Oh he's gonna be fun. I hope he makes it.

Draft starts at 12 ET. We get to see the Nats draft a bunch of players they can't sign.

I'm kidding Nats fans, I'm sure Giolito will lower his demands.

Hey I have faith. Giolito is a CAA guy just like Zimmerman and Storen. If anything, he'll sign early and cheap.

Continuing with pitying the Pirates: Mark Appel 'made himself unavaible' for a conference call yesterday with reporters, but said this today:

Sure sounds a lot different then the guy who was laughing and having a great time during his expose before the draft about possibly being the 1st overall pick and returning to his home in Houston.

This will be a tough one for Pitt. I don't think they pull it off.

wow that really fucking sucks

I don't think the Nats signing Giolito will come close to the struggles Pitt will face signing Appel. Who reportedly turned down 6 mil from the Astros and subsequently tumbled. The Pirates have roughly 3 million for that slot...

I guess he's going to go play independent ball for a year.

It's certainly possible. But something negative will come out of it (less signings, loss of pick(s)). This new CBA has people's balls in a noose.

ETA: If they don't sign Appel though their draft will be very strong next year. They will get an extra high 1st rounder, and a large budget pool, so it's not like they don't have options. I can't imagine they want to lose Appel though.

He turned down six million!? Brah is so arrogant then. It's an honor to play in the Majors not a right.

Oh shit I didn't know Appel turned down 6 mil.

Tom Krasovic of Inside the Padres was told by a major league source that Mark Appel turned down a $6 million offer by the Astros.

They're making a gamble, it will be interesting to see how it plays out.

Reddick and Lowrie.

Can the Pirates offer him more than that?

Not without incurring some penalties (I posted above that if they go 1 mil over they lose their 1st rounders in the next 2 years). I believe they have a little over 6 mil for their first 10 picks.

My prediction is they don't go higher than 4, Appel doesn't sign, and they have 2 1st round picks next year.

Excellent Trades!

I'm not too mad, honestly. More disappointed about Reddick, however Sweeney has been stellar this year. A treat to watch. Lowrie just never would have made it up here. He isn't great defensively and was injured to often to see a clear picture of his future at the plate.

I love how fired up John Perotto is over the perceived snubbing by Appel. He called me baby yesterday. I've never been more uncomfortable.

Yeah, not to mention the time that Castro was caught not looking at the batter when a pitch was thrown. It was accompanied by an entertaining Valentine rant.
Can't fault him, no one is paying attention to their collective haplessness. Except the Padres FO who are almost in a dead heat with them for the #1 pick next year.

Cubs have drafted 7 pitchers in a row, their only non-pitcher was Almora in the 1st.

Damn there are like no Rays being voted for. Longo has barely played this season, damn fans.

Looks like Matt Joyce is going to have to get in again thanks to his peers. He gets no respect.
