Hopefully those guide books get localized (and possibly compiled into one book). I know I'd buy it for the extra convenience print form provides.

It was obviously a PR answer (lie). I think someone else at Capcom confirmed that the main reason was budget concerns or something like that.
Yeah, that was a part of the original announcement. Here's the thread for the announcement (which is worth reading through for all the butthurt :lol).

Thanks for the link. That thread is hilarious... and sad.
Yeah, makes me wish I had a time machine to let the doubters how wrong they were :lol.

Edit: Also this thread is a nice compliment piece just for the argument Tenbatsu started. He's psychic I tell you :lol.

Dam you for digging out that thread:lol

And then they release the game with a classic controller, which is hands down the superior way to play the game?
This I don't really agree, Wiimote controls is fantastic too.

Yeah, I recall reading that somewhere when they first revealed MH3.

Yeah, I gotta agree. Even with my MH1 addiction, I still tend to play more with the wiimote combo more. having two separate dongles are really suited to long hunts.

But can someone actually post the controls for Tri?

For both Classic Controller Pro and Wii/Nunchuk?

I have the CCPro and am honestly not that impressed with it. It just fits awkardly in my hands.

Classic Controller Scheme 1
A (weapon sheathed) - Interact
Y (weapon sheathed) - Draw weapon
A & Y (weapon drawn)- Attack
B - Dodge
X (weapon sheathed) - Use item
X (weapon drawn) - Sheathe weapon
R (weapon drawn) - Block/Special
R (Weapon sheathed) - Sprint
+ - Depends on weapon
- - Menu
Left Analog - Move
D-pad & Right Analog - Camera
L (tap) - Center camera
L (hold) - Select item

Classic Controller Scheme 2
pretty much the same as above but with attacks moved to the right analog stick. Not entirely sure of Y and A's new functions.

Wiimote + Nunchuck
*shrugs* The button layout is all over the place and I haven't really bothered learning it.

Thanks man! You rock me ...hard :D

EDIT: Awesome to see they moved camera control to the right analog in CC1.
For CC2: Why would anyone wanna attack with said right analog though? ...weird

Anyone else care to post nunchuck controls? If not, maybe I can find them somewhere

ME!!!!!!!!!! CC2 is my favorite control method ever. Old hunters like PS2 controls.

Wiiremote controls here:
http://www.capcom.co.jp/monsterhunter/3/basic.html

Its in japanese, ask me if you need to clarify anything.

Given the rhythmic nature of attacks/combos, I guess right analog input sounds alright then.
Hell, I always use right analog for throttle in racers when I can.

Thanks again!

Hey guys I have been patient but I have to ask. Any rumors at all on the next portable version?

You have to understand I essentially live with my hunting party, so we were happy but not that excited by either the PS3 or the Wii version :lol It's a portable game for us.

We just purchased G/Unite at the US release date, so are nowhere near bored yet but curiosity is killing me.

Yeah, CC2 is probably the best scheme for Great Swords. Upwards slices are really annoying to pull off with the other schemes. And, since I have large hands, I can (reasonably comfortably) reach over to the D-pad with my right thumb for camera control :D.
Screw you claw!!!

CC1 is the best way to go for most of the other weapons, though.

CC2 is the best control for all weapons actually. Don't forgot that MH was originally built for CC2 control.

Nothing for now but its a sooner or later thing. Just be patient. Maybe after the release of MH3G.

Well I've only played the Demo so I don't know how LS and Lances are but Hammers at the very least are better with CC1. Though I can reach the d-pad comfortably enough, it's still not as ideal as right stick camera control.

Woo.. I just went today to some store around here, sold Mirror's Edge and the first Winning Eleven game for Wii (forgot the name, but the game was meh), and got enough money to buy MH3. I just started and it's my first time (I actually have MHG2 but didn't play it, the controls pissed me off! Thanks god I got the game for 1000 Yen).

Anyway, this game plays just much better than the PSP one!. And it seems to have much more stuff going on? Not sure, but it feels like that.

But yeah, even then.. this is my very first time I'm actually playing the game seriously. I'm still playing offline though I have a couple classmates that own the game as well and they told me we could play together. Is it possible to connect with friends and play online together, I guess.. right?.

Also, I'm still at the very beginning. I need to find a ピッケル (Ice Axe) that the village mayor told me was being sold in some store, but I can't find it!. After I find the axe, I need to get some iron ore. I found the damn ore itself, but I noticed I was lacking the axe so I had to go back to the village. I just saved and took a rest, so I'll go back in a while.

I think that's the very second mission/quest/whatever. The first one was to get 30 points/resources to the son of the mayor.

^
Yes you can connect online. There is a 20 days free trial too.

You can buy ピッケル from the lady at the left of the village.

Left of the village? I thought on the left there was only this guild thing and that's about it.

I will go and check again!.

Can I sell items there? I've got all those mushrooms and shit I don't think I'll need anytime soon and I would like me some moneys.

EDIT: Nevermind, found her.

