Damn
A legal slide is one aimed at a base and not a player. It is also made well in advance of the base and not when the runner is already at said base.
EDIT: Utley only gets two games?
Too early to say obviously but it had a similar feel to it. Team totally down on luck.. and bam.Could that be the home run turns this series around? Like the one Alomar hit off of Eckersley?

This has never been the case in the MLB. It's why you see take-out slides every freaking game designed to up-end the fielder in the process of a double play. Slides like Utley's slide have been a part of the game forever.
Did this change when the NY tabloids started going crazy? Did baseball suddenly change?
You can call what Utley did interference if you want, but players have been sliding in the vicinity of the bag knowing they are out for a long damn time. They aren't running down there to touch base. They are trying to disrupt the double play.

This is textbook. This is how you're supposed to do it, get in their way and disrupt their footing.
Don't aim at a guys legs. Anything that puts all of your weight into the guy throwing is bush league, period.

I hope they get a lot more. Still don't trust it.5 runs... Hope thats enough.
This is actually not text book. Look how far he is away from the bag. Look how he raises his hand to sway and disrupt the throw.
Utley hand went over the bag. The only difference is that Utley broke Tejada's leg.
If that's textbook then they should have called it that way all this time instead of waiting for some guy to get injured and the NY media to go into an uproar to change the rules after the fact.
They never changed the rules. There has been a rule for years and years and years. The MLB needs to call it.
Ignoring the fact that Utley aimed straight for Ruben's body, started his slide when he already started passing the bag, and slid late.
But you are right, that is the only difference.
Nah man, you're not supposed to slide early so you can actually slide INTO the bag. Slides should start at or past the bag obviously.
