My invention hit it big so now I'm gonna buy a couple of McMansions

Always nice to see other people's success! Seems well deserved too.

Hope you get to fulfill any wish you had with the money and if you can, please try helping the people in need in the world :)

OP how you plan to protect your product from the Chinese knockoffs which Amazon will gladly sell for a third of your price?

Amazon is loaded with Chinese shit these days.

Congrats, OP! Very inspiring stuff. Love to hear about inventors.

Although I don't think I'll ever invent something so practical and marketable, it's encouragement to keep pushing forward in life and to never give up because you don't know what kind of ideas you'll have next/what kind of people you'll meet/what opportunities you might have.

Bought (finally something that Amazon ships to Malaysia!).

Mad respect to anyone who sets out and achieves his dreams.

As someone who owns a small business who is doing pretty well right now,

do be careful with your money.

You don't want to be that guy during the real estate boom making 2 million a year who lost everything because the spent like it was never going to stop.

We've had a board game in Target for just over a year that has sold a couple hundred thousand copies, and while I hope it will be evergreen and sell forever and ever, there isn't a lot of guarantee that will be the case.

I'm in the position where our product (board games) is repeatable and we can publish more. Your invention may be less repeatable.

I remember reading about your success and that was definitely inspiring for me and, I'm sure, many others around these parts.

Thank you again to all the kind words from everyone. It really means a lot. The mcmansions thing was just a joke... rest assured, the money will not be wasted.

Amazon is loaded with Chinese shit these days.

It's very annoying, but we just battle each one as they come up. Legal channels, take-down requests to Amazon, test buys, etc. Working with a firm to try to go after the source(s) in China as well. It's a long and expensive road, but if you don't fight it, the knock offs will be everywhere within a few weeks (see Drain Wig). Unfortunately, it's a reality of doing this kind of business...

Product is not in avaiable in Germany... ;-)

Nice idea OP! You deserve it.

Thanks! We ship to Germany via our website. fyi takes 2-3 weeks to arrive though

Congratulations on the success.
Great to read things like this.
Will you continue to invent new things or concentrate on this one?

I'm going to concentrate on this until it can be safely set on "auto pilot" with the right team running the show. sometimes I'm too slow to delegate because I am a sort of a perfectionist in certain things. but I have something totally different I'm going to come out with soon, the earnings of which I intend to earmark for charity (if there are any earnings lol). If the mods allow, I'd like to live blog the process here on neogaf to garner feedback, advice, and even help.

Holy shit, I designed some packaging for you OP (it was a contest over at 99designs if I remember correctly), anyway, my design wasn't ultimately used but damn... small world :) Congrats!

What? crazy coincidence! Sorry we didn't go with yours!

Congratulations on the success, OP.

You know what? I might actually have to buy your thing lol. I hate how my drain keeps getting clogged up in hair and gunk. I might be among your first international customers - IndieGogo supporters aside.

I forget if you've talked about it before, but what board game did you make?

I guarantee my sisters hair would destroy this device. Her hair is like goddamn wire. Braid it and you could use it on safety harnesses.

It's killed numerous vacuums.

Everytime I see a strand of it, I'm reminded of that scene in Superman where they have the bowling ball or whatever hanging from a strand of Supermans hair, I reckon hers would be stronger.

When you get interviewed by those entrepenuer outlets make sure you mention that you couldn't have done it without NeoGAF. lol

My only advice concerning a McMansion is that if you're gonna spoil yourself with cars as well, make sure you get a suitable garage. My BFF used to live in a mansion and we'd oogle over his neighbor's 2 story tall garage with a lift... *drool*

Wow, what an amazing & inspiring story OP - congrats on your success!!! Although I'm not an inventor, as an aspiring musician/DJ your story definitely connects with me on working as hard as possible on all of your creative endeavors or ideas and being proactive about it. Thanks for the inspiration! 👍🏿

I remember hearing a story about a guy inventing a hair catcher after seeing how good dental floss worked at catching, I think it was on RadioLab. Is that you OP?
Im thinking about maybe making some apps for iOS. I am learning Swift and Objective C for work related reason, and Swift is a nice language I gotta say. Gonna make some flappy bird clones, wish me luck!

Man, that's awesome as hell OP. Congrats on your success!! I always try to think of a product I can invent but someone always comes out with something simple like the Tub Shroom and I'm like "Why didn't think of that?!". Sometimes you don't need to create something completely new, simply just improve upon a current products design/efficiency. I'm happy for you OP.

Congrats OP! It's good to see a story of hard work paying off and that you don't just feel like you're owed it but that you're lucky as well as having worked hard for it.

OP I am a bald man who saves his head in the shower, and I know all that hair from my head, even though very short, is building up in my drain probably.

So will these even catch very short "beard / head hairs?"

I cannot imagine that it would, this is pretty small hair we are talking about, but if so, I will purchase it asap.

Congrats on living the dream. Absolutely.

OP Congrats on making a product that actually works/Affordable, would be cool if you can one day make a thread on how to make a product. People have ideas but have no clue on how to do anything else

Congrats OP on the success. Makes me wonder if my idea would gain any traction in the market or not in your success. I've kept it in my head, but I've been working on something else at the moment.

We've had a board game in Target for just over a year that has sold a couple hundred thousand copies, and while I hope it will be evergreen and sell forever and ever, there isn't a lot of guarantee that will be the case.

That something else being a board game. I can only hope to imitate your success when I get to that point.

I just bought some bath hair strainers for my house... yours doesn't fit the type of plugs I have but if I did that would have been another sale. Good stuff.

If you can't think of things to do w/ the money, don't forget philanthropy -- had a step uncle who did meals on wheels every week and left multiple million dollar donations for nonprofits upon his passing.

Congrats on your success!

Have you considered something that could go over nontraditional drains? Product looks nice but a lot of newer homes have nontraditional drains.
