Monster Hunter 3 Tri Official Site Updated

Uhh, I prefer playing widescreen games in widescreen mode. You guys are being really weird about this whole resolution thing.
 
So, how does armor work in this game? I know you make your armor from stuff you gather/skin from the monsters, but what about weapons?

Another thing, do different weapons have different attacks/combos? Like, even weapons of the same type?

And how do stats work? What kind of stats do they have, and how are they "calculated?"

Finally, is there a place that has the classic controller controls mapped out for each weapon type like the demo comes with? Unfortunately the demo only came with a map for the Wiimote controls. : /

Seriously though, I'm too lazy to change my Wii settings so I just leave it in 16:9 mode. The blur isn't that bad.

Definitely disappointing no 480p in widescreen. That seems kind of lazy to me. They make a great product but don't bother making it 480p like most Wii games. Oh well, looks like I'll play full screen unfortunately.

normaly you have to reduce the sharpness settings to "very low" on your LCD TV to make Wii games look good(thanks to the non-existant AA). This time though, try to set the sharpness level higher. It should get rid a bit of the blur.

A couple of questions on the Online Mode, not sure if they were answered already in this huge thread:

1) Can we chat (text or WiiSpeak) with every person we'll meet online, even if we dont have their friend codes?

2) Can we join a game while people are already playing in the field (like in PSO) or we cannot join anymore if they are already in a quest?

3) Is there something like "guild cards" to find again good teammates that you played with before?

I really need to know these before buying the game, thanks a lot :)

You can go here to the official Capcom site for MH3. Just above Ironbeard's head will be a link to the "Demo Manual" pdf. The manual will show you the controls for each of the weapons in both CC1 and CC2 layouts. Know though that the file is about 39MB in size. Which is a pretty hefty download for a 13 page pdf...
 
The more I play this game the more I like it. I especially like that it's not so gear dependant like WoW is. I also like that you can challenge yourself.

I wish I could make suggestions to the developers, though. I'd pretty much reccomend...

1. Time rankings, sort of like Mario Kart's ghost mode. You can race yourself to see how fast you can take down a baddie.

2. Leaderboards for said ghost mode.

3. Achievements like MM9 had on the Wii. Hard ones, though. Like, "Beat this monster without being hit." It'd be cool if I could display them in game like medals of honor or something. :D

Also, a question. When you get gear and equipment offline, can you use it online when you decide to jump on the net? Or do you have to start a brand new character?

Better yet, beat the monster without getting hit to get special gear out of the monster. It doesn't really make sense but a little creativity and you can make it work.

hmm well i got my psp3000 and was surprised to learn they are only 150 bucks now :D. Most definitely a pleasant surprise that i wouldnt need to buy a used psp. So i picked that up and freedom unite. About to begin a massive marathon, but first anyone got any pointers for a first timer?

Go to the training school to learn how to use different weapons.

It didn't occur to me that the online guide would contain controls maps for the other styles, thank you for the heads-up. I never considered that classic 1 would use X+A for any attacks, so I've been playing hampered this whole time! :lol

I'll have to give it a test later tonight, and finally man up and face Qurupeco.

I've been perusing pawn shops today looking for a used one. Found one guy who had been selling used 3000's for $60! He obviously had no clue that they were worth more than that. Too bad he was out of them! Found another 3000 that was $90 but was OBVIOUSLY stolen, so I'm staying away from that mistake.

I may wind up taking your route and buying new. How do you like MHFU thus far?

im still very early on into it but the scope of this game is immense. I came from just playing the demo well over 20 times. But this is a different beast altogether, the crafting the equipment management, the dialogue. All of it is making for a more compelling game than the demo. So far its great and im getting adjusted to the lack of the second analogue stick nicely. Quick question for ps3 owners who have used the connectivity. What all can you do with the psp with ps3 beside the adhoc party. I had heard something about using the dualshock 3 as the actual controller? Any help would be appreciated :). Annnnd back into the game i go.

Is there some sort of reason given in the game world for why these hunts are given time limits? I just came from my first shot against Qurupeco in the Tri demo, and failed the mission because he spent a lot of the fight dicking around in the sky above my reach and running away. I know that time limits are shortened for the demo, but it still feels really disappointing to be engaging in an epic chase with a beast, spanning probably half the demo's map, and just suddenly lose for no real reason.

Oh well, I'm still enjoying my time, feeling relatively good with most of the weapons except the greatsword and heavy bowgun. And I know there's still a lot to the trial that I haven't experimented with yet.

I don't remember then trying to justify the time limits, but then again it's not like I was paying attention. Anyway, in the final game most quests will have 50 minute time limits, which is way more then enough for most of them.
 
50 minute time limits essentially are there solely to keep bad players from turtling their way through half the quests and getting screwed when they get to a real fight. If you're playing like you should, the time limit won't matter.

It feels like this is exactly what the Qurupeco is doing to me right now. Got him limping so he ran off, chased him down and engaged him again, and he ran off again. This happened about two or three times, and then I ran out of time before I could finish it. :\

There must be something I'm missing to take him out faster...
 
I hate to be the quintessential hunter.... so I won't. I'll quote Lord Grahf, a long time veteran in NA MH.

Learn the attack animations and watch your enemy. You really ought to just spend five minutes watching how a monster fights, and rolling to avoid its attacks before you even bother trying to kill it.

Step 1.) Don't get hit.

Once you've mastered step 1, add step 2.

Step 2.) Hit it until it dies.


Don't move on to step 2 until you can do step 1.

