Most Boring Game You've Played/Completed Recently

I'm sorry GAF, I also got bored of TLOU... but that doesn't mean it's my answer to the thread, as that game I didn't play recently.

What I did play recently was Rome 2: Total War Emperor's Edition, as I was secretly hoping they'd fixed most of the issues the launch of the game had. After two hours of snoozefest battles I just couldn't keep playing anymore. I really don't know why I don't like it anymore, used to be such a big supporter of the old Total War games.

Xenoblade Chronicles. I love a lot about the game, but I can't bring myself to finish it. I get so bored with the combat, I'm really hoping XCX does something to make it more interesting. I'm still gonna buy it day 1 tho.

I think boring games are worse then bad ones. If I'm spending my time and money on entertainment it better make an impressiom.
I get that, but does it have to be fun to leave an impression? There are tons of TLOU references here (myself included, I didn't like it), but it's strength wasn't in the fun factor, it was in the story and presentation.

Thinking more about it.... screw it, I'll just join the trend of using this threads to say I didn't like a popular game:

Super Smash Bros WiiU:

Single player content is boring and online works like absolute shit for me. Lan adapters cost like $30 here and, honestly, I refuse to buy a lan adapter for a 2014 console game to work online. I'm playing battlefield 4 with 63 other people using Wifi and it works decently, I shouldn't need a Lan adapter for a 4 player brawler to run with less than 5 seconds of input lag.
Had more fun with Injustice. At least that one has a Story mode and the online, while not lag free, is at least playable.
Local fights are still fun but honestly, the 1 time in the month we get together to play smash didn't make the purchase worth it (plus everyone already owns it so it's not like we all need to have a copy)

Another vote for Transistor. Love the artstyle, but after the first hour I couldn't see myself playing it again, it was no fun at all. Pretty big disappointment since I loved Bastion.

Yeah I don't get why Sakurai can't figure out online. Must have to do with the complicated inputs. But, like, Street Fighter works good on a wi-fi PS3, right? Mario Kart 8 works fine too.

What's the deal

I'd say Far Cry 4. I haven't even gone past 3 hours into the game can feel the derivative kind of open world feeling. Unlocking towers, collect meaningless items, getting attacked by wild animals everywhere every few minutes etc. Story wise,it's basically choosing between the two questionable characters to the point where popping a bullet in their heads would be morally justified.

Doesn't help that the FOV is terrible and makes in really hard for me to get back into the game. the item menus etc are pretty good and there's a decent amount of ways to tackle a problem which at least elevates it from being completely boring to me.

For me one of TLoU's core strengths was definitely in its fun factor, or more importantly it's combat and encounter design. A good story and presentation can only carry you so far, however the gameplay for me was definitely Last of Us's strongest suit. Not since RE4 have I enjoyed gunplay in a TPS as much, and I actually felt LoU had the better variety too, with more rewarding melee, stealth, moment to moment crafting and so on. But as this thread proves, different strokes for different folks!

Don't skewer me, but Bastion. I like the art style. I like (some of) the music. But I feel nothing for the Boy, the narrator's voice is grating and jarring to me, and the fighting mechanics are tedious.

I can agree with this. Last of Us was most definitely a satisfying game to play and the combat mechanics were well implemented. I know had a lot of fun playing it, but some seemed determined to act like the only reason anyone likes the game has nothing to do with how it plays (Presumably because the suggestion fits a certain narrative), so what can you do really.

Not the entire game by any means, but seeing all those fade rifts in the final area I had to explore in dragon age just bored me to tears. The emptiness of the hissing wastes no doubt contributed as well - I said fuck it and left them all alone.

Aside from those, the ~80 hours I had with it were thoroughly enjoyable

Dragon Age: Inquisition, although part of the boredom may be my own fault. I started over slightly after the halfway mark (*and having finished a ton of side quests) due to the Knight Enchanter simply not being any fun. Every fight was pretty much the same, and not difficult at all (on Hard) once factoring in crafted weapons and armor. I ended up replaying everything again as a different specialty; which was slightly more fun, but doing all of the same crap all over again so soon was a bit much.

