Monster Hunter Portable 3rd |OT| Rumble in the Hot Spring Jungle

I chose Pokemon, and you should have too.

Although in hindsight Toriko would have made a great crossover too. In one series you wear the monsters you hunt as a hat, in the other you bake them into delicious dishes.

Well i kinda assumed picking in capcom was ideal. Though i guess they had the gears of wars guys in lost planet 2 :/

ever since tvc ultimate allstars was announced, i wanted them to add rathalos as a giant character.

other than that, i suggested a phantasy star o/u/p crossover. or god eater. or lord of arcana.
they'd already set a cross company precedent with metal gear.

DMC would make a good crossover collaboration...for skins.
Blade master skin : Dante
Gunner skin : Lady
Rebellion : Long Sword
Sparda Sword : Switch Axe/Great Sword
Agni & Rudra : Dual Swords
Spiral : LBG
.etc

Can anyone help me to where to find and identify the 2nd to the last material for the yakumo (rare 6) switch axe?

Also the first two materials for the switchaxe (rare 6) with dragon element? Its the one with a pink ore, bone and the wyvern stone.

Some Capcom USA tidbit:

“All I can say is, the future for Monster Hunter fans in the west will be bright, but just as there was a sizeable gap between Freedom Unite and [Portable] 2nd, I think there’s going to be a little bit of a gap [following Monster Hunter Tri]. And exactly what form it takes, I can’t speak to — I have to unfortunately stay mum. But fear not, you guys have more goodness coming in the future.”

So... anyone still playing? I'm past the 200 hour mark (!) but I'm really only paying the DLC quests every week. I've only used the bow and long sword but I may move over to the hunting horn for something different.

I've stopped playing it, it was over way to quickly. I was only 150ish hours in and I had most the high end armour except for Alatreon and that's because there would be noone to use it on after him :(

It's the toned down difficulty I had the most problem with, monsters doing less damage while they have less health and then spend some of the fight eating and tripping over giving you chances to lvl3 charge them made the fights finish quickly.

Apart from the difficulty issues I loved the game, fixed hitboxes and new content I loved. Hopefully if 3rdG comes out they can tone the difficulty back up.

fuck amazing game, this. Shame Capcom USA are retards and didn't bring it over. It looks incredible in the PSP.

The cat thing from Unite is greatly expanded. The game has so much stuff in it, it's incredible. I like the subtle changes to the weapons, too. the interface is greatly impoved (thank you Based GOD) and I absolutely love the feudal Japan look of the village.

I can't wait for a game in this series with 360/PS3 graphics, though. Hopefully sooner, rather than later.

I'm getting ready to get back into this. I stopped around 75 hours/HR4, but the announcement of MHP3HD has me amped and eager to get hunting again. :)

Welp, picked it up again for my monthly hunting spree, finished up a set made up of ranguro and 'los stuff I was making last time and went questing.
Hammered down my 3rd Jinouga in 10 mins and my first Narga ever in 15. Amazing how much of an adrenaline rush this game can give you

Hanging onto the slim chance that Capcom USA will bring this over prevents me from just grabbing an import copy. ]:

They might just be waiting to publish Portable 3G? They need to find a way to include ad-hoc play into the western versions anyway.. it will never become popular enough without it.

Have a feeling the PS3 version will make it over. They probably just didn't want to venture into a PSP release as far as this game goes.

Just ordered a copy of the game. Are there any good website pages for translations of crafting materials needed for armor as well as armor abilities?

the combat in this game is unlike anything I've ever played, I don't know why it feels so satisfying, I've clocked over 300 hours in MHF2 and now almost 50 hours in MHP3 and I just don't get tired of fighting in the game. Is it the lack of hand holding, as in no lock-on? maybe. Is it the vicious enemy AI that possess the monsters in the game? could be. the relative simple movelist that places less emphasis on memorisation, and more on when to use a move? probably. I don't know what really makes it so good.

Anyone that has used a hammer on Rathian's head and made her dizzy knows what I'm talking about, is there something more satisfying than that in videogames?!?!?!? No, don't even bother because there isn't.

I'd like to think its a combination of the music, monster animations, and how everything feels like it has actual weight behind it.

he is easy, just annoying when he calls another monster for help.

there a lot of subtle changes in this game, mostly because of the stamina thing for monsters. they seem more likely to get out of traps quickly if they aren't tired. the range of flashbombs has been greatly reduced, too.

I suppose that is annoying, especially with lower HR equipment.

Weren't monsters in Tri also only capturable when they started limping/tired?

i think he means they stay in traps for shorter amounts of time when less fatigued.. monster are only cappable when limping/low HP in all versions AFAIK, but trappable for bombing or attacks etc. at any stage.

What a pushover Deviljho is in this game. Fuck that shit.

