Most Boring Game You've Played/Completed Recently

newest Tomb Raider. it was the definition of generic to me.

This. It was pretty, and traversing the world was fun despite the fact you're confined to a linear track most of the game. Instead of playing to its strengths and the things that make Tomb Raider great, however, it turns into a Gears clone with inferior gunplay. This all unfolds through a story and characters that make Sci-Fi original movies look like Wes Anderson classics. About half way through I stopped and never could muster enough self hatred to continue.

Far Cry 4. I was hoping that beautiful setting and somewhat interesting characters will help me to overcome my dislike of the usual Ubisoft routine. I was wrong.

The Last Of Us

The story was boring(generic) and too realistic with no exposition. The characters were unlikeable and the gameplay isn't anything special. It was mostly forgettable and when the game ended I expected a lot more.

Rogue Legacy

That grind you have to endure in that game is just virtually unbearable and it's unfortunate because the mechanics are tight and there's fun to be had

But the fact that i can have a run that last 10+ minutes but effectively prove meaningless because i didn't beat a boss or i don't have enough money to feed into the upgrades/items that increases in cost at an exponential rate makes the game feel like a real chore

The Last of Us.

EVERY single one of these games I have tried...I really do..but I cant get past the C grade Hollywood writing and a general feeling of boredom. Everything is boring from the characters, the combat to the auto-parkour, to even the art direction. I was quite Impressed with the third game actually. The opening of the game was spectacular. But this title in particular (Black Flag) felt clunky and uninteresting right from the start.
I'm working my way through this too. It sucks as a game but I'm enjoying the piratey vibe. Even after all these years of Ubi Montreal games I still can't comprehend how something so incredibly boring can be packed with so much content. Or should I say "content".

Professor Layton 5, I guess? I don't think it translated well to the 3DS, as well as many other issues (wtf was that dungeon-puzzle thing? And the framerate in that?). I felt very disappointed, specially regarding its story.

Valkyria Chronicles.

I like some anime shows and I like turn based tactics so I thought this would be nice but so far is pretty "meh", I still think I can finish it though.

Persona Q. The story is practically non-existent; 99% of it is just pointless banter between the characters. The gameplay consists of spamming Mahama and Mamudo because damn near every enemy is weak to one or the other. Mapping out the dungeons is fun and all, but even that's a little annoying because you have to step on every tile for it to count towards the percentage. The music's good, though.

I'm a little over 20 hours in and the game isn't bad so far, it's just boring. I'll probably drop it and play Monster Hunter 4 instead.

I am sorry but you have a really shitty opinion. This is all my opinion of course.

Yeah, way to engage the conversation. I explained my problems with the game. Its a shallow gameplay experience and terribly written. If you enjoy it, good for you. I wish i could enjoy it, but i didn't. And it looks like several other people did not enjoy the game either. Maybe next time when you propose a rebuttal, use a smidgen of tact, intelligence, and respect before coming off like a fool.

The Last of Us.

Yeah, this is my pick too. I found the gameplay to be incredibly repetitive and dull, especially those environmental puzzles where you had to find the plank/ladder/pallet/dumpster to progress. They were so simplistic they were insulting.

Crap, I just beat Far Cry last month and was pumped for 4, I sure hope what you've mentioned will still make my playthrough worthwhile.
Far Cry 4 is definitely still worth playing, just don't bother being obsessive compulsive about the absolute insane amount of collectable shit the game has.

The Last Of Us

I sort of agree with you, but this opinion won't fly around these parts.

I was definitely glad to be done that game. I found it incredibly over hyped. All though I wouldn't put it in the boring/shitty category.

A shitty opinion with a shitty attitude to boot!

I'm in the "The Last of Us" camp.

I'm jealous of people who love that game; or any game I didn't enjoy. But it's just not for me.

Yep. The gameplay was so simple and it got so repetitive that I felt like a joke was being played on me. Didn't realize the actual joke was the awful story.

Dragon Age: Inquisition, definitely.

I feel obligated to complete it because I've meticulously explored both DAO and DA2 and their respective expansions/DLCs. But Jesus Christ, Inquisition is boring as FUCK. These quests are lame, janky-skyrim-jumping around rocks sucks shit, and about five hours in, there isn't really any kind of story to speak of.

because i called out a guy for being a douche? yeah, ok.

EDIT:

I sort of agree with you, but this opinion won't fly around these parts.

Yeah i kinda noticed that. god forbid someone expresses their opinion on a game they tried their best to enjoy . Especially in a thread that specifically asks people's opinions on what the most boring game they played recently.

The Last Of Us.

It's well acted and looks good but that's about all I can say about it. The moment to moment gameplay is the most boring, derivative, bland stuff in a video game. Please stop putting pseudo stealth into a game that is not stealth. I'm trying to keep this short but the fact that Ellie has no impact on enemies is also complete nonsense. The story is not good, it's only good if you've never seen a story that doesn't end happily ever after. Ellie and Joel are not interesting characters and I don't care about either of them. And you can't make me care about them even if you through every cliche tragic event at them. I try not to think about this game because it's depressing that this is what people think is one of the best games ever.

Dark Souls

I really wish that after 12 years since Ocarina of Time was released we'd have more interesting combat. But the entire game is broken down into circlestrafing, taking a swing, and rolling. If you have any reflexes at all then you will never be hit because the enemies and combat is so simplistic it lacks any difficulty. There are no DMC or Bayonetta combos, there are no skill trees, or decisions, or anything. There is nothing going on with the combat. And that is the game's only draw. There is no story; lore isn't story and I refuse to accept that. The graphics/design and music are fine although moody grim dark fantasy is an overplayed style. And the UI is bad as well but 90% of games have a bad UI.
And every time I hear some say "dark souls like" or "dark soulsian", or any time I see a thread entitled best story, best combat, best music, or anything else I can be sure that Dark Souls will be mentioned. It is the worst. I hate this game.

