Yes people, can't you see that they're New Yorkers? They're under much more stress than anyone else and they're clearly the most important (and loved) people on the entire planet.

NYC is the Robertsan of cities.

Quiet, you Fly-Over State Dweller, you! :)

Seriously, was there some "woman-spills-McDonald's-coffee-on-lap" brouhaha lawsuit that put this dumb ordinance into effect, or something?

It's a pretty silly law, but people are getting way bent out of shape about it. You can step off the train at any point and get a cup for 75 cents from some street vendor.. what's the big deal?

You need to understand something about NYC and us straphangers and commuters...

I live on Staten Island, and when I commute to the city, I take the ferry and then the subway up to my job. So when I am on the ferry, I usually get a large coffee and begin to drink it, then I walk down to the 1 train and get on and continue to drink my coffee and read the post. When I get to work I throw out my coffee and thats it. I am ready to go....

Now when this law goes into effect, and I am on the ferry and I get my large coffee and paper and I go down to the 1 train, I am going to have either throw my good coffee out to get on the train, or sit on the platform and watch several trains go by until I finish my coffee and I am allowed on. Thats the big deal, and thats why it is a stupid law.

I mean its ok for a homeless guy to shit on the train at 2am, or for a homeless acapella group to come through and put on a show for money, but I cant drink water or coffee.

F' THAT!!! :)

That throwing stick stunt of yours has boomeranged on us.

Or perhaps you could get a SMALL coffee?

Like other DC'ers have said, it's not a stupid rule. If your subway is still filthy after this rule is enforced then your city just sucks.

If you read the Post, these laws are the least of your problems :p

I used to have to commute an hour to get to work. I just adjusted my coffee intake schedule and waking up times a bit. Of course, I'd basically be injecting coffee when I got to work, but it wasn't a huge deal to me.

I don't think this point is up for debate.

Now I am not trying to validate the man, but why is everyone putting all the blame on Bloomberg? I mean the MTA has already said they are doing this in hopes of closing the budget gap they have, so if I had to blame anyone, I would blame the MTA.

:lol So they basically admitted this is nothing but a fucking cash grab. And people are applauding this bullshit? Jesus Christ...and you wonder why shit like the Patriot Act gets passed. People just love to bend over.

A great way to start closing the budget gap would be to reduce the salaries of the stuffed shirts at the top, who apparently can't manage their way out of a paper bag.

Indeed...but pigs will sprout wings and become eagles before something sensible like that occurs.
