Yes, it just breaks the other way. Anyways, it is not nearly as clear cut as the other posters suggest. You can try changing grips to throw one or the other, but it comes down to velocity (which gives the slider its vertical break), so it is determined after the fact.

Edit: I guess that a lefty's cutter would just run away from lefties, into righties. So nvm.

Also a cutter's velocity is much closer to the pitchers fastball velocity.