No shit. You'd think that the majority of the defenders of its untarnishable status had never seen any dramatic movies, or read any dramatic books. The "game" entirely rests on its piecemealed story and stellar production values. The gameplay parts aren't really bad at all, they just aren't anything that had not already been done to death by other games, including ND's own.
Except it does it all very well and weaves that into the world it creates without the tedium of a pc survival simulator.. it hits all the right notes gameplay wise for all the types of players, if its not your cup of tea despite it, that's fine, a lot of the types of games you hold at high esteem i still scoff at.. but undoubtedly , its one of the best games made in its class if only for the combination of what it does right.

Infamous: SS

My first entry into the series, what a boring game. I made it up to the neon powers and couldn't be bothered to turn it on anymore.

DriveClub.

It's a turd of a game. Pretty, no question. But the "Tour" mode is so lame and poorly executed. And the whole "club" thing... *zzz*

DriveClub is to racing games what Crysis is to FPS games.

Hell, Playstation All Stars Battle Royale, which I fully agree was a half assed attempt from Sony at making Smash clone, gave me better online performance than smash.
And I had slower Internet when I played that game

That's fine that you enjoyed playing it, everyone has different tastes and all. I think myself and a bunch of others here apparently just didn't think it was very fun and for me personally the atmosphere and Story were the only thing that kept me pushing forward and even that was a struggle at times.

Dawn of War: Chaos Rising. The game handles really sluggishly, and the pace the units move is snail slow. The first mission was incredibly lame and tedious and totally turned me off from the experience. I guess I am spoiled just coming off Heart of the Swarm, which has really fun mission design and great game feel.

Dragon Age: Inquisition (about 3 weeks ago).

Apart from a few main story missions, the game was utterly mediocre and forgettable to me.

The game is so padded with boring side stuff, the completionist in me had to do it even though it was such a chore.

Xenoblade Chronicles. I love a lot about the game, but I can't bring myself to finish it. I get so bored with the combat, I'm really hoping XCX does something to make it more interesting. I'm still gonna buy it day 1 tho.
I would put my expectations over the combat in check, if I were you. I have high hopes for the game, though, just not for the combat in special.
Yes, a game is supposed to be fun so if you're bored while playing it, it failed at its job.
A game is supposed to be fun in your opinion ;)

Far Cry 4. 8 hours in and I only have 4 towers because I mostly hunted animals. I shouldn't have played Blood Dragon immediately before.

Previously Mordor and Black Flag.

I'm not sure why I often persevere through games that bore me. I just finished Episode 2 of Telltale's Game of Thrones, and that had to be the most boring 2 hrs of gaming that I've experienced in a long time. What a slog.

What's your recent "oh my god this is boring, why am I playing this" gaming experience?

So the game isn't on the same level as the last Telltale games?

I was looking forward to this.

There's been a quite a few duds recently. Destiny, Assassin's Creed: Unity and The Evil Within come to mind.

Destiny is just one massive, boring slog. Assassin's Creed: Unity is just one tedious disappointment after disappointment and The Evil Within dragged on and on and on and ended up going nowhere. Finished those three the end of 2014 but those were the last few I finished.

Special mention goes to Dragon Age: Inquisition because of the ridiculously boring filler quests and the story that went nowhere with a pretty obvious and generic "big bad". 110 hours I put into that. Don't know how to be honest. Time flew by, which I guess you could argue is a good thing. Looking back though, I have no interest whatsoever in replaying it right now.

Completely, 100% disagree with people saying The Last of Us. I don't think I can add anything else to what others have said about it to praise it any more. I will agree that the first hour, maybe slightly more, can be a bit tedious on the third, fourth time around but that's the only negative I can think of.

Transistor by a mile. Able to finish it b/c it's super short, but man was it boring. Super pretty, but super boring.
