopsis to post-launch window game design and support in that expansion altogether.

It could have been such a cool idea, though. I mean there's one thing you could massively expand upon to get people into the world a bit more, but I see it rotting again, as my guess, with a few launch trinkets (non-scaling ones with an expiration date) as the sole driving force.

All I care about is Monk and seeing the raids.
New zones to blow through once and then annoy me on my alts, the 42309th revision to talents, pokemon lol zzz, 3! rehashed dungeons!?

I guess I will give them my money even though I'm not really feeling it this time

Yeah. If that's what he's referring to then it's kameha5th who's running out of ideas not Blizzard.

I've always thought that you can measure how successful a game is going to be by how stupid the detracting arguments are. So far it looks like Pandaria will be the best expo yet.

There used to be 'extra' timed difficulty objectives in very specific dungeons. Like reaching Baron in Stratholme Undead before he executed his prisoner. Ditto for Heroic Shattered Halls. Same for keeping Millhouse Manastrom alive during the final boss of Heroic Arcatraz, which wasn't a timed objective but was definitely more difficult than ignoring him during a boss encounter when mind control was frequently applied to random targets. And lest we forget, there used to be 'Tribute' runs in Dire Maul north that required you reach and slay the final boss without killing any boss prior to him.

WotLK had the mount runs in Heroic Culling of Stratholme and that was about it. They reinvested the work in creating extra challenge objectives in the raid dungeons before there was a 'heroic' switch to flip on and off.

Unfortunately all these challenges were easily outgeared or outleveled and could be plowed without much difficulty over time. There weren't such challenges in Cata dungeons off the top of my head, just 'rush to the final boss and loot his innards.'

What's new in the Mists edition is that you seem to get locked at a certain equipped ilvl (not unlike Burning Circles in FFXI Online) and you have to complete the dungeon under a timer. Probably not as lore-rich as the Tempest Keep attunement chains but it's there, I guess.

I will likely end up playing the expansion, but I guarantee you that it will remain a game where the only objective is to get to the level cap as quickly as possible so you can farm raids and do daily quests for a year. It's all very formulaic by now, and introducing a Pokemon simulator and pandas isn't going to address the game's underlying problems.

But your money will already be taken, mission accomplished for them imo.

Might have already been asked but I can't find it: Anyone have a link to the new Talents/Spells for the expansion?

Probably won't ever resub, but I always like seeing what they do with the old classes.

This is so creepy!

Funny thing is, I was just talking in my guild chat about new character models. I mentioned that if they were to do it, it would have to be done race by race so as to not create a cluster fuck of crazy. After looking at an interview my stance is confirmed as Dwarves were almost ready to go live with their new character models for MoP. I'm thinking that over a course of patches the vanilla races will be updated. It is probably going to take longer than desired for most though.

There was a blue post today that dropped a tidbit:

I actually got a chance to teleport to a different dig site last night after finding an artifact, which really helped, along with now being able to dig more times at a single site.

One of the factions is supposed to be tied into the profession, too, with possibilities for linking them to the existing races down the line.

The underlying problem is that raid content is extremely intensive to develop and players feel like they have nothing to do after they do their raids for the week. Most of the new content being introduced gives variety and new repeatable content which should ameliorate those times when you login to talk to people but have nothing to do but sit in Stormwind/Org.

UD have some mad jiggly DOA corpse boobs, so god damn gross.

"Yes, they're real. They're not mine, but they're real."

The underlying problem is that raids are extremely intensive to develop and players feel like they have nothing to do after they do their raids for the week. Most of the new patches being introduced gives variety and new repeatable activities which should ameliorate those times when you login to talk to people but have nothing to do but sit in Stormwind/Org.

And there's the rub, even quite casual people found themselves eyeing things that they didn't like to do for their itinerary because with the exception of Tuesday night, anything they did was of no use to bettering that main character. Reraiding on alts made the dungeons boring faster. Gold meant nothing. Professions were now an in-battle stat bonus that's a pre-req for raids (and therefor quickly acquired by design). You could fly nearly everywhere making exploration an afternoon at the longest. Etc. Etc.

What once terrified the most elite of elites was now a reality for most: personally being "done" with the game as it is atm. Dropped subs was beyond a logical result.

I mean, I hope stuff like Pokepets take off, wish player housing/guild halls had and whatnot, but I'm almost assured it will backfire if/when it's deemed "required" to advance, as so much of the playerbase expects the destination now and has no use for the journey, no matter how good the journey is made.

That "staying the same difficulty" talk makes me wonder how they'll handle dungeon nerfs in regards to challenge mode. Through patch updates the Cata heroics were made much easier over time.

Chances are that the dungeons will be more in line with Wrath difficulty up front and won't need much, if any, nerfing.

they just wouldn't nerf them I presume?
They already scale your gear down, if they nerf heroics they just don't nerf the challenge modes. seems simple enough

I really don't have any faith in them handling this correctly. Class inbalance is going to strike really hard in challenge modes, where in heroics gear triumphs skill and design.

If you recall in BC, the difference in doing heroics shattered halls with a warrior tank and paladin tank, or say doing heroic mag's terrace without a mage/warlock.

People are going to complain in the long run.

I can see it really affecting those going for high scores on the leaderboards, but my guess is that they'll set the challenge for gold medals at a level where pretty much any composition of good players will be able to complete it. Class balance, or homogenization, has reached a level where the composition just won't be that important if all you care about is doing just good enough to get the best rewards.

This. Yeah, I remember BC. I did SH runs for keying requirements on my warrior alt and my rogue main, and it was definitely harder but you could do it. Now? None of those imbalances exist. only to the smallest degree. It takes a supremely fucked up group comp to lack CC or have no ability to AE or whatever other issue might arise.

I wouldn't be surprised if in some instances a paladin tank is better than a warrior tank in order to get Gold in Challenge Mode. Not sure what they'd do about it since it's supposed to be hard to do, but not being able to use another tank to get it done is bad. I do hope they don't nerf the place in those cases, but we'll see once it goes live.
