Movie ticket prices have really gotten out of control in the last ~five years.

Movie prices seem actually pretty good here for me. I don't know about regular ticket prices, but where I live, the theaters have tickets all day Tuesday for $5 for everyone, and $5 on Thursday for College Students, so I've often seen movies on opening night for $5 because I go to school. They even include a free popcorn if I want one.

Recently moved to Switzerland and in my area a standard 2D movie ticket costs around $18. It has really affected how frequently I go to the movies. Now I basically only go to watch things I really want to see ASAP and that's like 2 times a year (Last year it was just Star Wars).

I no longer go to watch a movie just because it looks interesting or because I've heard good things about it. For that I will just wait for the Blue Ray release and then rent/stream it (or hell you can buy the Bluray for the price of oe ticket).

Ticket prices are insane in Australia as well. Probably cheapest you'll find is just under $10 on the cheap Tuesday but a majority of cinemas would be about $20.

I also object to paying so much and then having to watch 45 minutes of ads and previews. If you advertise the movie starts at 11 then start the movie at 11. I don't have time to watch a 90 minute movie when it takes 140 minutes
I don't go to the movies because of the price and time factor. I can't remember the last movie I watched at a cinema

I almost never go to the movies now, partly because of this. It's just a terrible value. Plus, there's a nearly endless supply of older films I can watch at home on Netflix or the occasional redbox rental.

My home theater setup isn't as good as the cinema, but I can't pause a movie at the theater to refresh my drink either, so I think it's a fair trade.

Last time I went to the movies the ticket was like 8 or 9 bucks and I was like ''huh, that's cheap'' because it had been awhile since I went

I find them pretty cheap tbh

Just saw Jason Bourne for $4 each matinee!

We also have a really nice theater here that charges ~$9-10 for 2d at the lowest tier. But there are different auditoriums that are more expensive, including ones with alcohol and food and stuff. That one, the Warren Theater, we save for more special movies that we're more hyped for.

With a 70" TV at home, HD streams being released 3-5 months after the movie is in theaters, and $2-5 nightly rental fees for said movies, its become a thing where I will only go to theaters maybe twice a year for an "event" movie - last two I saw were The Force Awakens and Deadpool, everything else at home. I was gonna see Star Trek Beyond, Bourne, and Suicide Squad but meh reviews have me convinced just to wait. Probably only movie I will this fall is Rogue One.

My TVs not even 4K HDR, once I upgrade to that I imagine it'll look even better. Fuck theaters, other people talking, high prices, crappy concession food, audio issues, lighting issues, etc.

Another thing I absolutely HATE about movies is the goddamn $1-3 fee they charge as a convenience fee. Motherfuckers, me buying tickets online is a CONVENIENCE TO YOU. You know exactly how many seats are sold ahead of time, you get the money upfront, you save on having a person deal with money and stuff. Why the hell are you charging ME the fee? If anything, buying a ticket ahead of time should give a DISCOUNT, like airlines.

But man, ~$32+ for just the tickets sure makes it hard to "splurge" and see a movie you know you're not going to like. I'm convinced that this - in addition to the middling reviews - is why we've seen a reduction in box office draws this year. I don't know how a family of 4 does it.
Same day onegames, video cards, sneakers.

People will pay a stupid premium for first dibs

Saw Ghostbusters at 10:45AM two Sundays ago at an AMC. Was pleasantly surprised to see the tickets at $5.25 a piece. I'm... I'm really glad we didn't pay more than that. But yeah, I just try to think of 3D showings as a trip to an amusement park, or something. Pretty nuts.

Pittsburgh tends to be in the 10-12 range for 2D showings still, unless it's a day one HYPE show (Star Wars, etc) or something.

Yeah. And that stupid "convenience fee" if you buy online. I've taken to buying discount gift cards online at 15% discount and hitting the 10AM/11AM $6 shows on Saturday/Sunday. I used to also watch everything in 3D or IMAX 3D. Dropped that too. There are too many shit movies around.

its super expensive going to the cinemas here for me (melb, australia)

full price is $21 (+$1 booking fee if you wanna select your seat) (which i always like to do for new releases) so that's $22, plus popcorn and drinks ($15ish)... which totals to almost $40. and that's not counting like parking and stuff

if i go with my SO, we have to double that price (except for parking)

so, i always have to prep about $80 for a 2-person cinema outing with my SO ... and 3D is even more expensive $___$;;;;;

we dont have matinees either, but we do have discount tuesdays. prices are like $12 per person on discount tuesdays... i wish i live somewhere with less than $10 tickets omg so jealous at some of you guys' prices *_____*

I usually end up going on Tuesdays here, since tickets are $5 all day. Also get a free small popcorn with their rewards club, which is free. Regular matinee prices are $7.50, and $10 for evenings, so still not that bad. I think 3D is usually a couple bucks more, but I generally avoid that anyway. Concession prices are what really murder you, though.

There's also a 2nd run theater here that has tickets for like $2 at all showings or something. Double bonus, since they serve pizza and beer as well, and it's an old single-screen theater, so the atmosphere is kinda cool.
