It feels like a Lynch...no, a Jodorowsky movie. It's fucking insane this was treated as a big release from a studio.

Never seen a Jodorowsky film, but this movie feels like a descent into mad fever dream as It progressesIs this really how it is?
I missed Enter the Void when it ran through my local theater, and I really thought that'd be my last chance to see something truly nightmarish on the big screen.

It pleases me to hear an Aronofsky film is not just getting shit reviews but also tanking financially.
Don't know, I'd say more Zulawksi with his more manic filmmaking style that feels more theatrical and surreal, not caring about reality. It feels like a Lynch...no, a Jodorowsky movie. It's fucking insane this was treated as a big release from a studio.
Damn. Now I have to see this movie.Don't know, I'd say more Zulawksi with his more manic filmmaking style that feels more theatrical and surreal, not caring about reality.
Beware, his movies are bonkers from start to finish.Damn. Now I have to see this movie.

But why? Haven't heard about him going all "Polanski" or even "Mel Gibson". Why the malice towards him?It pleases me to hear an Aronofsky film is not just getting shit reviews but also tanking financially.
I know. He's one of my favorite directors.Beware, his movies are bonkers from start to finish.

Why?
Not defending him or anything. I know jack shit about him. Why does this please you?
I mean, it isn't getting shit reviews.

Maybe it's the weeb narrative of how he rips off anime or something.
Oh look I called it. Where's the rolfmao emoji?
Should reviews take the marketing into consideration?
Do you know if Possession is available VOD anywhere?Beware, his movies are bonkers from start to finish.
Or maybe it's that Kon was dying of pancreatic cancer at the same time while Aronofsky denied him being an influence when it was so damn obvious. Maybe, just maybe, there's a human element at play here. Hmmmmm.

You should check out Mother! You'd like it.
Yeah there's the human element of stupid obsessive fans who don't even know Satoshi Kon projecting their disdain and abusing his personal suffering to try and bring meaning to their negativity, sure. I agree, it's fucking shitty that fans do that. Disgusting really.

Ah, I actually remember reading something about this now. Thanks for the clarification.I've talked about it before and don't want to derail the thread with that. But basically it amounts to how much he ripped off a fellow director he claimed was a friend/influence, how much he denied their influence and the fact this person was dying of pancreatic cancer at the same time. Aronofsky is a douche.

I've heard the suggestions of "plagiarism" of Perfect Blue by Aronofsky with the Black Swan (altough the idea of plagiarism in a visual medium where great shots and scenes are replicated and riffed on all the time) but I've not heard the angle that he was close friends with Kon and denied the influence, etc. Just because I'm curious, do you know if there is any validity to the posters claims?
Ah, I actually remember reading something about this now. Thanks for the clarification.
It's very disgusting that people twist a valid critique of a shitty thing Aronofsky did to a fellow artist while he was dying of pancreatic cancer into being about "weebs", I absolutely agree.
Possession is on Amazon Video for UK but not USA it seems.Do you know if Possession is available VOD anywhere?

Lol fantastic.Oh look I called it. Where's the rolfmao emoji?
Yes I'm sure that using "Satoshi Kon was dying of pancreatic cancer" over and over and over in your argument like it is a bullet point is a very respectable and humane thing to do. It really shows how much you truly care about the person and it absolutely is not an example of you being a terrible person who uses terminal illnesses other people have as an fanboy argument point. Keep going!
Oh nice! Do you know if there are any other movies on UK that aren't available in the US yet? Got to rent The Villainess and now this thanks to thatPossession is on Amazon Video for UK but not USA it seems.
I just noticed there's a movie about a lion named kimba and it actually released before the lion king
So looking at it, I didn't either. But try saying "Kimba" and then "The Lion King" out loud, and I think the similarities become much clearer.Kimba
...Lion King
....Simba
Kimba
Simba
I dont see it.
It was to Duckroll for calling it. Wanted to acknowledge that, that's all.I don't see what's so mic-droppy about this.
I saw Aronofsky at the grocery store the other day (just after I had seen Mother, funny enough). I asked him if he had ever heard of the Bible before, and he said he hasn't even heard of it. I was taken aback by this response, and he proceeded to shove a bunch of Milky Way chocolate bars (with wrappers still on) into his mouth. It was to Duckroll for calling it. Wanted to acknowledge that, that's all.
While I haven't seen Perfect Blue myself, I don't know why would he lie that it wasn't an influence if it actually was. It's not like he would be shy talking about works that influenced him.
You're the one who started all of this in the first place on a personal level. And you're also the one antagonistically trying to continue this derail when I already suggested moving on. Like right when this statrted. This isn't professional behavior at all, duckroll.
Also, sorry I give a damn about personal and artistic integrity. Sorry, I find it disgusting someone would do that to a person they claimed was their friend while they were dying. Like seriously, where do you even get off here?
BAD ADVICE
I loved the trailer when I saw it in the cinema. The trailed is really well done and it has good actors in it. It was love at first sight. I wanted to see it.
But then I saw the movie...
It's TRASH. Remember that pretentious hipster girl on youtube that inserts something in her vagina and talks some dirt gibberish during the act? Give her 35mln budget and she would probably make the same movie.
I actually wanted to run outside and go home.
I'm just laughing at you because you think you are on some moral high ground about this and your obsessive attempt to position it in a twisted way is just so silly. Aronofsky never denied watching Perfect Blue, he never denied that Black Swan has similarities to Perfect Blue. He said he wasn't directly inspired by Perfect Blue in the conceptualization of Black Swan, that the roots of his inspiration for the film came from somewhere else. He openly admits and talks about Perfect Blue's influence on Requiem for a Dream. He didn't "befriend Kon to buy the rights" either, they aren't friends. Kon doesn't even own the rights to his own works because that's not how film in Japan works. They met once, as peers, after Requiem was released, and they talked about Perfect Blue. This was long after any rights were supposedly acquired for a live action Perfect Blue which was never made. Kon has never complained about being ripped off. Aronofsky has never talked shit about Kon. This is all fanfiction assigning malice to creators landing in similar places with very different films, just because they actually watched the works the other made. Literally nonsense.

Ah. So this is what people are referring to by mother getting a terrible score. Another mismanaged marketing attempt.
Yeah, Lady Macbeth (prime), and A Silent Voice for films from this year. I haven't looked up anything else.Oh nice! Do you know if there are any other movies on UK that aren't available in the US yet? Got to rent The Villainess and now this thanks to that
Given you have numerous facts regarding this outright wrong
I actually have interviews in both English and Japanese with Aronofsky and Satoshi Kon in front of me now. Do you want to go at it or are you just going to keep waving your hands screaming "artistic integrity" and pancreatic cancer"?
Thanks! Much appreciatedYeah, Lady Macbeth (prime), and A Silent Voice for films from this year. I haven't looked up anything else.
Holy shit, I had no idea. Do I need a VPN or something?Oh nice! Do you know if there are any other movies on UK that aren't available in the US yet? Got to rent The Villainess and now this thanks to that
