Monster Hunter Freedom Unite Thread

Ok, so I caved in and bought this (was holding out for a PSN release, but whatever). Anyhoo, I'm still going through all the tutorials and I have a quick question:

What should I spend my money on that I'm making by doing the tutorials?

Incidentally, After using most of the weapons now, I really like the Blowgun, which really isn't a blowgun at all but just a gun. It's fun and I like how the shells fly towards your enemies. Second to that I really like the Gunblade. Not sure what I'll end up using for real when I'm through with the tutorials, but so far I'm really love the game a lot.
You mean bowgun. If you're just start I would not suggest the bowgun because it can be pretty expensive with all the ammo buying. I can't really comment on the Gunlance though, never used the weapon much.

Go with whatever weapon floats your boat. It's up to preference since all weapons have their uses, though certain weapons are certainly better suited against specific monsters, i.e. long range weapons against Diablos/Gravios. If you want to start off with melee weapons, Shield and Sword(SNS) is a good start since this weapon class has virtually no learning curve and has a shield to boot. Great Sword and Hammer are the two melee classes that dish out the most amount of damage, but of course, their learning curve are much steeper. It's also good to know that you'll need to have two sets of armor if you're going to use both melee and long range weapons, which are called Blademaster and Gunner.

I did it...I finally did it!

Nomar and I took down a G-rank one tonight ;)

G-rank? Wow I really need to start ranking up again. Also I really want to try some of those download quests. Been busy with the recent flood of download games though. Now that i've finally got past that pale roadblock, i'm ready to get back into things.

We are going to be on the same time tomorrow I believe, if you wanna do some runs with Nomar and I.

I want to get materials, definitely, but tomorrow night I'll be working. Tonight was one of my nights off. I just simply got up way too late. I want that Terra Ceanetaur hammer but farming him solo is sooo long and boring (40 minutes+). Also am trying to score one more Kirin Platinum Mane, but I just want to play, really. Have every other night off. I'll be up for anything next time.

I fucking died twice though. That is the price you pay being a gunner and being one shot killed.

Gonna try to get in some afternoon/evening sessions since I always end up staying up too late.
Maybe tomorrow afternoon.

I guessing that is G Rank material. Been gunning HR 6 Kirin, so I try to help ya sometimes if I can find the time.

Still a noob. Almost finished with the 2 star quests. What's the best way to beat a Bulldrome? Those things kick my ass every time.

Also, how do I play the quests I downloaded from comic-con? I can't find them anywhere.

Jump to the side when it rushes, and always attack it from the side :D

You run around it and attack it from the side, it has a slow turning animation.

Event quests are in the gathering Hall, challenge quests are in the training area (west of the gathering hall.

I just made a set with Guts skill, to prevent my gunner from being one-shotted. Haven't tried it out yet. You're supposed to be able to survive a single fatal hit by one hit point.

A hammer knocks them out (dizzy) very quickly. You can score lots of free hits when it's down.

Yeah, and I've been soloing him which takes way too long. Out of the last 3 I've fought, I only won two.
1st: Fought in the Tower with Ice Fang. Beat him with 5 minutes left.
2nd: Fought him with the garuga weapon, lots of bombs, and lost to time over >.<
3rd: Fought him in the swamp with the final Garuga S&S, Crow Blade, and won with like 6 minutes remaining. Swamp is nice, even with the minions, because you get lots of opportunity to rebuff (sharpen, etc) when he zones, unlike the Tower. I had 65-something% affinity on the Crow Blade when I walked in, and I got a goofy grin when my first 10 slashes were criticals. Still took a long time, but I'm most comfortable fighting him with S&S thanks to the training mission I've been abusing for expand pickaxes (record. 3:00).

If I remember correctly Elemental Weapons are actually ineffective on Kirin. I believe he doesn't have a true elemental weakness. Best bet is to hit him with pure raw damage.

Just wait till you try the G-rank two Kirins at once in the volcano arena. My fight went pretty much like this. <insert expletives repeatedly> <die 3 times>. <insert expletives repeatedly> <die 3 times>. <insert expletives repeatedly> <die 3 times>. <somehow actually win after using your last potion and having about 1/2 an inch of life left>. Kirin is pretty simple solo but two at once just plain sucks :lol

Yeah, Kirin has really high elemental resist, but that Ice Fang was the best S&S I had at the time. The Crow Blade final had some nice raw power and affinity so that's where I went.

If that double Kirin in the volcano is anything like last game, it's possible to aggro only one and fight them one at a time so long as you stay near the starting point.

What rank are you now Tekno? I'm HR4 (just need to do Shen Gaoren Urgent to get to 5) and its always a bit hard to find newish players to come with so it's not just some HR9 gods coming in and knocking the monster down in 2 blows :lol

I despise Kirins. "STOP THUNDER SPAMMING YOU ASSHOLES!"

finally got the full guardian spirit armor from the Yama Tsukami. It's sick, it has quick eater, AND ESP, and 1/2 paralysis time.

