Seriously? They won 64 games last year with basically everyone hurt and atrocious defense all over the diamond. The D will be much, much better this year. I have no doubt Mauer rebounds, Span should as well. I have no expectations out of Morneau, but I think if Morneau is playing to his ability they'll flirt with .500.

The rotation is trash, but they play in a weak division, and the offense should be drastically improved over last year. I'd be fairly shocked if they won less than 74 games. Nearly as shocked as I would be if the Tigers won over 94 games.

No way do the Tigers win over 94. Leyland's terrible decisions in regards to whom he plays in the field on many instances will make sure of that. And probably another season of wildly inconsistent offense

And I just don't believe in the Twins, no matter whom they field. Probably my bias as a Twins hater speaking, but it is what it is. The great thing with baseball, though, is the unpredictability the sport brings. For all we know, the Astros could shock the world (no, they won't)!

I would have liked the Yankees to have Damon instead, and I still don't like them getting rid of Montero, but pitching should be better at least. Arod has to be back to hitting without injuries or they won't win anything. With this team I just don't think they are better than Philly, Texas, Detroit. They are about even with Tampa and Red Sox.

You can do the very same thing with our rotation, plus you have some other insurance starters.

I did this last season where I posed the question, how many players on the Yankees would you take over Red Sox at each respective position? There were only a couple Yankees. Still, for almost twenty years now (another god I feel old) you guys somehow manage to tough out the division.

So, just give the umpire a catcher's mitt and call it a day?

A play at the plate is one of the more entertaining things to see during a game. I don't want to see catchers not bother to play the position correctly to avoid tickytac shit. This isn't the NBA.

Obstruction rule doesn't apply if you have the ball or it's being thrown to you. I'm not sure why you would want to block the plate otherwise, except to get your leg broken. Other bases are obstructed all the time (see: rundowns), just without violent endings. That doesn't seem to be a function of the rules, however, which doesn't make an exception for home plate. If anything, it is closer to offensive interference. Then again, so is the hard slide to break up the double play and that never gets called.

ball and not in the act of fielding the ball, impedes the progress of
any runner.

Rule 2.00 (Obstruction) Comment: If a fielder is about to

A great start to spring training for the Braves:


LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – Tommy Hanson and the Braves got a scare Monday morning when the pitcher drove off the road in a one-car accident that left him with a possible concussion. The Braves were awaiting test results.

The incident occurred at about 7 a.m., three hours before the Braves’ first spring-training workout for pitchers and catchers at ESPN’s Wide World of Sports on the edge of Disney World outside Orlando.

Hanson told Braves officials that he blew a tire while rounding a curve near the team training site. He had his car towed and made it to camp in time for a 9:30 a.m. team meeting, before a 10 a.m. practice for pitchers and catchers. He didn’t work out.

“I heard at about 7:40,” Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said. “He called and said, ‘Hey, I’m going to be running a little late, I blew a tire.’ I said all right, fine.”

There was no incident report or charges filed, and Hanson had no visible injuries, no cuts or bruises, general manager Frank Wren said. But after Hanson complained of not feeling well following the meeting, he was checked out by the Braves training staff and sent to see a doctor for concussion testing.

“He ran off the road,” Wren said. “We don’t know a lot of details other than that. And he banged his head in the process. We’re just being cautious with him, making sure and getting him checked. He’s going to see a doctor just to double check, like we always do. There were no physical signs, other than he just doesn’t feel great.”

Gonzalez said Hanson could miss several days if he had a concussion, but that he thought the pitcher might be OK and on the field for Tuesday’s workout.

“I think everybody’s kind of cautious – and they should be – with the concussion stuff,” Gonzalez said. “I think we’re being a little proactive, we want to make sure.”
