4.5 Presentation
Great options and tons of content, but the load times are terrible and the lack of an autosave is a major oversight.
7.0 Graphics
Nice detail on bikes and riders, though the texture work on the ground is rather muddy.
7.0 Sound
We expected a cheesy new-metal soundtrack and whining bikes, and that's exactly what we got.
9.0 Gameplay
Fantastic track design, great physics/racing engine and tons and tons of tracks and events to run through.
8.0 Lasting Appeal
Tons of content and Ad Hoc play means you'll have hours and hours and hours to race.
8.3

They say the loading times are up to a 1:40 seconds for a race. :O

I'm bummed because I was prepared to buy this game as I love the series. I am very torn now. I just don't know if I can deal with those load times. :/ They say the game plays great and runs smooth though. It's a shame Rainbow has never been good about load times. The PSP and a bad load time developer are a match made in hell.

:lol and to think they gave Exit a 6.8. Get your load times over 1 minute and you're almost assured an 8+ from PSP.IGN (see also WWE Smackdown vs. RAW 2006 with an 8.7)

Hey guys the graphics look nice.

Fuck these loadtimes on PSP.

Thank you.

QFT.

Developers needs to get a better handle on how to stream data on PSP. Or perhaps publishers need to give developers the money and time to do so.

Streaming media on a portable FTL.

No, shitty developers FTL. If rockstar can get a game like GTA on the psp with decent loads times, so can everyone else.

I've realized that there is no excuse for shitty load times on the PSP other than bad coding. Games like GTA:LCS and Daxter have hardly any load times at all, and are technically impressive. If a game has shitty load times, I find it hard to believe that it's the fault of the PSP; I'd say these developers need to brush up on the PSP dev-kits.

Exactly. The PSP has been out for a year. It's not like this is a launch game where it might be excusable. I just can't believe the developer sits down for a final review before the games goes Gold and says "Yeah, the load times are over a minute, but let's ship it anyway". Have they ever heard of the word "pride"? Have some.

It's not the developer's call most of the time. That's a publisher decision.

Well, I picked the game up tonight due to my lack of self control on such matters. :/

So far, so good. I just played a couple quick races and I didn't time the load times, but it sure didn't feel like a minute and half to me. The game plays really nicely on the system and the graphics look very similar to the PS2 version of this game. It's really a wonderful thing to have the entire PS2 game on the PSP now.

I have been a huge fan of this series since the first game, and this really is the definitive version of the game. The framerate is rock solid which by itself makes this a huge improvement over the launch title, ATV Offroad Fury game.

hold on now. this is Sony's fault. streaming KILLS THE BATTERY. Sony doesn't want the battery to be killed, so they have rules. also the seek times on UMD.....eh, not so good.

Nintendo's cartridges win this one.

Good GRAW distance.

But yeah, the load times don't bug me. I just like....stare at the floor.

Except that there are games out that stream and load fine on the psp (GTA: LCS). There is no excuse for excessive load times. Cartridges are only feasible on the DS due to it having n64/ps1 era graphics. But it's not feasible on modern hardware. Unless nintendo can get at least 1 gig carts for cheap by the time their next gen of portables come out. If Sony went with carts, game quality would take a huge hit and their hardware wouldn't have been utilized to it's fullest.

Does the game look close to what the screenshots look like above?

Yes, the game definitely looks like the screenshots you're seeing. It basically looks identical to the PS2 version of the game, but the ground textures appear a little less detailed. Otherwise they appear identical.

Online Play too?
No, there is no online play. Why do I get the feeling you already knew that answer? ;)

First off, I owned the Offroad Fury game on PSP at one time, and I tried it online once. I got booted from the lobby every couple minutes. Apparantly the servers sucked, so I never even tried it again. I think the online play was pretty worthless for that game.

Besides, would you rather have a perfectly smooth framerate, or online play with a framerate that shifts like the wind?
