Monster Hunter 3 Tri Official Site Updated

Thanks. That does sound great. Kind of wish there might be more of a story but oh well. In the past where there a certain number of bosses to hunt or did perhaps the game constantly generate them?
It depends on the mission. In the PSP versions, most major quests consist of seeking out one boss of an area and either capture or kill it depending on the requirements.

Some will have multiple beasts of the same type spawning one after the other (you capture/kill until you run out of time/supplies/get bored).

Others will have you kill a set number of beasts, either of the same ilk or different species. Either spawning one after the other, or all somewhere in the area at once (sometimes having both boss monsters in the same area with you can be an awesome challenge!)

I can't speak for any references to the .Hack games, but it sounds similar in some respects. Loot (or carves/rewards) in MH is always random, but you can occasionally boost your chances of getting rarer items.

The monsters haven't been random upto now (you want certain carves/materials, you go on a specific quest). However, Tri has an new 'endless' type mode where you spend a number of day/night cycles in an area, camping out and taking on anything you happen to come across.

Jesus, just writing about it gives me butterflies. Can't wait til it's released in Europe!

Don't think this was posted but here's a video of someone playing the demo version of the game that came with Monster Hunter G on the Wii. Good quality as well.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6l0pKDOmNj4

The pacing of the game looks really nice. It was on easy but I could see how things could get harder if the difficulty was increased.
Game's definitely not easy but you will get better the more you play. Kinda of like street fighter, fighting system is pretty deep.

Did this game end up living up to expectations? Is it still heavily played today in japan? too hard to tell, the jgaf crowd doesn't seem to talk about it much these days

Yes it did. One of the best game this gen and the finest title in the series. You guys waiting for the NA ver will be in for a ride. (For those who cant manage the camera on land, you can skip the game as the camera in the water is even worse. However, IT IS NOT BROKEN)

The number of people online had decreases maybe bout 20 - 30%~. Still pretty ok actually.

Well, from a sales perspetive, it doesn't appear to have quite the same legs as the portable versions did but at 0.95 million in Japan alone it's hardly a flop. I'm assuming some people are waiting to see if there's a G version or a portable release before jumping on board, but for the most part it's sales are pretty similar to the first PSP MH. Expect the next Wii release to sell better as the user-base expands.

As from a gameplay perspective, wait for Tenbatsu to respond :P. I've only played the demo so I couldn't really say if it's lives up to the hype or not.

Edit: :lol Tenbatsu beat me :P.

it's so much fun!

The environments are incredible, the new monsters are really well done. It's really the second game since the original that has been made from the ground up.

I imported it and played about 30 hours in and had a lot of fun. I put it down in anticipation of the stateside release.

The AI is a lot better too, the enemies will react to each other a lot more realistically. I had a blast, but I am already a huge MH fan.

I look forward to this game more than anything else in 2010 i think. Graphics are tight for wii..

Monster hunter is huge in japan.. but i've yet to try one. I think this'll be my first.

Just took a look at the Nintendo Power article about MH3 and I am so pumped for the US release. I love playing the JP version but it will be much nicer to know everything that is going on and be able to navigate without constantly bothering my jp friends for translations/help

Guess this entry is worth posting too lol:lol

Is there a post with all the entries? I had tons of issues with the submission process so Im wondering if it got in at all.

Those weapons are awesome. No way I would have been able to design anything near as cool as those. Guess it was a good thing I didn't bother waste my time on a serious attempt :P

Nah man. Winning contests should be a happy byproduct of you challenging yourself to make something that tests your current limits :)

In my case, I dont care if I didnt win, I got a nice portfolio piece out of it.

Yeah, but you're a far better artist then I :lol.

The wait for this game has been absolutely brutal. I got a Nintendo Wii JUST for this game (of course enjoying the games that come with a Wii) and march is forever away.

Thanks for keeping us updated Tenbatsu :)

Haha, it would be awesome if you could tickle a Diablos into submission!

Looking closer at the picture it seems to be more or a Kanchō sword to me... and trust me it does not tickle :lol

Really cool weapon designs too me thinks

Is it easier to get a Rathian Plate and other "rare" armor parts online than in offline mode?

I wasted several hours farming Rathian for a single Rathian Plate to complete the armor set today and ended up empty handed. I've captured her at least a dozen times and killed her about half of that as well as making sure to break all body parts and nothing. I'm playing offline at the moment as I wanted to finish the offline stuff before going online.

The rate is the same online except for high level quests. Also there are items where you can get online only.
Is Rathian Plate = 雌火竜の逆鱗? Sorry as I am not familiarize with NA names.

If yes, Offline/Online drop rates:
From tail: 3%
From tears: 1%
Reward: 2%

I think its been delay. Its not in Nintendo of America's Q1 lineup.
For some reason, my gut says May 2010 (For both NA and PAL). But yeah, Q1 release seems unlikely given that they still haven't finalised the Online infrastructure yet.

