Tomodachi wa Mahou
Richie Shaffer rotting away back in AAA while the Rays don't even have anyone physically capable of playing 1B defensively. Such a fucking joke.

Baseball should also have Designated Fielders and Designated Runners

Who wants to see people who suck at running the bases and fielding their position do so?

you know plenty of teams don't even use dedicated DHs anymore, right? in some cases, sure, they let old guys who can't field anymore prolong their careers, but usually DHs can play a position. it lets guys take days off from fielding 162 grueling games. it's a good thing. the DH not only keeps pitchers healthy, it keeps position players healthy.

Players get injured playing the field and running all the time, why not have Designated Fielders and Runners?

Injury prevention isn't a good argument for the DH

I'm actually probably in favor of the DH, if for no other reason than to normalie rules between leagues

They need to get rid of that stupid tomahawk chop already. It makes a mockery of Native American culture.

The guy on Fox Sports 1 was saying how much he loves it =/

I've hated that thing since the Braves lost to the Jays in the '92 World Series :D

Edit - A guy fell from the upper deck in Atlanta as A-Rod walked to the plate, the commentators mentioned it =/

Base running can cause freak injuries just like anything else. Especially to pitchers, I should point out, since they don't necessarily know what the hell they're doing out there when they do get on.

Fielding causes wear and tear. Days off help with that.

Anyway, one last case: Jose Bautista hurt his shoulder back in May, couldn't throw a ball. He was able to DH a month so we didn't have to put one of our most valuable bats on the DL. So yeah, I'd say injuries play a pretty big part in why the DH is a good rule.

ESPN's Wallace Matthews tweets: "A witness said the fan was leaning over the rail screaming at A-Rod when he suddenly tumbled over the rail."

When Yankees' slugger Alex Rodriguez came to pinch hit in the seventh inning Saturday night against the Atlanta Braves, a fan in section 401 at Turner Field apparently fell out of an upper deck seat down into the first level.

The fan needed emergency care. His immediate condition is unknown.

A fan, who didn't want to be named, in section 401, told NJ Advance Media it was a man, who was apparently drunk, screaming at the Yankees with A-Rod came up. This person said the man flew over her and her two sisters from a row behind her and barely touched them as he went.

The man was in the second row of section 401. It was sort as if he jumped, she said.

She said he had been acting belligerently drunk all game. There was still a large wet stain on the railing in section 401 from what she said was his drink. The girls soon left their seats with security and several rows from the section were cleared out.

A security guard told NJ Advance that the man who fell was a season-ticket holder.

The fan sitting in 401 said she saw him fell and hit a railing, then bounce, and hit another one. The fall looks well over 100 feet.

Apparently a user on /r/baseball's thread on the fan falling said that if the drop down was 100 feet, that:

According to free fall calculations, the man hit the ground at a speed of about 54 miles per hour. He spent 2.5 seconds in free fall.

He definitely is not going to make it.
