Movies you rewatched which were way better the second time around

I watched Gladiator when I was a kid, It was great but I didn't think much of it. I just rewatched it and wow, the cinematography is something else. Even the use of colors is impressive, it grows more expressive as the story of Maximus moves forward.

Any movies impressed you more on a second viewing?

Kill List. It was my first Ben Wheatley movie and he's got a pretty distinct film making voice, so I didn't know what I was in for. Something felt "off" the entire time, but I was too stupid to realise that was kinda the point.

Second time round I absolutely loved it, it's a favourite from that decade and I've watched everything Wheatley has done before and since now, even spoken to him a few times in person at premiers.

If you're interested in a hard-edged drama/thriller/horror hybrid I suggest you go in totally blind, don't Google anything, just watch it.

I had this recently with Suspiria.

I watched the original a few years back because a coworker recommended it, was bored out of my mind and DID NOT enjoy it.
FFW to last year when the remake came out, I loved the remake so much I went back to the original to find the original quite pleasant contrary to what i first experience.

A lot of films with a twist are worth a second watch once you know what's up. I'm sure there are loads of better examples but films like Fight Club have lots of details to spot on a rewatch.

I didn't like Predators when I watched it for the first time, but I guess that's because it was very different from the original and the cast didn't look a bunch of dudes high of testosterone. It was much more enjoyable during a rewatch and I'm even disappointed we got absolutely shitty Predator reboot instead of Predators 2.

Now that i think about it, just about every movie i have ever watched...

I think it would be more interesting if it was the other way around (felt worse the second viewing).

I find many of Lynch's movies better on subsequent viewings, Lost Highway, Mulholland Drive, Inland Empire, Blue Velvet, because you can focus better on trying to figure out what the fuck is actually happening by analyzing things further.

I must have been drunk a lot in the late 90s, but I rewatched The Matrix and Fight Club circa Y2K and they made sense. Hated Boondock Saints originally but love it now. Also saw Watchmen twice after hating it in theaters but now I get why it's so popular.

Black panther. I HATED it the first time. I was going through a rough time so it may have had something to do with it but the second watch I actually enjoyed it for what it was. But it still isn’t the greatest movie.

What time is it?
Jackie Brown - Not sure why but I didn't care for it much the first go around. It might be my favorite QT film now.

Definitely the most underrated of his films. Except death proof. Which is just rubbish compared to the glory of planet terror.

Ghost in the Shell. It gets better every time you watch it. The movie is filled with amazing themes and symbolism that you have no chance of seeing the first or even second or third time around. There isn't a single irrelevant frame in the movie, a masterpiece and one of the finest movies ever made.

Blade Runner for sure but it was like the 4th or 5th time, final cut on 4k. I think the narration turned me off originally and the quality difference between VHS and UHD is immense. I loved BR49 immediately though.

Most recently I rented The Gentlemen and was fairly tired while watching. Didn’t click then but rewatched with the wife the next day and thoroughly enjoyed it.

The Constant Gardener. Thought it was a depressing boring ass slog the first time I watched it. Then watched it again a few years later and quite enjoyed it actually.

The 1992 Bram Stoker's Dracula. I used to watch clips of it just to make fun of it when it came out. When I watched it the second or third time I noticed that it was unique how they built the sets, used miniatures, and was impressed by some of the cinematic challenges.

Rocky 5, too. I love all the original 4 movies but I didn't like 5 the first time I saw it. The second time I watched it, I caught more humor and appreciated it differently.

Combining both, I reckon Rocky could've taken out Dracula.
