The Nationals have made an offer to bring free-agent outfielder Yoenis Cespedes to the nation's capital, according to a report by Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com.

The team has not commented on or confirmed the report.

Washington's offer is said to be for less than the $132.75 million over six years that the Tigers will pay the newly acquired Justin Upton, according to the report.

Cespedes received an offer from the Orioles before they reached an agreement on a seven-year, $161 million contract to retain slugger Chris Davis. Cespedes has also been linked to the Padres, White Sox and Mets recently. The 30-year-old has reportedly been seeking a six-year contract for around $22 million a year.

When is the last time a team's 3 and 4 hitters from the season prior both went to a divisional rival the next year? If any team can have this done to them, it's the Mets.

@DPLennon: Manfred said NL adopting DH is gaining momentum. Expect it to be addressed in upcoming CBA, so could be for '17.

Steve pearce is an interesting 1 yr gamble. Dude has been trash except for last year which is looking like an enormous, ENORMOUS fluke

The Nats had made Cespedes a five-year offer for an unspecified amount, according to major-league sources. The Mets were unwilling to go beyond three years, sources said.

The possibility existed -- and still exists -- that other teams are still involved. But Cespedes also could be wrestling with a more fundamental choice.

According to two sources with knowledge of his thinking, he prefers to stay with the Mets.

Murphy wanted to stay a Met, but the Mets had no desire to pay to him so he had to go to the Nats. Looks like the same exact thing is gonna happen with Cespedes.

Cespedes will be 31 next year. I don't see many teams giving him the years he wants, even with next year's fa market being trash.
