To think, if it weren't for these moves Sabean made the Giants would not have eventually won the World Series:

2002 – Edgardo Alfonzo – 4yr/26M
2003 – Boof Bonser, Francisco Liriano, Joe Nathan for Pierzynski Trade
2004 – Armando Benitez – 3yr/21M
2005 – Matt Morris – 3yr/27M
2006 – Barry Zito – 7yr/126M, Honorable Mention to Dave Roberts – 3yr/18M
2007 – Aaron Rowand – 5yr/60M
2008 – Edgar Renteria – 2yr/18M
2009 – Mark DeRosa – 2yr/12M

Watch this actually happen.

Is Chien Ming Wang going to be able to play?
Maybe. I don't even know if the Nats will pick him up though, knowing this organization we probably just paid him $1 million to recover for somebody else.

Can the Nationals score 7 runs a game for him so he can win 19 games?
I didn't realize we were talking about Phil Hughes.

So a Gaffer is running BtB now. I pretty much stopped reading that site after Tommy Bennett and Sky Kalkman stopped posting there though it's still in my RSS feed. Maybe this "new direction" will pull me back in. Needs more math.

The Mets have asked for waivers on LHP Hisanori Takahashi for the purpose of granting him his unconditional release after being unable to come to terms on a new contract.

Regarding Takahashi, Mets GM Sandy Alderson said:

“Hisanori wanted to test the free agent market…We thank Hisanori for his contributions to the Mets in 2010 and wish him good luck in his future major league career.”

The Mets technically have until midnight tonight to sign Hisanori Takahashi.

According to Jon Heyman of SI.com, Takahashi was seeking a three year deal worth approximately $4-5 million per year, buy according to David Waldstein of the New York Times, the Mets were only willing to give him one year and an option, for a total value of around $3 million.

For what it’s worth, the Mets are going to miss Takahashi, but his asking price was too high, given his age and the role he would most likely be in.

I’d be surprised if he could get what he’s asking for on the open market, but you never know, especially with the Yankees having a need for his services.
Fuck.

Big Time Timmy Jim has one of the best 3 year resumes ever?

In his first three full seasons...

2 cy youngs.
3 all star games.
3 K crowns
4 playoff wins
2 world series wins
1 World Championship ring

I <3 you. I fucking love you.

How Changes to MLB’s Luxury Tax Could Influence Player Contracts, Now

Apparently with the labor agreement set to expire in Dec. of 2011 it might affect how teams structure multi-year contracts this year and the next. And it looks like there might be talk of a "soft cap" or a luxury tax for teams that go below a certain amount.

Well hopefully a soft cap is just the first step towards a hard cap. There needs to be a floor and a celling on what teams can spend.

Thank god someone else agrees. I'm getting sick of having to watch the Yankees vs Mets in every WS.

There was that one time when it was Red Sox v. Cubs. That was different.

I am actually sick of seeing the Royals and Pirates in it every fucking year.
Hmm, forcing the Royals to spend more on their major league roster might actually make them worse.

Why would it make them worse? Unless you think they would just throw the extra money at some bad free agent just to comply? I would think that the hope would be that they would spend that money on signing young talent rather then declining free agents. I guess we wont know until it happens but it would be sad if the teams at the bottom in terms of payroll didnt use the extra money to improve.

Dayton Moore.

Edit: I have now dissed the Royals three times on one page.

So I'm hearing Terry Collins is the frontrunner for Mets Manager...

So Texas has placed a bid on Hisashi Iwakuma.

Sources: #Rangers, not #Mariners, may be high bidder for RHP Hisashi Iwakuma, considered second best pitcher in Japan. MORE #MLB

There's a scouting report of him here http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=12376

I really don't know much about him, but reading that nothing really jumps out except his one out pitch, the splitter. He'd definitely be an up grade over Tommy Hunter.

So the Rangers would have two pitchers who spent time in Japan. Maybe we're trying to build up a fanbase there as a bonus.

isn't the actual Hiroki Kuroda a free agent too?

In his few interviews it seems he likes being in SoCal but he also misses his home a lot. Wonder if the Dodgers can convince him to come back, I don't want padilla or the ortiz twins again.

Phillies should pick up Kuroda so he can't 1-hit them any more.

Also, you picked the wrong Kat Dennings pictures for your avatar, RC.

Doytch is Canada like 6 months behind the US in commercials? Those ads aired way back in May/June.
No no, we got those commercials ages ago. Doytch is just slow.

Jeter has to be behind this. Using his influence to jack up the contracts around MLB to entice the Yanks into a lousy deal. Brilliant!
