something i've been thinking about recently is how 'sharp' the art in the manga feels and how... utterly badly they fail to convey that in the anime, for some reason.

I don't feel they've tried to hit the highs of the manga art but I do feel they done pretty good in getting the character design right and the colours our spot on.

What I find odd is that for 13 episode shounen the animation is very minimal when it comes to big flashy key animation, most of set piece scene's have been super short.

This week was one of the few episode Umakoshi Yoshihiko was actually involved in but with some odd title of "Cooperation animation supervisor" with 5 other guys,

I want to see the guy who did episode 2 get another shot at an episode

Never understood people compaing manga pages to the anime. The times when anime tries to do good art like the manga people say its lazy and and like a slideshow of the manga. Again proof that manga fans are never happy with any anime they are given.

I was happy with one punch man, your lie in April, one piece(even with shitty animation and pacing), hunterXhunter, fairy tail, sword art online, food wars, prison school it goes on. People just expected more since they were doing it by seasons.

Isn't it a little weird that apparently Deku voted for himself even tho he didn't really want the position?

I hope people keep refering to Lida as "Exit sign guy" for the rest of the anime, too.

Did he? His two buddies voted for him, but I didn't necessarily think the third vote was him voting on himself.

I suspected this too, but then there was no onscreen reason for us to believe he voted for the only other person to get more than one vote, specially since Lida got 0 and if anything that would be who Deku would have voted for if not for himself.

it's funny how 1 episode can make people turn on this adaption lol, as if all the good episode never existed.

As much as a I despise bones, there actually quite a few postive aspects to them unlike JC staff(foodwars) who are the equivalent to a shovelware studio, they make nothing but cash grap low quality otaku shit.

Boku no hero is far from a bad adaptation and it's better then the A1 stuff & there sicking love for puting Yuuki KAJI(voice actor) in everything.

Hey there, the Soma adaption was awesome, and they did Heavy Object as well, which was great too.

Well, for more positive news the anime bump was enough to put My Hero Academia in the Top 10 for the first half of 2016

1 (2). One Piece (Eiichiro Oda, Shueisha) - 6,470,105 (575, 961 down from last year)
2 (3). Assassination Classroom (Yusei Matsui, Shueisha) - 4,391,966 (839,192 down)
3 (4). Attack on Titan (Hajime Isayama, Kodansha) - 4,370,941 (676,784 down)
4 (5). Haikyu!! (Haruichi Furudate, Shueisha) - 4,016,578 (428,212 up)
5 (new). "Kingdom" (Yasuhisa Hara, Shueisha) - 3,561,489
6 (1). The Seven Deadly Sins (Nakaba Suzuki, Kodansha) - 2,712,499 (4,346,901 down)
7 (new). "One-Punch Man" (One/Yusuke Murata, Shueisha) - 2,553,331
8 (new). "Bokudake ga Inai Machi" (Kei Sanbe, Kadokawa) - 2,332,110
9 (6). Tokyo Ghoul: re (Sui Ishida, Shueisha) - 2,179,345 (461,446 down)
10 (new). "My Hero Academia" (Kohei Horikoshi, Shueisha) - 2,135,591

With 8 volumes released, that is not bad at all, I guess we can expect a season 2 for sure.

Wait wait wait... are people finding this adaptation bad? It's pretty fucking good.

It is pretty good, I have no complains to be honest, its adapted almost 1:1 to its source material, the voice cast is perfect, the art direction is neat and bright and the pacing is a bit on the slow side but enjoyable.

The main complaints I concede is that its only 13 episodes, so it stops when it goes from good to great, and the sick art whiplash the manga has when it comes to villains didn't translate to the anime... yet. Next episode will justify if the animation quality is there. Impressive GIFs is what sells a show for newcomers.

I like the adaptation, you guys are nerds

The pacing is hard to not do, since the manga is fast. There's been about 8 arcs in 92 chapters. It's hard to deal with it converting panels to animation.

I like it too but the pacing is wonky though but it wouldn't be an issue if it had another season back to back. The music is great and has some good animation. The voices are topnotch too.

Yeah the anime isn't that good of an adaptation. The guy draws way better. Bones is doing an OK job at best. Ever since the the previews something about the look just felt off. Maybe it's this:

something i've been thinking about recently is how 'sharp' the art in the manga feels and how... utterly badly they fail to convey that in the anime, for some reason.

but I really can't pin in down for sure. But also the comedy in the anime feels different than from the manga in a worse way. Pacing is also slow. 2 chapters per episode would've made it a good pace.

The joke timing is borked. Compare the bus scenes, that's probably the most obvious example to me.

Yeah I think Season 2 will handle that better once they have more time to plan out, it sounds like Season 1 was planned in a rush

Planned in a rush, as in not having enough time to script and plan out every episode. It's still good, but there are rough spots like that.

Edit: all worth it for the OST tho, gonna be playing that as I read the manga

Supersonic, idiotic, disconnecting, not respecting, who would really ever wanna go and top that
Had some extra time this morning and watched the first episode. Very slow start and nothing about it really grabbed me enough to want to watch more. If I hadn't seen so much praise for manga, I probably wouldn't have given it much of a chance beyond that. I think I might watch a few more episodes just to see if it picks up some speed. But looking around it seems like reading the manga might be the way to go with this series.

You should read the manga, but the anime isn't bad. We're just going through the "second thoughts" phase

I do suggest reading the manga it's so fucking good. And it's at a great part right now.

Pretty sure there's going to be a Season 2. It's not going to get a Gecko Ending.

Kaminari fans are the best. a goldmine of captures.

The real question should be why the hell they greenlit an anime before the first volume was even OUT.

First volume came out November 2014. Anime was announced October 2015

It was still early though. Should have waited two years after it started.