Yeah, he's not too tough in Portable 3rd, but you know what? I wouldn't worry about it. Capcom obviously wanted to lower the barrier for new players but didn't want to mess with the fundamentals of the game. I'm fine with them making the monster's HP less and making the monsters easier than adding something like lock-on which would really screw the game up.

Look at it this way, at least when the inevitable 3G comes, all of these monsters are going to be fuck tough to beat, and all will be right with the world. :)

Oh, right. I forgot about using traps for that purpose as I only used traps for capturing in my time with Tri lol.

Random question, but would anybody happen to have a Hi-res image of the Now Loading World map? I'd love to have it as a wallpaper.

So, I just started playing this.
*subscribes to thread*

Will we use the same thread for HD fun, btw? I mean, it's the same game, after all.

Any tips for breaking the crown of the Village 3* Barroth? That's how I assume I get the Barroth scalp carve. I'm going to try it with my bulldrome war hammer, and I might try to capture it should breaking its head prove too time consuming.

I don't know why but I really want the Barroth Gunner armor set, looks badass.

Edit: Fuck yeah, hammers rule.

So, I've been playing this since the PSN DL version came out (i.e. 3.5 weeks) and I've got 50hrs on the clock, just beaten Jinouga and am HR2. I'm 100% addicted to this game. It's so frigging amazing. Even though it has no story at all, it's system is so strong that it carries the game as much as you want.

And there is so much depth in everything - in the item distribution, in the upgrades of weapons, the skills you can give your felynes, and their levelling, the farm, the onsen/drinks. It's way beyond what I imagined. Previously I'd only ever played the first game, and got frustrated early on with the ridiculous egg quests and a steep curve for solo play. MHP3rd is so accessible for single players - heck, it's even required by the village quests.

I'm scared about how much time I'm going to sink into this game in the next few months, esp. with the HD version coming out on Thursday.

I'm bumping this as I just starting playing the HD version yesterday. As a long time MH fan its amazing to play it with such visual quality finally. After playing Tri so much...man. Tri is nice to look at but this is just so sharp. From the models to the environments, everything just bounces off the screen.

Can anyone recommend a good starting armor set and GS or Katana?

Also if anyone wants to nub it up send me a PSN invite. Or if we get a bunch of people who bought HD, we can coordinate something on ad-hoc party.

Oh and I named my cats Grimace and Cheeto.

Is it possible for PSP P3rd players to play with P3rd HD players on the PS3?

Just started getting into my PSP copy of P3rd and wouldn't mind doing some multiplayer hunting.

Never saw this quote back in February, but his wording makes me think he was referring to Tri G. I know they made that non-commital statement recently, but I think it makes sense that the sequel to the only Monster Hunter to really be successful in the West would get localized, if any. I hope so, anyway. Don't want to have to buy a Japanese 3DS this soon. Frickin' region-locking.

Would still love to play Portable 3rd with some of my English friends, though. But unless Capcom can work out those adhoc Party issues with Sony regarding the Western HD ver., or the rumor of a Vita release ends up being true, I think we're out of luck.

Yes, the versions are cross-compatible. By the way, there's already a Portable 3rd HD Ver. thread.

And even i am moderately surprised
Long time PS2 Mohan player and solo'ed a bit of MHP1 and Unite. Got back into MH with 3rd about 3-4 weeks ago playing a little with Jonnyram and a lot with the wife.

HR4 on the rank up quest. trying to solo it at the moment which is "hilarious" (PSP tossingly hard)

110 hours or so on the clock.

not sure why i dropped off MH so spectacularly given i dumped about 280 hours into the first one online.

Wasn't sure if I should post in there since I only have the non-HD PSP version. Do I need a PS3 to connect my PSP to to go online?

Yeah, to use adhoc Party you need to hook a PS3 up to a router via Ethernet and connect with your PSP. A bit of a clusterfuck, but it's better than nothing.

I asked in the P3rd HD thread, but I was wondering if there is still a good number of gaffers still playing P3rd online? I was thinking of getting a PS3 to go online in P3rd for the High Rank quests, but I'm not sure if people are still playing online.

I play online sometimes, just add me to PSN ( 'Wazzim' without the quotes).

Hello,

As the game is seemingly not coming out in US/EU anytime soon if at all, I wanted to import it on the PS3 (the HD Version).

Now I have a european PS3, and I know they come region free, but I still got a few questions.

1. Can I play it online with friends who imported it too? (I heard about Japanese PSN Ad-hoc party)

2. If I can play it online, how is the lag between people? Does it go through japan and add 300ms for every player, or is it more peer-to-peer and i can await a lag-free environment if we come from the same country/state ?

3. Are there monthly fees ?

4. Is it somehow possible to get the game in english or is it japanese only? And if it is japanese only, is there a good website to translate things so I can find my way through?

and lastly.... Anything else that I should be aware of?

Thanks Gaffers!
