Mountaintop Studios set to reveal their competitive FPS game on August 1st

looks like CS for 15 year old weebs.

Ok maybe that's a bit harsh but I just don't understand why these studios are making games that seemingly DIRECTLY compete with already established juggernauts.

Watched 4 seconds of that and tapped out.

WUB WUB WUB song and fortnite art style. Western game development is so cooked. I hope China and Korea start making more games.

Overwatch was bigger than most of you realize.

Dark Souls 1 - 3 sold around 10 million a piece and inspired how many Soulslike clones? Overwatch was waaaaaay bigger than Elden Ring.

Valorant is doing crazy good.

It's also mostly an irrelevant question because your fire the gun based on Overwatch and wait 5+ years to see where the bullet lands.
i think it's always a big gamble particularly for multiplayer service games that need to keep an audience. There needs to be a hook. Valorant came early enough that CS mixed with overwatch was a good hook.

If they want this game to succeed I hope they have something like that to set it apart so it's not battleborne'd

You're probably partially right, but I suspect the developers of these games believe they have a unique hook. Whether they do or not is a different story. Still, easy to see why we're getting Overwatch clones 8 years after Overwatch.

Now where's that Battle Royale wave?

Are we meant to know who mountain top are...

it just seems like one of those "From the people that made call of duty......s manuals and boxes" type studios

Yeah, they've talked about how they're made up of industry veterans or something.

Not really sure how I'm feeling about this glimpse. The art style is interesting, but the snippet of gameplay doesn't look like anything new or exciting. Yet again...

Never heard of this, cool designs. This is some old art from their twitter

Of course there's a gamble, every game production of gambling with millions in invested money and manhours; the upside though is that GAAS can result in a return of billions (even without a big brand name or publisher to push it,) and you're just not talking this kinds of numbers in the standard game market.

I do agree though that there's not much room for like-alikes, especially with no distinguishing hook. We have yet to see how far the band can stretch to accommodate new competitors, but we do know that lots have tried and failed to get in. (However, for every failed GaaS, I could also name dozens of single-player or traditional MP games which have also disappeared, and we'd have to dig into budgets to know what profits or losses looked like in comparison. )

Art style looks closer to Rollerdome but not as well realized.

That ridiculous "every hype commercial" song was somehow unbearable even for four seconds.

The gameplay looks basic, but hey the artstyle is kind of my cup of tea, i think i will try it (once i had free time)
