I need to go ahead and locate some more Alan Rudolph films to watch. The Moderns really impressed me in a way I never expected, and yet so many of his movies lack home video treatments I'd like to try out. Ugh.

Might be the best movie of the year.

Anyone here familiar with any of his other works? Looking at imdb, it seems that he's been making movies since 1980, with only four feature length movie to his credit prior to Holy Motors.

Can't say I've ever heard of:

Pola X
The Lovers on the Bridge
Mauvais Sang
or
Boy Meets Girl

This movie-waching year I think I'm going to try and focus on filmographies. Finished Spielberg, one left in Scorsese. Next up going to try Polanski, Lars von Trier and Ridley Scott since they are manageable -- anyone else trying this?

I've been trying to do this with Kurosawa's but most of his earlier stuff like the hidden fortress are either too expensive for me, or not available in my location at all. I've also got Von Trier on my list, which i'm sure i'll be able to manage this year.

They're all worth watching, though outside of Holy Motors I only really love Mauvais Sang.

Is the lock not automatic? Huh! Then I'll have time to jump in
Red is such a good fucking movie but I still think I like Veronique better.

You know, that's a lie. I change my mind on Kieslowski all the time.
I'm just beginning my Kieslowski education (got the kino dvd set this holiday), but I've seen the Dekalog, Veronique, and Three Colors. Red's my favorite of all that, and the rest are always switching. Veronique took me the longest to love for some reason, didn't like it much right after watching.

Dekalog 1, 6, Blue and Red are my favorite. I like blue more than Red. Red is great and it would have been the best, but I didn't like the ending that much.

Nah, if you noticed threads get locked at different times. Its a matter of when a mod catches it

I tend to watch movies by marathoning through filmographies, genres, countries, etc. So yes, I'll likely end up doing this at several points through out the year.

It's only a matter of time before we all migrate to the new thread!

And there's few things I dislike more than John Wayne or The Searchers :D

But the searchers is great and so is that shot :(

Anyways, I thought the thread would end at post 20000, that's why I put The Third Man's shot. I guess this is one of the ROTK endings lol.

I've always felt the same way.

In fact, until I rediscovered the genre by way of the fine efforts of the Italians, I just assumed I hated all westerns period.

Yeah, nearly everything about them sans a few bouts of sound cinematography rubs me the wrong way. Especially the music. I fucking loathe American Western soundtracks too, they sound so damned cheesy.

That's not to say that there aren't any older American Westerns that I don't like (there are), I don't give them a chance (I do), or that I consider them to be bad films (they aren't), I simply don't like them for personal reasons.