I hate popular video games. But not because their popular.

Last of Us and Dragon Age Inquisition...

Don't get me wrong I enjoyed parts of each game, but for the most part I was not impressed with the hype they received.

Watch Dogs and Unity.

Both were repetitive, boring and bland. Both games, as per Ubisoft, are cluttered with meaningless sidequests. I put both of them away when I was about halfway through the story.

TLoU, well, I loved it on Ps3 but on Ps4 I noticed that the game just isn't all that fun to play. The shooting did never gel with me and pushing Ellie through the water became laughable. Its a good ride for first timers but for me its one that falls short during a second run.

Divinity: Original Sin

Boring story, characters & settings/environments. Gameplay wasn't all that great either.

Interesting. First time I've heard anything negative about this game. I'm waiting for a major sale because I'm not so sure myself (and I have plenty to play anyway).

The Last of Us and Infamous Second Son. The gameplay and story of both just weren't engaging to me. Flashy graphical shells with mediocre insides.

Assassin's Creed Unity

I've played every game in the AC series and actually enjoyed them, but this one finally just about broke me. The combat in Unity is completely awful. I know people complained about the combat in previous AC games being too easy, but at least it was fun mowing people down one after the other. Also I don't know what they did but they actually managed to make the freerunning feel like you're slogging through quicksand. It's so sluggish and counter-intuitive that you'll be trying to run away from guards and get stuck on a ledge for 10 seconds and lose half your health. In trying to make he parkour and combat better, Ubisoft managed to fundamentally make both of them worse than ever before.

Unity is probably my least favorite in the series. I even liked AC3 more than this one. I will say that Paris is beautifully realized and the biggest draw for AC games for me has always been the historical settings. However, Ubisoft needs to do alot to convince me to buy one of their AC games in the future, because this one really soured me on the franchise.

Darksiders was pretty tedious. It wasn't bad, per se. There was just too much of it... or something... I'm still looking forward to the second one however.

I'm also in the middle of FFVII, and it's putting me to sleep. I haven't done well with this style of game for a few years now.

Wait, are you talking about the first Darksiders or the second one? Because the first is definitely not a game one would say is filled with too much stuff. The second one however...

Dragon Age or Shadow of Mordor, they both had very simple combat systems. I did however find the Dragon Age story more interesting.

You would think that 4 guys, some booz, a 4m diagnal screen, 4 gamepads and a brawler would make some fun times - no, if the brawler is called Brawlhalla.

We had just finished an awesome run of speedfunners and this just killed the whole mood. People were like WTF IS THIS? WHY? Where did the good game go.

...in fairness, its still early access but...

Transistor so far, but I'm still trying to give it a chance... so far I like Apotheon a lot more.

Another would be The Binding of Isaac which sucks because I love the tone and design of the game but something about it just doesn't click with me and I get super bored.

Torchlight II, I should be happy because it reminds me of Diablo but at the same time I dunno I just can't get into this game and I've tried a million times but it just doesn't feel right to me or something.

I keep going back and forth on DA:I right now, sometimes I find myself really enjoying the game but then I find myself hating other aspects of it or just flat out feeling bored in the beautiful worlds that Bioware crafted in the Frostbite engine. I'm 80 hours in and I've barely done much and I recently just unlocked a lot of the starting areas and Orlais. A lot of the content seems to just kind of be tickbox checking MMO style quests with hardly any fluff and a lot of the interesting stuff is either relegated to Codex entries or chatting with your party.

Destiny I guess?
I finished the Story and made it up to LV 29, if that counts.

It wasn't as bad as some people say, at least until around LV 26. Then the grinding just became too much. Leveling up became boring, getting new weapons became boring, upgrading those weapons became boring and the lack of matchmaking became boring. And then came the expantion, which I didn't buy, and it wouldn't even allow me to play the weekly/daliy challenges every time

I still play it every now and then because, unlike a lot of people, the one part I truly loved about the game was PVP which is overall just a lot of fun.
I'd actually pay for a cheaper "Crucible expantion pack" that jus includes the new crucible maps and allows you to buy a "PVP only" version of all the new weapons and gear with crucible marks

Just play the story. Seriously, you're not missing anything by skipping the optional stuff in DA:I.

Apotheon

That's the most recent thing I've played, put like 10 minutes of my time into, and shut it off because it wasn't interesting

I've been going through Dead Space 3 recently and holy hell this game is boring. I can't stand how it feels like there is an ambush/random onslaught of enemies every other room, I can almost predict the "surprise" now. Theres some decent tense moments akin to the first 2 games, but they are just so few so far

The drop off in quality between Dead Space 2 and 3 is astonishing. DS3 was indeed snoozeriffic.

I guess Dragon Age: Inquisition is the most boring game I've completed in a long time.

I had enough fun to complete it, and it's a good game, but the moments of awesomeness seemed liked tentpoles in these long stretches of dullness and busywork.

The Last Of Us.

How is it not stealth? If you don't sneak around, you won't last long.

I'm trying to keep this short but the fact that Ellie has no impact on enemies is also complete nonsense. The story is not good, it's only good if you've never seen a story that doesn't end happily ever after.

I have never seen a game that makes you
choose to damn the human race and makes you feel that it's the right decision to do so.

Ellie and Joel are not interesting characters and I don't care about either of them. And you can't make me care about them even if you through every cliche tragic event at them. I try not to think about this game because it's depressing that this is what people think is one of the best games ever.

Joel doesn't have to be interesting because you are Joel. You're not watching a movie. You're playing a game as a character, seeing the world as he sees it, and experiencing what he experiences. You care about Ellie because she's like your daughter.
