Monster Hunter coming to consoles is the best thing that could happen to the series.
Crossing my fingers that its a massive or atleast good sized hit.

I love MH3U and MH4U but as games I like to play for more than an hour sometimes, I really need them on console or PC.

Handling the 3DS can get abit rough and circle pad pro can only do so much.

Did none of you play Lance in MH4U? You can consistently get a couple mounts out of the jumping charge attack.

(Granted it's still a distant second to the mounting power of the IG)

Reminds me of why I stopped playing in the first place. Got tired of shit like the Rathalos world tour and Diablos burrowing around all over the place for half the fight. It's not challenging, just an annoying waste of time.
I stopped at MHF2 because I played single player since nobody I knew played it and when I had to fight White Fatalis after almost killing him the time ran out... I have never been so mad at playing a game. MH:World is looking good and I'm glad they got rid of the segmented areas, I just want them to eliminate the time limits for missions and I'm back in!

Thought it was a knockoff when it was first shown... Looks really fucking generic, especially in regards to creature design. Not impressed.

Seriously, ya'll need to watch this version of the trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xe-RAeDfOMM The editing and new bits show that it is very much a traditional monster hunter game. It adds on 4th gen mechanics (jumping and landing off cliffs, mounting, climbing and more)

For those who think this is a side game its not. It is being developed by the main series team (MH 1, Dos, Tri, and 4). It is the first 5th gen game.
Sources: Famitsu: https://www.famitsu.com/news/201706/13135277.html
Interview: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W62j4xfq_yQ

The interview confirms it and my Japanese source has as well. Capcom's main MH website advertises it as the "Next Monster Hunter Game in the series". You can even look this up on the English version of the website, not even Generations was considered the "next" in the series. The fact that they are showing a simultaneous release for the first time as a feature just spells out main series release. That being said, feel free to verify.

Also, for those who don't know, there are only 2 monster hunter development teams creating games under the main series title. The "B" team creates MH Portable and X/XX series, and will likely continue making traditional MH games in this fashion for Nintendo consoles (this is a guess). The "Main" team has made the other, main numbered titles. This is considered a main game, and since the "B" team is focusing on XX Switch Ver. atm, the Main team is the only other dev team working on this. The Frontier and Online teams are totally separate from these two. There is no 5th team, this is basically Monster Hunter 5, created by the Main development team.

Last thing: Capcom CEO Ryuzo Tsujimoto doesn't personally come out for an interview to advertise his baby if it wasn't a main series game (check the youtube link).

I ask OP to potentially put this on the first post.

We now have our confirmation that this is basically Monster Hunter 5:
http://www.capcom-unity.com/dubindo...er-hunter-world-releasing-globally-early-2018

At the bottom of this article, it confirms that the directors of the game are Kaname Fujioka and Yuya Tokuda. Fujioka has been the director of the Main series games (1,2, Tri, and 4) since the beginning.

There you have it. Stop arguing about this being a spin off. It's not.

Well there it is. Nice to see Capcom is all in on this and not half assing it.

Shoulda never got hyped for XX. I was pretty sure after the 3DS game was announced with no G rank we would get the expansion. Dream dead, never trust in Capcom.

One thing I hope transfers from the recent MH games is having themed content at regular intervals. The Nintendo themed stuff was great but imagine PS and MS themed missions, weapons etc. Anyone hope they do this?

I just want them to eliminate the time limits for missions and I'm back in!

I think it mostly depends on whether missions are a thing in the first place. If World is truly open world, then hunts become like quests in other games: You take them and pursue them at your leisure. If that's their format, then time limits don't make sense.

On the other hand, if they retain traditional mission structure and time limits, I don't really see a Western audience jumping on board.

Flash bombs and sonic bombs...

What really irks me about the trailer is that it doesn't show any of the personality that a MH game has. None of the quirky animations or cartoonish style that I love the games for are present; even that bit at the end with the meat fell flat without the cooking music. I'm not a fan so far to say the least. All the changes just rub me the wrong way too, but thats my fault because I just wanted more of the same with better controls.

Tbh the mh "personality" didnt really start showing up until a few games down the line like MH Unite. And this looks like a MH1 reboot for the dreary west.

In any case, why would Sony be concerned about a supposedly western-oriented MH in the Japanese market (where the Switch being a threat would be relevant)?

