MLB Off-season Thread 2015-2016 IOTI Back to the Future was a lie

Andrew Miller exited today's game after taking a line drive to his right wrist.

At least it wasn't his throwing hand.

Except for, you know, managing his team in the postseason. Cause Yost shits all over Matheny in that category.

Ned took over a trash Brewers team and made them winners. He took over a trash Royals team and got them to back-to-back World Series and a championship.

Mike Matheny took over a stacked 2012 Cardinals team and...has done what with them, exactly? Jack shit. Let me be the first to congratulate him on another successful 2016 regular season campaign!

The playoffs are a crap shoot and the Royals were a Carlos Correa error away from being bounced out in the ALDS in 4 games last year. Anything can happen in baseball over a few games. A busted Barry Zito and Marco Scutaro beat the Cards in 2012, it is what it is.

(Yost also took over the Royals when they had the #1 farm system in baseball, so hardly a rough situation. Not that Matheny wasn't handed a good situation)

Well good for him, getting back on the best seller lists.

Cardinals way.

Lot of people in Saint Louis willing to eat up anything Cardinals, tbh. From what I've heard on Cardinals broadcasts the book isn't *that* bad, mostly about how parents need to get out of the way and let coaches coach & to make youth baseball more about youth development and less about winning. Probably some religious stuff, too, since it's Mike Matheny after all, but hardly some super offensive book.

2012 Marco Scutaro was pretty good!

I like the Jays' roster, outside of their questionable bench.

Josh Thole needs to go. It's not fair to him, but I hate seeing him in the lineup and at bat. It's cringe worthy.

The goalposts keep moving!

Yost has done a far better job than Matheny navigating (AKA managing) through the crap shoot playoffs.

Don't remind me! But nothing beats Barry Zito. Total embarrassment to get beat by him in 2012.

Not as embarassing as the Tigers losing to him in the WS!

That Zito at-bat makes me laugh every time.

Is there seriously someone here arguing the merits of Ned Yost the manager?

Seriously.

Yes, there seriously is. Seriously.

You might not like his mindset or tactics (half the time I don't even understand what he's doing), but he has made it work. He took two teams from the cellar to the playoffs. Sabermetrics can't really explain him, but it has worked.

Speaking of which, is this the year the $173M Tigers are good again?

Also, Mets fans - looking like Matt Bowman is going to make the Cardinal's 25 man since Jordan Walden is broken (the Braves really got us in that trade!). Dunno if he was a favorite of anyone's here

He took two teams that had a W/L total under perform their metrics and happened to find a manager proof BP. He's an awful manager, you can easily argue he's held them back.

I'v always like him. Smart guy, probably not gonna be all that good, though, nothing of significant note about him other than a flashy breaking ball.

Smack talking between Royals and Astros fans. And the Cubs are pre-season favorites. And the Mests made it to a World Series.

What a world. What a time to be alive. All we need is an Indians-Cubs World Series and I'll go ahead and await Armageddon.
won't be this year as the white sox are taking the WS :p

As in you feel the Royals should have done more than back-to-back World Series and a championship? Get real.

I hope you're right. I look at their payroll and that team looks like such a mess. Lots of talent...being insanely overpaid.

Hey, who here is "Swatters" in the Keeper league?

.

That ball looked like it kicked off the mound a little bit and fooled Correa.

But still, the Royals were hitting every god damn ball that inning. Hard to pin it down on just that one play.

As in you feel the Royals should have done more than back-to-back World Series and a championship? Get real.

Playoffs are a crapshoot, they should have been better than the 2nd WC team in 14' and they should have been better than their record was last year. Yes.

New Yost holds your team back.

Orioles released Miguel Gonzalez. He's been awful this spring, but had been a consistent starter. I wonder who takes his slot.

Orioles put more stock into spring training than any other team. Its crazy. He wasn't particularly good last year but its not like they have a plethora of options.

They want to play out Bundy in the pen for 3 months, stretch him, then slot him into the rotation.

Plus Gonzalez is 31 and coming off his worst year.

Bucs rotation against the Cards:

Francisco Liriano
Jon Niese
Juan Nicasio

Cole still working out some kinks I guess. Glad that Nicasio made the rotation and the crazy talk about him being odd man out to Locke and Vogelsong is over.

@timwilliamsP2
Hurdle on Nicasio over Vogelsong: "It was about another guy really pitching the most effective we've ever seen him pitch.”

Mark Gonzales

Lester done after 5-inning, 10 K performance. allowed 1 hit

Remember that time Ben Cherington couldn't find the money to pay Lester but he could for Rusney Castillo, Hanley Ramirez, and Pablo Sandoval?

MIKE AND THE MAD DOG REUNION SHOW, March 30th, 8 p.m. ET on MSG Plus, WFAN, and SiriusXM

Mike Francesa and Christopher Russo, the former WFAN sports-talk radio partners, reunite tonight for the first time in eight years at Radio City Music Hall to benefit the Garden of Dreams Foundation.

The event will have raised more than $1 million before the doors open, with the hope for more to come in the form of donations during the show, which will be simulcast live on MSG Plus, WFAN and SiriusXM Satellite Radio.

Francesa and Russo will interview Mark Messier, Tom Coughlin, Bobby Valentine, Jeff Van Gundy and Joe Torre on stage, with the goal being to recreate some of the vibe of the old show.

“We’re going to give them vintage ‘Mike and the Mad Dog,’ ” Francesa said. “The show will open and you’ll hear Dog do that open and away we’ll go, and we’ll give them three hours of what we do . . . We want it to be a little uproarious and a little unpredictable, and I think that’s what it will be. It will be typical ‘Mike and the Mad Dog.’ ”

vs. Wainwright, Wacha, and Leake. Should be a good series.

Mostly just ready for some baseball. But not ready for Juan Nicasio to baffle the Cards for 7 shutout innings.

yeah, pretty much the most hype opening series i could've asked for. wish that first game wasn't an ESPN broadcast but that's a minor complaint.

That's not good.
