57 runs 79 hits in the last 7 games for the A's... Make that 59 and 80 just as I'm typing this... Oh well you can't expect a small payroll team like Boston to compete with that...

Edit:
59 runs
81 hits
16 hr
25 doubles

Well at least we had four outs of peace and no matter how much more runs they score, they will never take that away.

Mercy rule please?

9.5 lead over Cardinals, and a likely 10 game lead over Pittsburgh. I'm feeling like the Reds might have the division on lockdown.

But going based on the last time the Reds made the Playoffs, it doesn't matter how well situated they are in the regular season, it's how they perform in the post season that matters.

But either way, I just want some comfort from LGYoda and Darkside to tell me that thing are going to be better than they seem at the moment. How else can the Rays and Cards be doing so poorly?

Kind of crazy that those two Rangers/Athletics series at the end of the season will probably decide the division. Don't think anybody predicted that.

You do realize that everyone who posts here, or even just reads it, has internet access, pretty much by definition, right?

Why would I want to do that?

Not even Billy Beane!

The A's and especially the Orioles this season remind me of the '03 Royals that had a winning record apropos of nothing only to slide back into years of oblivion.

Oakland's success should be sustainable - the core of their team is young, plus they'll get to beat up on the Astros regularly starting next year.
Baltimore, though... I'm hoping they act like Seattle did a few years ago, when a good win-loss record obscured the fact they were playing way above their heads, and caused them to make a bunch of terribly short-term moves. There's no way they'll have such unprecedented luck next year. I mean, .800 in one-run games? That's not sustainable, no matter how good a team you have.

A little Off-Topic (if i can permit myself) about the usefulness of the "Official Rule" on MLB.com ...

What a good start with Baseball universe.

All aboard! The Love train!
Miguel Gonzalez a nice pitccher. Second time he pitches really well against the Yanks.

He's only had one bad start (in Tampa, when he got tagged for 7 in 2.2) this whole season. Quite the find.

The Orioles whole rotation is suddenly solid. Whatever Tillman did at Norfolk totally changed him, Britton has turned in a few quality starts in a row now, Hammel is coming back Thursday.

And Wei Yin Chen is just awesome.

Pirates brought up Brock Holt! He's been tearing up Triple-A since coming up in his last 24 games... dude has .432/.476/.537

Yeah, a huge surprise. Our pitching coaches have done an amazing job this year, considering what they have to work with. The last couple years it's been an absolute disaster. Our bullpen alone this year is just mind boggling good.

Tillman gained some velocity this year and that has helped a lot. Chen has been great, Hammel has had an amazing turn around that I hope keeps going when he gets back, and Britton has always had the ability but he goes from ground ball machine to holyshiti'mgettingrocked way too easily.

If Mark Reynolds stays hot and Markakis keeps getting on base at a good clip, we have a legit chance. With Boston turning to crap this year, the AL East has been very fun to watch. The Yankees are showing their age as well. Hopefully the division is just as crazy as this year for years to come.

The only silver lining is that nobody else in the NL WC race is playing well at the moment and it's hard to fathom the Cards playing any worse than they are right now. There's still time for everyone to break out of their slumps and play some good baseball to end the season.

Division is truly out of reach unless the Reds collapse but that's been the case for the past month.

Looking at the AL East standings, I'm torn. On the one hand, as someone who loathes the Red Sox, I would absolutely love to see them finish in last place. On the other, it'd be really nice if the Jays had a protected pick in the draft, and were able to sign a free agent or two. Root for tanking, or root for a few meaningless (but still satisfying) wins?

You've got too much time on your hands.

Man, stupid college football taking TV priority to the Rays. I'm in college now, why would I want to see more of it on television?

Sorry, bro. Baseball is "boring".

Someone should start a baseball versus football thread, but no one will care except for baseball nerds.