Woo, finished my very first actual quest (though it was just getting some mushrooms) and got some nice equipment (which will probably be laughable if seen by anyone else, but for me it's some quality stuff :_)!!)

Just got done with all the first level guild quests and got to the second level. The single player is more fun than I expected!.

Anyway, someone around here still playing the game online? I'm still quite a newbie but soon I'll start playing online and I wouldn't mind some help from gaffers!.

New to the series, and don't know much about it outside of impressions and reviews, but what multiplayer options are available to those interested buyers not big on online gaming?

I just activated my free 20 days and I just got done with 4 quests (3 about killing some boss and 1 about collecting mushrooms, same as the ones available in single player).

I've been playing with totally random people and it's cool that you can chat and see their names and stuff (I mean, this is the Wii after all.. Nintendo seems to hate making friends online but Capcom really did a nice online mode).

I think there's something else besides doing the typical quests, but I'm not sure yet.

You mean like local multiplayer? There is a split screen mode but it only lets you play arena quests. If you really want to get the full MH multiplayer experience, you will have to go online. Still I've invested 75+ hours in the series so far and have yet to even try multiplayer at all. It' still a blast solo.

They is an online colosseum mode and an event quest mode. You can also create model statues online for display in both offline/online rooms.

Something just donned on me, how is Chacha's AI in MH3? I just got MHFU a few weeks ago and I have to say the felyne comrade AI leaves something to be desired. I swear Musashi is aiming for me when he throws those bombs.

The AI for Chacha is good in MH3. Not great but good.

That's nice to hear. Nothing quite like finally knocking over a White Monoblos after hacking at it's legs for 10 minutes, planing to use the opportunity to break it's horn, only to have your comrade sabotage it by throwing a small bomb at you (and completely missing the monster whilst he's at it). Hopefully nothing like that happens in MH3.

Yes it does happen in MH3 but it all depends on Cha cha's mood. If he is angry he will just go all out attack. Also there is one particular mask that.......

Oh wow, I didn't know that and I have even seen it yet. Where do you do that?

Also, what kind of model statues? Like, your character? Or you can use also monster statues and whatnot?

Its outside the online armory room. Just pass the items needed to the cat mending the booth.

Something like this:

I'm HR16 now, can't wait to get to HR18 to get access to the ☆☆☆ missions. I already cleared all the ☆☆ ones.
Playing online just feels so good!

Any other gaffer playing online? My nickname is Mik, rank 16 as I said. Feel free to add me!

MH -> MH3 comparisons
I'd say those are pretty decent upgrades.
You have to see them in motion, the difference between the 2 is great.

I kinda hope with FFXIII coming out in the US in March, Capcom decides to bump the US release up to February (note that I'm just assuming MH3 is currently coming out in March in the US as has been stated around the internet).

Basically any game released in March that's not FFXIII will be sent out to die. :lol

Still working my way through the thread but can anyone give a break down of how these Monster Hunter games play general?

Are you simply in a hub/city where you collect quest and just go out to an area to hunter a monster either by yourself or with others online?

Is there an actual storyline/rpg game at play here or simply the above? Is it comparable to how the Phantasy Star Online/Universe games were setup?

The game looks very interesting but haven't had time to really look into until now.

You pretty much described it perfectly :) There is not much story to speak of - you usually awake in a village that is under peril from monsters, and rise through the ranks taking down bigger and badder foes, proving your worth and gaining fame.

It is comparable to PSO (at least that's what I compared it to when I first started playing), in that you have a hub and branch out into different areas on quests. But the areas are open, not a set of corridors you have to traverse to get to a boss. There is (almost) always a boss, and it will travel (almost) anywhere in an area.

As for RPG elements, there is no leveling up per se, but your Hunter Rank (HR) does increase as you topple greater beasts. You upgrade your weapons and armour rather than your character. Tri works slightly different, in that online your HR and 'Renown' points seem to be a much bigger thing. Someone who has the game will be able to explain this better, but it sounds great :D

If you're at all interested, Tri will be an amazing iteration to begin the series with. However, if you find your curiosity gets the better of you and you have a PSP then pick up Unite. You won't regret it!

Thanks. That does sound great. Kind of wish there might be more of a story but oh well. In the past where there a certain number of bosses to hunt or did perhaps the game constantly generate them?

I remember playing the .Hack games and the setup sounded similar. Granted there was a story that progress from each game but you have hubs where you could get a limited number of story quest. Then you could travel to areas by combining keywords. Each time you did that you had a number of creatures to fight and there were dungeons that existed. Loot was random as were the creatures in side of it. The game tried to replicate the feeling of a MMORPG in that way. PSO was similar in that you could go down the different areas solo or with a team but it was more confined. .Hack had more open areas similar to how Tri seems to have.

Don't think this was posted but here's a video of someone playing the demo version of the game that came with Monster Hunter G on the Wii. Good quality as well.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6l0pKDOmNj4

The pacing of the game looks really nice. It was on easy but I could see how things could get harder if the difficulty was increased.
