Most Boring Game You've Played/Completed Recently

Anyways, my vote goes to Shadow Of Mordor. Great gameplay, great graphics, interesting nemesis mode, but man that story is so dull and the main character w/e his name was is even more boring.

His name was Talion, and yes, he is one of the dullest protagonists AAA gaming has seen in years and years.

Talion also, somehow, won an Outstanding Achievement in Character award at the 2015 D.I.C.E Awards, so loooooooooool

The only award I would give it is the "Outstanding Achievement in Wasting Troy Baker's Talent" award.

Pokemon Alpha Sapphire, I played the OG version 5 times across Ruby and Sapphire so I pretty much knew the game by heart. I was also astonished at how easy they made it, I rushed through the game if basically 2 main Pokemon.

I always feel like I'm in some bad dream when I come into these threads.

Anyway, after finishing Pokemon X, I played Yellow, and wow, that really did feel like a slog. I enjoyed it, and I know this is hyperbole, but it seemed like some areas had 30 trainers, and after a while, I just wanted it to end. I did spend extra time in the postgame capturing all the legendaries, though.

I completed the National and my first Living Pokedex in ORAS... 150+ hours, and I enjoyed every minute, which is weird to say since I almost never put that much time into a game. Last one I did that was with DQ9.

InFamous Second Son.

''Hey guys we got this graphically amazing game, but we totally forgot to make it fun for longer than 1 hour''

I thought the gameplay was fun, if rather routine and thoughtless. My real problem was with the lame, rushed story that never goes anywhere and the unskippable cutscenes that present it to you. Most of the story missions come down to just finding Core Relays, as well.

And every character in that game could get thrown out a 20-story window and I wouldn't even care, Delsin is only saved by Troy Baker.

EVERY single one of these games I have tried...I really do..but I cant get past the C grade Hollywood writing and a general feeling of boredom. Everything is boring from the characters, the combat to the auto-parkour, to even the art direction. I was quite Impressed with the third game actually. The opening of the game was spectacular. But this title in particular (Black Flag) felt clunky and uninteresting right from the start.

Rogue Legacy

The internet definitely overhyped this one.

Real talk. I deleted it after about 10 minutes. I just don't understand the appeal. I heard comparisions to Dark Souls but that's just laughable. Just because a game is hard doesn't make it Souls-like. In DS it always felt like even if I was dying, I was learning the map, learning the enemies placements and patterns, and getting better every time. RL felt more like "lol we just threw you in a room with 50 enemies for a laugh, enjoy"

Also a shout out to Life is Strange. Couldn't even finish the first chapter. Bad acting, cliché writing, no gameplay, just shite.

It's more like a cartoony, simplistic Symphony of the Night with some streamlined Roguelike aspects. I don't know why anyone said it was like Dark Souls.

Shadow of Mordor. It was fun for a couple of hours but I grew tired of the combat and there's really little else that's fun outside of that. It felt pretty repetitive and the nemesis system didn't really do anything for me.

Costume Quest 2. I was so hyped too. No charm from the original. No sense of pacing or direction.

Dying Light. The game just went on too long. Do not do the side quests if you don't wanna get burned out on that game.

I'm going to have to add my voice to Dragon Age: I. I went in with pretty high hopes but it just had nothing to grab me with.

Also this, it did grab me at the start though, I did everything in the Hinterlands... that was a mistake. The freedom to do pretty much whatever is awesome, but there's something to be said for a concise directed narrative that pushes you through the actual story of the game. Getting lost in a world is not something that appeals to me so much at this point in my life, because things like this happen. I did too much filler because, it is actually fun and interesting, but then it's like... well I just spent 20 hours doing side content instead of actually playing the story... now I'm not as invested in the main plot, characters or world. I've gone so far down this side-quest rabbit hole my interest has been so distracted from the over-arching story that I have unwittingly lost interest in it.

And also when you realize combat is all about managing cooldowns and literally nothing else...

nothing stands out recently ...but over the last few years, i would say the most boring i've played was LA Noire and Darksiders 2.

The Evil Within. I didn't complete it because I got bored with the gameplay and story.

Yep. Gave up in Chapter 3 yesterday. Listed it for cheap on Amazon and shipped it on out.

Notably, I fired up Resident Evil 4 for a few minutes last night and that game's still pretty good. :D

Pokemon, easily.

Put two pokemon to breed. Get egg. Run in circles with your bicycle, get more eggs, hatch eggs. Repeat ad nauseam.

Either that or: save. Enter battle, see if the pokemon is shiny. If not, soft reset and try again.

Most boring shit that I've done in the past months, but I still do it.

Agreed on all fronts, Really thought i would be immersed into DAI after all the talk of it being the best of both DA0/DA2.

But the constant grind of close this rift, Find this landmark, read this book etc just became so tedious that i just didnt wanna waste anymore time on it as i dont get to game that much as pretty much work all week.

