My Fable Impressions

So after finishing Jade Empire I had a hankering for a same style RPG and remembered I had Fable in my box of barely played games.

After about 3hrs playtime - I just finished the escort quest through Barrow Fields - here are my impressions:

- Graphics are 'nice'. Game has a soft, lush, feel but a bit choppy at times and the colors seem kind of saturated, like they bleed into one another and it's hard to make out some detail sometimes. I find this somewhat troublesome when trying to pick out enemies since they blend in with the background.

- Targeting system is a bit iffy - even targeting to have people 'wait' or 'follow' takes a few button presses.

- Combat is fun but I'm not totally in tune with it yet. Basically you have to have both triggers going and all 4 face buttons. And sometimes the d-pad to use a potion. I haven't got any big multipliers yet but there seems to be lots of opportunities to hack, slash + throw a fireball + hack + shoot lightning etc etc.

- Right now I'm just doing quests. The story hasn't progressed at all since the opening scene. So I guess I'm still tutorial-ing. I do like the voice acting, though.

- Loading is a bit tiresome as you go from area to area.

- I haven't figured all the light and dark side stuff yet. And the game does have some stuff you can do like play blackjack and get tats and stuff. But it seems really fluffy and doubt I'll bother with it.

Overall I like the game, not as much as Jade Empire, though.

Nah you get a good 10 hours you're first playthrough. Enjoy it.

Oh and a tip to get huge combat multiplier - the aura shield. That's the spell you want. If you get hit, your combat multiplier doesn't drop. Come on 30+ multiplier!

Thanks for the tip! I'm going to get that.

Right now I have lightning, fireball, a force field that knocks everybody down and some kind of ninja move where you can dash right in back of your enemy (I used it on that dirt monster that blocked the Barrow Fields entrance).

fable was decent fun but the biggest problem is stuff like that aura shield. Normally I would say certain abilities like the shield are broken but in Fable ALL abilities are broken so as to make them all... equally godly.

Basically no matter what path you choose for combat, the game becomes too easy. I don't think I took any damage for the 2nd half of the game =\
