MS buys the Xbone.com domain name

Xbone is way more creative than ''One''. I'm still calling it Xbone.

And again, what would "One" or "The One" refer to anyway? BBC One? Radio One? HTC One? One o'clock? XBOX One? PlayStation One? Bulmers No. One?

It's far too ambiguous. It was never, ever, ever going to work. When you say XBone, people immediately know what you're referring to. It's as simple as that.

"There are over 200 bones in the human body, every one working in perfect harmony. But despite millions of years of evolution, one bone was always missing....until now. Some say it's purpose is unclear, others say it's not essential. You decide!"

(Queue game/feature montage)

"Are you ready to evolve?"

this would have been a really sick commercial late 90s to early 2000s actually. They should have named the actual Xbox 1 the Xbone

Oh no.

You don't like the humor.

Poor you.

The reason it gets used my man, is because it is..... Shhh, dont tell anyone.

Obvious.

"Poor me."

What the actual fuck?

I don't like the name. Do I sound depressed about it? "Poor you." Where does this response make any sense at all. Not a rhetorical question. I don't get it.

XBO is the literal acronym for Xbox One, so using your... logic? That would make more sense to use.

Do you really talk like that to people in RL? Like, are you this mid-nineties sarcasm caricature to everyone?

I would never had thought to call it 'The One', as that term to me is already taken by The Matrix, and the old 16-bit gaming mag.

At least Xbone is a unique moniker. The really stupid thing about Xbox One as a name is the original console has been called a variation of that ever since the 360 launched.

Nostalgia overload, that is an old memory.

OT: I don't think Xbone is any worse than Ass Creed or similar, not really sure why people get worked up over it. And immediately "The One" makes me think of Neo, not the new Xbox.

That they are being witty and clever.

They are not.

"Persecution complex?" I just think the humor is dull and obvious. I actually do not care about the XBO as a system or Microsoft as a company. The usage of "xbone" in itself is just lame.

Why does everyone have to be a fan boy to have a stance or an opinion on something gaming related on these forums?

It is persecution complex.

You have generalized users of the term down to just people wanting to be negative, wanting to be funny, or desiring to be “extreme“ (whatever that means.) Even though many posters, Xbox buyer or not, have stated they simply uses the name cause it is catchy.

You're perfectly entitled to your opinions regarding the nickname. However, it is no less “lame“ when you start assigning labels to others who don't necessarily share your opinion or fall into your categorization.

I remember reading something on here a few months ago I think about how it got out that everyone at Microsoft kinda laughs at him behind his back,, would explain a lot huh

I don't know how true that is, but I honestly don't think he has much influence with the actual team developing and managing the xbox.

His interaction with the community in a sense he is similar to @yosp. Except Yoshida comes across as genuine, down to earth, doesn't communicate with a condescending tone, and actually holds a high ranking position within Sony.

It is persecution complex.

You can just keep saying that over and over. It still does not make any sense.

You have generalized users of the term down to just people wanting to be negative, wanting to be funny, or desiring to be “extreme“ (whatever that means.) Even though many posters, Xbox buyer or not, have stated they simply uses the name cause it is catchy.

So, firstly, if you honestly believe that Xbone did not come into prominence based on people mocking Microsoft, then you have not read any XBO thread ever.

Secondly, I wasn't literally saying that people were being "extreme." I was comparing the use of Xbone to that of the word extreme as used in the movie Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle.

This ranks as one of the dumbest things I have discussed on GAF.

Edit: I wonder if we'll get any more comments out of Penello or Nelson over this debacle.

There seems to be quite a few people who don't realise that xbone actually makes sense as a natural way of addressing it.

XB 360 = XB360
XB one = XBone.

theres nothing added or removed to form xbone. which is why it probably caught on so much.

At least they're using the Xbone name well now?

Did they give him an advanced copy? Otherwise that's just further stupid. The whole thing is just stupid.. It's the 3rd console yet they're calling it Xbox One... It's in line with being nearly as stupid as Wii U title.

Also, what's being done about XBL Gold? Is it going to be 10% off 1-2 year old DLC & XBLA games like a lot of the terrible sales were in the past? From what's been mentioned they're now transitioning towards no longer selling p2p..Like, totally next Gen!

However, PSPlus gives you roughly $500+ worth of games in 12 months. Also no NSA goodness. Monitoring you in your home via Kinect isn't that much different to monitoring your activity via phone or online by accessing the internet from your home pc/laptop/Mn$a surface.

With the amount of focus testing and product research that goes on it blows my mind that they didn't see it coming. It was posted here and multiple different places on the web within minutes of the name reveal.

Pretty hilarious how you seem to take this all so seriously.

Not sure if this has been posted yet, but apparently even Microsoft hate the name :)

Taking /v/ posts seriously.

#icant

Also I shall forever call it the 720 because fuck calling it a sequel to the X-box 180. :|

Yeah? Dude told me I had a persecution complex. Other dude came right out of an episode of friends because I dislike the name, and I am taking this too seriously?

I already said this is a dumb conversation. I don't know how I am taking this too seriously. Other than responding at all.

Hey Guys, Remember this?

This actually at least makes sense. It's their first console, hence the one. In fact it never got that branding until PS2 was released I belie3ve. Calling your third console "one" was never going to work and they should have realized it. They should've spent some of the 100 million for the controller on some decent branding for the console.

I can kind of see where he was coming from. Whenever I write about the Xbox One, I want to call it the one simply because of "the 360". Surely I am not the only one (pun not intended). But then I have to stop myself and think hell no I'm not calling this "the one", that's just plain silly. Maybe, maybe if they nailed this thing out of the park, I would have considered it, maybe. But yeah, they didn't.
