PS5 Pro Graphical Modes:

- Ray Tracing Mode - 4K (rendering resolution 3072 x 1728) at 30 FPS

- Performance Mode - Upscaled 4K (rendering resolution 1920 x 1080) at 60 FPS

- Balanced Mode - Upscaled 4K with Ray Tracing (rendering resolution 1920 x 1404) at 40 FPS.

As detailed during today’s Capcom Spotlights, Monster Hunter Wilds PS5 Pro support will include PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), which will enhance the resolution via upscaling. Though Capcom hasn’t detailed whether the game will run at 120 FPS on the PS5 Pro, they confirmed that players can prioritize either performance or ray tracing in modes that will be part of the day one update.

Ray trace mode will include ray trace reflections, which you can compare in the side-by-side image above. This mode will be restricted to 4K (rending resolution 3072 x 1728) at 30 FPS, while the performance mode will allow the game to be played at 4K (rendering resolution 1920 x 1080) at 60 FPS. Video demonstrations of each mode are available below.

A third mode called “Balanced mode” will also be available for PS5 Pro players. This mode balances the two modes, allowing the game to run in 4K (rendering resolution 1920 x 1404) at 40 FPS.

It’s not a bad list of enhancements, and we’re glad that Capcom is offering an in-between mode that blends performance and resolution. Couple that with VRR, and balance mode might be the go-to mode.

I've never played a MH game in my life.

Are they that good and will Wilds be a good entry MH for myself?
Here's the baseline questions for anyone interested in MH.

Do you like the idea of a game that's built entirely around boss fights? And getting good at said boss fights?
Do you like the idea of grinding to upgrade your gear with actual changes that are both visual and tangible in order to fight progressively stronger bosses or farm old bosses faster?
Do you like to co-op with others and like the idea of doing the above with others?

If so then absolutely give it a whirl. Wilds is shaping up to be a fantastic entry and great jumping on point for newcomers. I will say that if you'd rather give an older (and cheaper) release a try then go with World or Rise but you'll miss out on the initial co-op of Wilds.

Noice.

Balanced-mode all the way.

Edit:

Although I might switch to Performance when playing on Portal.
Probably still going to be Balanced though.

Do you like to co-op with others and like the idea of doing the above with others? I don't usually play too much co-op games only a few exceptions in the likes of Returnal and maybe a few more.
I'll try it and see how it goes, EB Games Australia has a nice trade in deal and performance on the Pro seems to be good.

Good luck; have fun!

I'd also suggest, as a new player, giving a weapons video a watch to help you figure out what weapon to start with as they all play differently with different strengths/weaknesses and the wrong weapon (for you as none are bad) can be less fun to learn the game with.

Quick search shows Arekkz did one before the first beta. Which reminds me...there's another beta starting on the 6th which you should try.

60fps > everything else. I don't like this trend of 40fps. PS5 Pro was made to get rid of "Performance" or "Quality", yet here we are.
As long as 60fps exists.. devs will always push a quality mode at higher resolution. I really dont understand why people are so hung up on this. Modes arent going anywhere and im not sure thats what was even meant by cerny.
I believe they're simply trying to give you quality mode at 60fps and i think its achieved it for the most part.

It’s great to see another game get a 40fps mode. We’ve seen a few come through lately which is good. Over the last few months Black Myth Wukong received an update to its balanced mode which gave it a 40fps mode, Star Wars Outlaws had one, Alan Wake 2 got one on Pro, Avowed is coming with one and now this has one. Good stuff.

If you have a good group of friends to play with it is a lot of fun.

Sadly I don’t have too many friends online, but not a problem, there are plenty do people always willing to help.

I will try the betas and see if the franchise is for me or not.

Thanks for all the help.

is waiting for Starfield 7
It's just such a pity that they didn't add the pro features for the upcoming demo. Lots of my friends with the pro are undecided whether to pre-order the game on their pro on their aging 2080/3070/3080 cards.

Fantastic. And the bonus it has RT. 40fps at 4k with RT suffice. Pssr ml for ps5 pro is growing rapidly in just a few months. And base Ps5 also has good performance. I will buy this game for sure. This will be my priority in my purchase. This really give hope for gta6 to have good ps5 pro and even ps5 base performance.

make sure the pudding isn't too soggy but that just ruins everything
Yeah just get a good GAF crew going, I had fun with HD2 from some peeps here

I think the beta is sadly closed though
the betas are free, open to everyone, and all platforms are crossplay. however, these performance improvements are not in that old build. in fact, beta performance mode actually has a visual bug that makes it look fuckin horrid tbh. still the funnest thing i played last year. and confirmed fixed for final.

Good post. Balanced Mode is probably the way I'll go but honestly, I'd have been happy with MHW graphics at high res and 60fps.

I'm still finding the game looks.. I'm not sure exactly what... Duller, lower contrast, less sharp, harder to parse what's going on. I understand that sometimes it's an HDR output problem when recording and it probably doesn't help many of the fights we've seen have been in dark scenes with dark monsters and dark armoured hunters.

The beta didn't so very unlikely after they claimed performance improvements for the full release.
Good. The PC version actively encourages you to use frame generation and I also recall them stating consoles would use it too, so I was worried they were using it to generate 60fps from a base 40 or so.

It could still have its use for a 120fps mode on the Pro.

Looks pretty good to me. I wish they had a video for balanced mode though unless I missed it.

I'll run balanced if it feels smooth enough, and performance if not. I played through Horizon and Spiderman 2 in the 40fps mode and loved it.

With my shitty 3600 I got mostly low 50s in the taxing part of the benchmark. Would that still feel like 60fps with framegen and the 60fps cap?

Need to see more before I can call this a clear win for the Pro. Here is a comparison shot where the Pro Graphics mode looks lower res than base PS5 (see foreground vegetation by the water as well as foliage in the distance). They have sufficient input resolution to look better than native with PSSR. But that isn't seen here. Don't know. The ray tracing looks good, but are RT reflections even necessary in this game? Wish they had a similar comparison of performance mode so we can see the IQ boost without the RT overhead.
