More outrage at depiction of rape in Game of Thrones television show (spoilers)

It's more about showing respect to 51% of the population by treating the subject with the gravity that Saving Private Ryan treated war. You're just making up the "tip-toe around the weight of the issue" part.

Are there any subjects GoT portrays in that manner? Look at how death, grief, and loss are handled, for example.

The series, nor the season is over yet. You don't know what purpose the rape served in the story at all.
Of course, but people are free to see Theon looking at it and determine where they think it's going. That's the coolest part of cultural critique: everyone gets to have an opinion!

Regardless, to a lot of people, GOT is the show where they rape the women, and in the case of Cersei last season, have to listen to the creators say it wasn't rape. It's valid that people would see it happen to Sansa and just be tired of this.

If the rule for portraying violence on film be that you treat it "with the gravity of Saving Private Ryan" then that is the death of violence in movies.

Someone's pretty rotten when a person says people who don't like this content are offended by everything.

Like, go ahead and say you're fine with it, but then you tell people their negative feelings about something like rape are invalid? You're a bastard.

I don't think so. GoT is lurid and exploitative and how it treats rape should be nothing like the way a serious Oscar contender treats rape.
My point was more about GameGuru using that as an example that's tied into talking about "tip-toeing around the weight of the issue" than saying it should directly treat the subjects the same.

Because Sansa immediately begs and pleads for Theon to help her?

And then he doesn't. He betrays her. My point is if the rape was supposed to spur Theon to help Sansa, that didn't happen.

Obviously, the arc isn't over yet, but it really doesn't seem like that's the direction they're going.