Not to mention the dragonwood sword is sweet. I can usually paralyze a wyvern 2 or 3 times over the course of a mission with it. (especially helpful for the Ukanlos!)

If I ever find the need to farm Kirin I will definitely give it a shot. I think the first time I fought them I forgot to buff up before I entered the arena so I was buffing at the entrance and they both came and gave me a good thrashing. Who knows, can anyone confirm?

I am thinking about making that armor for Fatalis and Gravios/Besarios. Been debating it but it does sound like a pretty good set! I think I have about 75% of all the mats already too!

Speaking of that LS, I used it with a couple friends on G-Rank Plesioth. Another buddy brought the Hunting Horn version so we shock trapped him once then basically chain stunned him. It was amazing and the most satisfying way to kill the Plesioth!

Next break, bring on the two Lavasioths, Hammer is ready and waiting!

Only HR 2 -_-

Been spending most of my time trying to beat Khezu Urgent quest on my own :lol Finally did it last night.

i'm finally moving over to Unite. HR5 if anyone wants to play -- i can do both adhoc party (preferred) and xlink.

PSN: dfyb
Xlink: dfyb

Fucks sake, its so stupid only one person can rank up from an urgent at a time. I just fucking did Shen Gaoren 3 fucking times only to have the bunch of fucking asshole bail on me when it was finally my Hunt post.

Bullshit.

i'd be up for playing. i can help with shen gaoren.

edit: kassatsu has a room up. come jump in BonusPoint

New to GAF and just getting back into MH..I haven't played since PS2 but having alot of fun with this game. I hope to play with you guys soon.

finally kassatsu helped me to set adhoc party and it worked fine, i will be playing when he makes a room, maybe some days i cant play but i will try to be there the most i can, my psn is snakeiox if anyone wanna add me =)

I'd love to, but it is 2am now. Maybe tomorrow. hnnnnngh. THAT FUCKING CRAB. *stomps off*

Hammer the shit out of him man, if you wanna rank up already. If you don't kill him it's highly likely that he'll run out of time anyway, just make sure to save your flinches for when he's about to attack. Gaoren is easily soloable, seriously. All the XL-size monsters are.

Wow, the game doesn't go easy on you does it? I finished all the training missions last night and was finally ready to set out into the world. Talked to the elder and got a 1 star quest to kill a gladrome, I believe. So, I'm not sure which weapon to pick, so I take the giant bone sword, the great sword I believe, not the one simply titled "bone".

Anyway, I set out.... and get my ass kicked in. The sword swings so slowly that I can't hit shit, the blue & white dinos just dodge my attacks easily then tear me a new ass. I made it out onto the snowy ridge area where I believe is the target gladrome I must kill, at least there's a bigger dino up there amongst the normal smaller ones. I get my butt kicked and die. I'm guessing it's all in the timing, but how in the heck does anyone hit anything with that huge sword? Especially the fast moving dinos.

So what weapon should I go with for a total newbie? Dual swords perhaps? I didn't have this problem in the tutorials hah.

With the bigger you have to, iirc, sheathed the sword and run up either behind to the side and when you unsheathed the sword it attacks at the same time. you can also block with R then attack or wait for the monster to attack and dodge/roll off tot he side then attack. Dual Swords and Sword+Shield are good for beginners but be careful with spamming the attack button(s) with dual swords the attack animation can make you vulnerable.

Beat Khezu finally! I was stunned by his yell and he was about to do the lunge attack when I hear "nyah-boom", my cat threw a bomb at it and got the killing blow :)

Dang, I never considered sheathing it and using the opening unsheathing attack repeatedly... hmm, thanks! I'll also definitely try out dual swords and the sword+shield.

Experiment, there are many ways to play each weapon. For GS on my first play through on MHF2, I used to unsheath/charge and unload. It was hard to time things right but it took a lot of practice. The hard hits was the only way I could beat Plesioth at the time.

yeah, the answer I would give is that you simply haven't learned the timing of the sword, and all the moves/timings/combos at your disposal. The great sword is incredibly slow, and the raptors are very fast, which is frustrating, but you can get to them if you can predict their patterns (turn turn, hop in their case)

the long sword is a bit faster than the great sword, especially when your combo bar fills up, and you unleash it.

sheathing and unsheathing is pretty integral to the game as a whole, as you can only do the invincible oh shit dive if you don't have your weapon out. attacking from a sheathed weapon is one of the fastest attacks for many melee weapons. Also, doing a a quick roll, then sheathing is generally faster than waiting for your guy to "ready" the weapon again from a standing position to sheath. good luck! you only just keep getting better at it!!

Alright everyone, snakeiox has been having trouble with ad-hoc party. Connects just fine, enters the lobby, but whenever we leave on an actual quest, about 10 seconds into the game it kicks him out.

Anyone know what could be causing this? Not sure if it happens to snake with less than 4 people.