Yup that's the one, I had a similar problem trying to get one carve for gold Rathian armor in Unite. I'm gonna farm her a bit longer and see if I get lucky. I only want it due to high fire resistance and it looks cool as well(obviously).

New event quest up today, 水没林の大連続狩猟 - HR40~
You can get this pair of sunglasses from it.

well it makes sense that they (capcom) have gone past HR9... but if someone has got to 999... then I guess they need to make the requirements higher between the different ranks...

I am HR5 on psp version and 160 hours... now I just can see how if you scaled that up, how a HUMAN CAN DO THIS - 999!!!! :)

Found a nice clip of the offline village. Some might have come across it already but here it is again if that is the case. Looks pretty good. The uploader has some other clips from the Japanese version as well. I was wondering if you had your own area in the game to store stuff and this video answered that question. A full room. Might not be much but little things like that really bring a smile to my face. It was one of the huge things I enjoyed about Final Fantasy XI. I wish the village was a bit bigger but oh well. I just hope in the end this game does well outside of Japan.

I have to say I every time I watch videos of the this game the more I want to play it. Now there is still the chance I'll be disappointed but at the moment I'm very positive about the game. It in fact stopped me from updating Everquest 2 again and from signing up from WoW. I'm fare more interested in this then any normal MMORPG. I know this isn't a MMO but it's more what I'm looking for. Hunt things, talk to npcs, level up by myself. Then if I have the need I go online to play with others then offline I go. In fact it's sort of making want to pick up Demon Souls on the PS3 as well. It seems to have a similar setup but it looks like it might be more linear and maybe shorter then what MH3 might actually be.

Also one of the online village as well.

Is the combat in this game sorta like Demon's Souls? Are there stats or skill trees or spells? Is it just gear progression? I'm ok with that, all I need is progression of some sort.

I read earlier something about how the way swords slice through enemies had some purpose, and aren't just clipping through. Anyone care to explain that?

I haven't played Demon's Souls but this game has no custom skills and spells. So yeah, it's just gear progression and hunter rank (for getting better quests, fighting new monsters etc.).

Weapons hitting monsters are part-specific, so there's a difference in hitting the head, leg, neck, wing etc. But some monsters have really hard parts, so if you hit on a jaw of stone, your weapon will bounce (stopping your weapon combo and leaving you vulnerable for a short moment). After a while every melee weapon decreases in sharpness the longer you use it during battle, so in a lower sharpness (sharpness are color-based) you might even bounce on soft parts. You can sharpen it again with a whetstone. Don't worry, this is just during a quest and it's not something like durability, it resets all back to normal after the quest.

So if a sword goes through a monster, it's something to be happy about. The last thing anyone will say while playing this game is "omg, my weapon clipped through the monster!". Isn't that the point of slicing or piercing through an enemy...? (I know it's not you, I just forgot the name of the person who whined about clipping/animation)

The game has tons of custom skills (No spells though.)
But that's in the form of armors (armor skills) and maybe even felyne kitchen food (eating before battle gives a chance for felyne skills). But the character doesn't do any 'skill moves'. The so called skills on armors are more comparable to support stats in other games.

Demon's Souls is the closest game I can think of to Monster Hunter, but it's still very, very different. Pretty methodical and difficult, mostly non-linear although the game is broken into themed ecosystems rather than linear levels.

Entire game revolves around gathering, crafting and boss hunts. There is a shit ton of stat progression, gear progression, skill progression all layered onto a very in-depth combat system with lots to learn and master. Very much a hunting game with lots of items, traps, baits, etc. You swap a lot of equipment based on situation. No real spells, the game has a fairly grounded atmosphere (in it's own way), although there's plenty of elemental usage through weapon passives and gun shells.

Monsters are made of lots of totally different hitzones, breakable parts, etc. For example, you might encounter say... a Monoblos or Diablos that has a ridiculously strong head that attacks largely bounce off. Of course, that monster family also have breakable horns which have a chance at showing up in rewards post-mission to be used in crafting, so it might be worth it to you to target it for a spell anyway.

It all varries on the monster and the weapon and the sharpness level.

The weapons mostly tend to be very weighty and very deliberate. Kind of like the fare in Demon's Souls, just more expanded upon. The combat ultimately can have a lot of the same flow and feel, though. Which is good, considering DS and MH are as good as ARPG combat has ever been by a landslide.

Hey, I got a question. People say the CC is the best way to play this game but after looking more into it, do I still need to use an index claw to rotate the camera? If so, isn't the Wii remote + Nunchuck combo better? Even on the PSP I never bothered learning the claw because I only rotated during rolls and attacks and used centering most of the time.
