MS buys the Xbone.com domain name

If you want some respect then start dropping the title "Major" first you hypocritical prick, then you have my and everybody who have ascended to the "Major" rank's respect. No? Then stop whining.

Arrogant prick.

Fucking kidding me with this?

Marketing at a company this size should have caught this while they were naming the thing. This is entry-level marketing stuff. Look at all types of names, nicknames, and abbreviations that might be given to your product.

It's easier to type xbone than it is xb1 because xbone naturally uses two hands and you don't have to lift your hand off the keyboard like when you type xb1.

Noone called the 360 the XB360 , it was always X360. It makes no sense to say XBONE, It is just XONE

I have honestly never seen it referred to as X360. I've seen it called 'the 360' in casual conversation, but we can't call the Xbox One 'The One' as that is stupid.

XONE sounds a bit silly too. XBone is inherently silly, but at least its a tad funny.

honestly, I find anybody that says writing xbone is easier than xb1 to disingenuous. Like nobody writes PSFOUR. its just dumb

Someone snap up OnceDivorced.com quick!

Also I can't believe this cheeky Nelson chap used my word. Seriously, how cheeky is that?

Of course it makes sense. Microsoft did some boneheaded things with this console, and they tried to bone gamers with their anti-consumer practices, which is why Xbone is more appropriate than anything else. And, yes, it's meant to be disrespectful...it's not an accident that it seems that way. Maybe when Microsoft earns back that respect people will stop using the moniker. Until then they can suck it up and deal with it.

They are using xbone themselves now it seems.
That's the best way to handle stuff like this. Crying about how disrespectful it is just makes you look humorless and out of touch.

Was just talking about xb1 vs. xbone. ps4 is equivelant of xb1, but you really don't have a choice with the playstation it's too long to type out playstation four.

Now I can call it Xbone without being a racist, because as some of our slower members have tried to teach me. Xbone is just as bad as n****r somehow lulz.

Wait... did this honestly happen? Did someone honestly try to argue this point? Holy hell I can't believe some people.

As for me, I genuinely called the Xbox One the XBOne when I first heard of it. It was simply easier to type than XB1, which required strectching my fingers from my normal resting position to reach the top left corner of my keyboard. A lot of people like me didn't even see the 'harm' in the name, until people who had their feelings hurt pointed it out.

I've subsequently started using the terms "Xbox One" and "XB1", in lieu of a much more comfortable alternative, simply to avoid being labeled as a fanboy. However, you can bet your left buttock that I would have kept saying Xbone, unless instructed otherwise. The name is not the result of fanboy hatred, but the result of a failure in branding and marketing. The Xbox One is a victim of no one else but itself.

I know zero people who say X360. Xbone started because of MS policies and it was funny next to COD Ghost dog reveal aka Collar Duty reveal.

Major Nelson made it worse by actually commenting on it. lol

This is Microsofts own fault for having such a stupid inferiority complex about having their console be one number below the Playstation.

If MS were smart they'd embrace it and take advantage of it instead of being so self-conscious. XBone can easily be turned into something cool. Bones are hardcore, brah.

Did this thread get xboned or did the internet xbone microsoft till the point they xboned gaf?
We were going to get Xboned by MS, so we developed the term 'Xbone' as a way to Xbone them back. MS decided not to Xbone us after all, because they were getting Xboned so hard in the preorder department. Then after a while had passed they cried about the word Xbone saying it hurt their feelings which we didn't really intend and we feel bad about. Then in a surprise move they bought the domain Xbone, thus validating it all along, and now we're giving them a gentle and humorous Xboning in return.

I'm with this guy here:

Not to mention that XONE is already the acronym for a major manufacturing company/service. That only reinforces the idea that people who called the Xbox 360 the X360, would call the Xbox One the Xbone.

Also I have never heard someone say X360. They always say "The 360". And there's not a chance in hell that "The One" would have caught on.

I believe I have a point in regards to comments like this; what sole purpose exists in it other than to irritate people who dislike the nickname?
What separates this from M$ or $ony or other similar nicknames? Those are disallowed to discourage the brainless discussions which often follow and lead to brand bashing and arguments consisting of over-repeated points. There's absolutely zero value to come from a post such as this.

-forgot to say, this differs from casual use in discussion, as using it as a name is technically a shortcut, compared to just instigation.

Why would anyone on this planet, besides Microsoft's employees/stockholders be irritated about Xbone please? Is that your beloved console?

Irritating is when some people want to stop other people calling this thing the way they want. I dislike XBO (sounds stupid) and X1, but bitching about "OMG why did you call that this" is not something I'd do about it.

I'm not going to agree that Xbone is "disrespectful" (implying that a piece of consumer tech deserves respect) but I also don't think IGN is on-point calling the name "mostly-affectionate." Hahahaha

If majornelson thinks it's disrespectfull then he needs to dig up a sense of humour.

Satire and caricature is part of the life form in this biz.

It's like a politician complaining that a newspaper cartoonist drew a caricature of him.

X1 or XBO isn't more difficult than saying "PS3" or "PS4". And to my knowledge, that worked out pretty fine.

Heck, even the "Xbox 360" is stupid. There's never been consensus about whether it's "X360" or "XB360" or just "360".

Xbone is a good joke, though. Nothing more, nothing less.

I think consensus for the 360 is pretty much..."360." Unless you're saying/writing Xbox 360 out in full, you write 360. Not X360. Not XB360.

It's all one big xbone circle.

While I completely agree and call it that for the same reason, it's kind of funny seeing so many people say that Xbone rolls off the tongue so well lol.

For generations of consoles, gamers have shortened the console/gaming system names.

Nintendo entertainment system - NES.
Super Nintendo entertainment system - SNES.
Personal Computer - PC.
Gameboy - GB.
Gameboy Advanced - GBA.
Nintendo 64 - N64.
Playstation - PSX.
Playstation 2 - PS2.
Playstation 3 - PS3.

And now Xbox one - Xbone.
---
The trouble with Xbone is, it was initially used as a joke (the cod dog + Xbox one), BUT it actually fits perfectly as a shortened name and caught on. So as much as MS (or certain people at MS) may not like it, it is pretty much now the shortened name for the system from now on.

"Gamers"? Most of those you quoted are in fact official acronyms (also, it's PSX and not "PS", and it's Game Boy Advance, not "Advanced") with officially designed logos, it's not like Xbone or even X360/360.
Microsoft never cared for nicknames or acronyms for their products, besides afaik Win for "Windows" as in "Win95".

He has a point considering "Major" Nelson tried to shrug off the issues of real soldiers not being able to play xbone when it had the online DRM system.

His name is a reference to I Dream of Jeannie, just saying. I don't like the guy at all and think he's incredibly slimy but there's far better reasons to shit on him than that.

disrespectful?

Maybe you dumbasses should have came up with a better name. It would have been clever if it was the one box for everything, but it's not.

Original Xbox is XB1 or Xbox, the Xbox 360 is X360 or 360, Xbox One will be Xbone.