The original rumour's point of Sony trying to block anyone doesn't make sense, they will naturally get the lion's share of worldwide sales of this game, because Xbox is only a real threat in NA, and even in Japan are still larger than the Switch, if the game were to come to it.

The game is supposed to be "Western-focused", but it's still a big Monster Hunter title developed by the A team and so far we're not seeing much that betrays the franchise. It will sell. It could approach a million on PS4 alone, and would do much more on the Switch.

Besides, the Switch would be a threat worldwide.

I only started with MH4U so I wouldn't know, but it's still taking a step back, even if it was meant as a reboot or whatever they're doing with this.

Shit, am I going to have to import MHXX and slog through wikis to understand the Japanese text... just to get my MH fix now? Capcom don't do this to your existing western MH fan base.

Also, before any of you tell me to just be happy with MH:W, spending significant amounts of time trying exploring and tracking monsters sounds tedious as hell to me. After playing hundreds and hundreds of hours of MH I just want to get straight to fighting monsters with as little down time as possible. Not to mention all those new sweet, sweet hunter arts and the new Brave style in MHXX that I'm missing out on :(

MH:World is looking good and I'm glad they got rid of the segmented areas, I just want them to eliminate the time limits for missions and I'm back in!

The 4chan rumor stated that the timer would be removed which would actually make the game less appealing to me personally. The timer is an element of MH that gives it a metagame around speedrunning, and is also why Capcom holds huge MH tournaments in Japan. RIP high-level play for MH:W if this is true.

It's not like they can't track the time still lol. The time limits were goofy as hell anyway. Speed runners aren't concerned with them.

I could of sworn I heard people complaining that the 3DS games were still full of reused assets.
Maybe they were wrong. Not that it matters.

The new stuff looks amazing now.

Lots of good people complain about shit they know nothing about. That's not a shock. Moreover I have to disagree that this looks amazing. I hate the new art style for the monsters. So muddy and generic

Also isn't this finally a Monster Hunter game where they aren't reusing ancient PS2 assets for monsters?

Not quite but the assets look a lot better than the ones made for a 240p game, naturally.

It's built from the ground up for consoles and it's pretty exciting ^_^

Aye, they need to show a flagship monster that can set the tone for this new art style they are using. Especially coming from generations and their 4 monsters which looked quite cool.

Tri redid a ton of assets and i believe P3rd did too.

Not sure if 4th gen redid any assets.

The boxart has Rathalos on it. That implies that this game doesn't have it's own flagship monster.

Any more footage out of this yet? Or more detals beyond whats in the OP? I'm thirsty for info.

Monster Hunter coming to consoles is the best thing that could happen to the series.

It started on consoles (ps2) and has had several console releases.

Rathalos is the flagship monster. MHW is clearly going back to its roots. It's like a remake of MH1.

If Capcom is smart, they will realize they can attract the Dark Souls audience in the west by keeping monhun combat true to form. I'm not too worried. Everything shown so far seems to point to classic monhun combat.

its a tropical setting. Ofcourse we'll see tropical animals. They will HDR the shit out of this game. Which begs the question: will we see a day cycle ? Or even better, dynamic weather ? WILL I'lLL BE ABLE TO FIGHT IN A THUNDERSTORM CAPCPOM?

Yes. Has been confirmed in the press release.

Nice cherry picking. Go show me something that looks anywhere near as cool as Brachidios, the new XX flagships, Zinogre, etc. The big new monster they showed was a fuzzy T. rex. Yes they have shiny new high poly models, but the art design is worlds behind.

To be fair the art design of the series has come a long way since first gen Monster Hunter.

We've only seen a few monsters bud. That wasn't cherry picking, that was showing the new art style vs old art style for same monster.

You just called someone out for cherry picking, then do the exact same thing.

You've barely seen any of the monsters in the game. Chill.

The monsters, the environment, the armor. All of that art looks markedly worse. That's not cherry picking. Is an opinion, sure, but I can be fairly sure in not liking the direction they're going with the visuals.

Rathalos looks like Rathalos. The frog looks like Royal Ludroth. The environment looks like a jungle. The armor (and GS) looks like the starter sets you get in every MH.

You are drawing ridiculous conclusions from this trailer.

I would wager the Dark Souls audience and the Monster Hunter audience already largely intersect.