Didnt think i would say it, But i cant wait for a linear corridor experience again with The Order.

Far Cry 4 is Far Cry 3.5, but that .5 makes up for a hell of a lot of the problems that I had with 3. Pound for pound, FC4 is a substantially better game, it's just not original or unique (but neither was Far Cry 3).

The gameplay improvements 4 brings makes it a far less tedious experience than 3 was. Reduced fall damage, the personal helicopter, and the wingsuit all contribute greatly towards making FC4 less frustrating and tiresome.

Also, Far Cry 3 doesn't have a sidearm Grenade Launcher, which alone makes it far worse than 4.

Kyrat's mountainous region is also more interesting to explore than another repurposed tropical island setting that had already been done in Far Cry 1 and Crysis.

All Far Cry games have horrendous plots and characterization and, unfortunately, 4 was no exception. Pagan Min is, perhaps, even more wasted potential than Vaas was, if that was possible.
Yeah, I wish I hadn't just played Far Cry 3 last spring. FC4 is absolutely the better game, it's just that too much of the content is just too similar to FC3 that I got burned out on it a lot sooner in FC4. If someone hasn't played either of them, I'd just tell them to skip 3 and play 4.

I guess The Vanishing of Ethan Carter is the last game I finished that I found a bit boring at times. Honestly, it was a solid game overall (and visually beautiful, too) but it dragged at times. The story wasn't all that compelling and the game didn't have enough "game" in it. Fortunately, the game's only 4-5 hours long.

Games that I find extremely boring (which isn't often)...I give up on them quick. Last one was probably Turok for X360 a few years ago.

Tomb Raider 2013
I've already talked way too much about this game so I won't even bother. I just found it boring and full of handholding, stupid AI, useless "RPG" mechanics in the form of weapon and skill upgrades, overuse of explosive barrels and easy as fuck kills with the bow and arrow (people felt great when scoring those headshots on enemies who loved sticking their heads out, that's the low point we've reached.

Assassin's Creed 3
ALMOST EVERYTHING about this game is boring. From the character to the actual story, the gameplay, the lack of parkour, the hunting, the main missions and naval battles (which were improved in AC4). The only thing I can say was fun in AC3 was Haytham Kenway, a character who's sadly been managed poorly by Ubisoft.

Assassin's Creed 4 main mission.
I found myself messing around in the sea way more often than doing actual side and main missions.

Edit: People mentioning The Last of Us. Yeah, the first 2 hours are probably dull but once you meet Bill it picks up and becomes the great game it is highly acclaimed for. I just finished my 6th playthrough yesterday (Grounded Plus) and I can say with confidence I'll never get tired of it. Boring and uninspiring gameplay? I bet you haven't even bothered to learn the different properties of weapons, bottles and bricks and other stuff. It's a brutal game with amazing gameplay, the story is not all there is to it.

Transistor. I almost felt guilty for not enjoying it more than I did because it does a lot of things really well but it just never came together like it should. I was probably 60-75% of the way through before I felt like I had a good handle of the combat and the function combinations and by then I was just plowing through to get to the end so I didn't have to listen to any more of that mopey dialogue from the sword.

Recently: Diablo 3. It's a terrible game compared to Diablo 2 and even worse when compared to Diablo 1. Nothing about it is even remotely fun with the "scaled" difficulty. It's not challenging even on the highest of difficulties. Everything about it is mediocre outside of the cinematics and the final boss of the expansion.

Ever: Fable Lost Legends. I don't think i've played a larger pile of crap in my entire life. Doesn't deserve to be in existence.

Yeah I found Transistor to be super boring. I liked the OST and art, but that's really about it.

Any Bethesda game.

I've tried all of them and I just can't get into them. This includes Oblivion, Skyrim, Fallout 3, and Fallout New Vegas. I pushed my way through Fallout but I just can't do it. I really want to like them too.

Assassin's Creed: Unity.

They managed to make the combat even more boring, despite being more challenging. And it's just more of the same old, but better looking. I only managed to get past the prologue before I turned it off and deleted it from my HDD.

Yawn.

This. Assassin's Creed Unity was boring as shit and I couldn't even play an hour past the prologue. I just think I'm burnt the fuck out on AC games right now, which is weird after putting a ton of hours into AC 4 Black Flag. I'm just going to take a long break from AC games for the time being :/.

Crap, I just beat Far Cry last month and was pumped for 4, I sure hope what you've mentioned will still make my playthrough worthwhile.

The Witcher 1....holy fuck. Had to take redbull to finish the game. I played the game because the Witcher 3 trailer was so amazing. After playing Witcher 1 my hype went down and now i know how slow the game is

Far Cry 4 and Dragon Age: Inquisition

The one-two punch of tedious open world games. Don't know either why I finished both (long) games.
