Robin Ventura is on the hot seat with the White Sox, Heyman writes (adding more detail here). A team source tells him that there’s a feeling that “patience has been shown” and a change could benefit the team. Bench coach Rick Renteria, who formerly managed the Cubs, could succeed Ventura. Not that it’s particularly surprising, but Heyman adds that former skipper Ozzie Guillen wouldn’t be a candidate to return to his old post.

it's hard to gauge from the cubs 73-89 record... how was Rick Renteria as a manager for the cubs?

He was fine. A bit uninspiring, but he did the best he could with the garbage that he had to work with. Didn't deserve to be canned, but obviously when you have an opportunity to get Joe Madden, you do it. He should definitely have an opportunity to manage again, and probably will do a pretty good job. I'd take him over Ventura, but I think the White Sox problems are with management. Tear that down and build an actual contender, instead of trading all your prospects and trying to patch holes with high priced FAs.

No idea what Rizzo is doing on that play but the out was on the tag so the run should score to make it 6-0. Just hope that everyone is ok.

Well that run definitely did not score before the tag out but they gave it to the Cubs anyway.

He was great with the kids. Rizzo and Castro had breakout years. He was trying to win and overused the bullpen and FO reined him in.

I think he's a good baseball man and a good manager. He deserves another shot.

to be fair the white sox haven't traded much of interest for the last few years and those that they did got solid returns. A lot of the farm issue is still from when williams ran things and traded everything away for people. Hahn does a much better job at trading for a net gain.

as for the high priced FAs, well really Hahn's signings there haven't been bad either. He focuses a lot more on short signings such as laroach. The white sox after this year will really only have one contract that could be bad on the books, James Shields, but even then as long as his two starts are just a bad stretch instead of the end of his career (which given his build and age a bad stretch seems more likely as while he is getting up there, he isn't so old that he should be falling appart) then it's not a bad contract since they have a solid innings eater at like 10 mil a year.

really we will have to see how the next month goes. The white sox are showing signs of coming out of their funk, in a still quite winable AL central. The white sox could maybe tear things down, and in a few years be scary, but there is absolutely no chance that will happen with the current owner. If they have a chance to make it to the playoffs they are going to take it as the owner is getting up there in age and wants to win another championship before he dies. quite frankly as long as you make it to the playoffs it basically becomes a crap shoot as to who wins. it's quite common that the best team from the regular season doesn't win the world series.

That Jays bandwagon gonna fill up again soon. And this offense may be even better than last season with Saunders/Smoak/Travis/Barney.