There's no trick (until you get to bombing, but bombing is just lame), there's nothing that makes it easier, there's just you and the monster and your weapon that separates you.

Forging weapon is the same as armor and they all have the same attacks/combos only different in stats and elements. They have stats like attack, defence and the resistance to the different elemental attack and are calculated according to what you are wearing. I wrote something about Protection stone in the previous page, maybe you can take a look.

1) Yes.
2) Yes you can add your friends online.
3) Yes you can search for them after you added them.

MH is really gear/skills dependant, the demo is not a good example.
1/2/3: The Japanese already set super records for MH3. I will share with you guys next time. (Kill a monster using only 'KICK'....)

Yes, offline/online share the same characters/gears.

Same reason as why fighting games have a time limit.
 
The time limit is almost always 50 minutes and it never really comes into play until you get to some of the dual monster quests. Even then, you'll be hard pressed to run into the time limit once you get to the point where you can play the game properly.
 
Dont worry about the time limit guys. 50 minutes is almost always enough unless your weapon is severly underpowered or you are being waaaay to defensive. In that case, you need to be willing to make stronger potions and use traps. Even the dual monster quests arent too bad as they monsters have less HP than their regular selves (at least in the previous games).

Well monsters do certain things at certain times in the mission and if you run out of time you fail the mission.

Fight more strategically? Are you taking advantage or the monster's nuances? If you attack a monster a certain way they react in a certain way as well.

I'm gonna stop talking now since I feel like I'm spouting off about a game I shouldn't since I'm a noob to the series. :/
 
Has Capcom confirmed whether or not you can bring over the same character you used in the single player to use in the multiplayer while keeping your current equipment ?

While I've always been more of a single player type of gamer, I definitely plan on playing a lot of it online as well.

Awesome :) Game preordered! Still, more than a month away to see the game here in Italy.

In the meantime i'm playing the MHFU PSP demo, i'm sad that they removed the Hunting Horn from MH3, i wanted to play with a "supporting teammates" equipment.

Is there a way to be more supportive to the team with items or weapons in MH3? (can we heal our teammates in any way?)

Well I'm perfectly willing to chalk some of my difficulties up to "I suck," at least for now. A mission like this would definitely be doable with a 50 minute limit, so I know this isn't damaging my opinion of the full game. With the small amount of spending money I have and Mario Galaxy 2 right around the corner of this, the demo might be the only way I have to get a monster-hunting fix for a while, so I'm sure I'll get it right eventually.

Bowguns can use a few types of support ammo and you can also use flutes for buffs, though those options are quite limited compared to hunting horns. Personally, though, I'm not particularly torn about the removal of HHs; they never really felt like they fitted in the MH universe.
 
So last night I finally beat the Jaggi! I actually beat him twice, once with each switchaxe. Now that I've tried every weapon (except for some of the different types of ammo for the bowguns) on him, I went on to try to fight the Qurupeco, but he's really hard so I don't think I'm going to bother. I've also gone around exploring a little more. Finding the sea monsters was cool. Also, I think it's cool that the BBQ spit thing is actually a mini-game instead of just an item. One thing I'm wondering, is why can't I combine anything? Have I just not found the right materials, or is there nothing to combine in the demo version? Anyway, while the demo was hard, it still increased my interest in getting the full game.

Well, demo missing items is totally expected, but you can still combine herbs and honey (IIRC) to make potions. Oh, and since we are talking about this, is it possible to create antidotes? *rathian* *sigh*
 
Couldn't wait for April 20th any longer. Bought a PSP 3000 w/ 1GB memory card from ebay for $107. I'm weak willed and impatient. *sigh*

This will come in handy for some of my work trips in the following weeks though...

BTW, found a Gamestop today that looked at me funny when I asked if you had to pre-order MH3 to get the demo from them (I was prepping for an argument TBH). "You do realize it's a free demo, don't you?", said the Gamestop manager...
 
Two questions about Quiripecco or whatever his name is.

I noticed that the front parts of his wings, and his legs have scales. I was wondering if this effects the damage you can do to him if you attack those areas.

Also, does attacking an area that is armored cause more damage to your weapon than normal?

Well, I hope the armor skill wide area is still in so I can instantly consume power seeds and armor seeds to buff myself and everyone else in the area or antidotes to save a dizzy poisoned teammate. Also, lifepowders (mega potions for the whole team in the area). SnS has always been the best overall team support weapon since it had the instant item use property.

Each monster parts react differently to different weapon/elements. For eg. Qurupecco's legs is weak to Ice element so using a ice weapon will dealt the most damage to that particular area.

Your weapon will get blunt faster if the attack bounce, I hope I remember this right.
 
Though, really, if you're attacking an area where your weapon bounces, you're kinda not doing it right.

Unless you're playing solo and in a crummy situation, I guess.

Not always true. Ive found that gravios is easiest to kill by hitting/bouncing off of his wings instead of going for his belly which his move set is built to protect. I play LS though, so i'm sure different weps will have different strategies.

It's more fun but it actually doesn't help. It's impossible to learn the monster's behavior with multiple people, whereas playing alone teaches you how to hit while not getting hit. Play a bit more :)

Prediction time: AniHawk will return within a few days time, being perfectly cool with all the things that newbies typically whine about, but instead complaining about how the level design was hindering his enjoyment.

Nah, just joshing. I kid because I love.
 
Multiplayer takes a lot of the heat off of the hunts because the Monster now has multiple targets to switch between, whereas before it will ONLY be coming at you full force. This is why the cat-buddy in Freedom Unite was so useful actually.
