Celestia is planning a party for her sister Luna, and she needs the perfect cake! The Princess enlists Pinkie Pie’s help, but Pinkie may be in over her head with this royal order!

Still looking forward to the Siege arc, and the new Friends Forever looks like it could be a lot of fun. Celestia being a straightmare could mean that it'd be better than the issue teaming up Pinkie and Luna.

Celestia and Pinkie comic sounds fantastic.

This Crystal Empire story sounds great. Hope Cadance gets to play a major part of it.

Amazon toy listings have some shocking revelations.

Applejack and Fluttershy are going to become princesses! And also Cheerilee for some reason.

OK, so that probably means nothing. The reason I'm posting this here and not Community is that they also have a listing for a character named Coloratura, and I'm inclined to think that a new character name is less likely to be a mistake or reflect some weird toyline. Plus, coloratura is defined as "elaborate ornamentation of a vocal melody, especially in operatic singing by a soprano; a soprano skilled in coloratura", which makes me think that's the name of Lena Hall's character.

I like what I'm seeing with those comics. Looking forward to reading both of them!

Ah, that'd definitely make sense. Nice find!

Friendship is Magic issue #33 was much more enjoyable than the first half. It felt like there was much more energy throughout the issue, and they were actually willing to go really over the top this time. First of all, the vampire names for the characters were great in how dumb they were, including Twilight Sparkling. I also liked on that page Rarity finally finding a use for her cape. For some reason, I just loved Applejack randomly proclaiming that, "To fight monsters... I've become a monster," when confronting an apple. The page of Flutterbat arriving with vampire fruit bat support was surprisingly neat. When Spike was given the magic of the comet, I was expecting him to turn into an adult dragon again and fight the giant apple version of himself, but I guess a big flame is fine too. The long discussion on morality and such at the end fits in well with the B-movie setting. Twilight's line about wanting to come back later to see "what crop has sprung from the seed we planted" reminds me a lot of the Star Trek episode "The Space Seed". I'm guessing that means things will go to hell and we're getting a "Wrath of Khan" story later.

Latest issue had some fun moments, but not my kind of story really, and one of my less favoured artists too.

Ah well, can't all be winners.

My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic : Made in Manehattan
S05, E15
Air Date: September 26, 2015
Applejack and Rarity are called to Manehattan to solve a friendship problem; they find themselves helping Coco Pommel with a major project in her neighborhood, but the three soon discover that they've bitten off more than they can chew.

Oh wow, are we really going to have a gentrification episode?! ... Well, probably not. This makes for three Rarity episodes in a row, which isn't bad, but odd, though at least Applejack is joining in this time. It still amazes me that we went from the crew having no idea that Coco Pommel would be popular to her getting a focus episode in just one season, though there is an unusually large gap between this episode and "Rarity Takes Manehattan".

EDIT: BTW, I recently rewatched the season 3 premiere, "The Crystal Empire", and though a lot of the episode is a mess, I still think it's very underrated. There were a lot of interesting visuals, the adventure part of the story is neat, there were good individual scenes, and I even liked the songs. It does make me wish the show went more into the fantasy adventure aspect, though, and it reiterates how odd the way they handled the crystal ponies after this episode is.

EDIT: Just realized, this episode is airing on the same day as Friendship Games. That's a really weird decision.

Damn, Rarity trilogy? The Rarity sub-fandom really aren't going to be able to complain for a while after this.

I'm with you re: The Crystal Empire, too. I perspnally enjoyed it a lot, and while there are plenty of legitimate complaints, I feel it was worthwhile if only for all the neat Crystal Empire/Sombra mythos we got out of it.

I've always enjoyed Rarity so I can't complain too much about her taking the spotlight.

Also, count me in as someone who enjoyed The Crystal Empire despite it's flaws.

Friendship Games short #5 - A Banner Day

Even if it wasn't starring the worst character teaming up with Dougworld-exclusive background characters, this was a pretty lame short.

In other news, Daring Do's VA seemingly confirms that she's appearing in a future episode, though it may be in season 6. Though the way Daring Do became a "real" character wasn't exactly the best, I do feel that they should use her now that she is. I did always think that a Friends Forever comic teaming up Daring Do and Rarity would be good, with Rarity playing the role of Willie from Temple of Doom.

I just came here to apologize for bashing bronies online a few years ago. Honestly I don't understand the fandom, but I might have found it disturbing because all bronies I heard of were people who straight up said they had sexual pony fantasies.. So that was my impression of "bronies". I don't see anything wrong with just enjoying a cartoon, and although there are bronies who like the idea of pony sex (isn't that beastality?), they're not hurting me so it isn't my business to judge or shame someone (unless they go through with their fantasies!).

Hopefully this post came out as I meant it, not written very wrongly. I'm into 2D faceless tentacle monsterq porn but there is no way I could imagine it as 3D with real octopuses. So my point is, fiction is fiction. We all enjoy our stuff.

That being said, I'm interested in learning so I can understand better what a brony really is, if anyone can explain. Because I have a brony friend online and I want to understand so I can be a better friend and not just base it all on assumptions.

I'm sure you're forgiven. Love and tolerance and all that.

As for what a brony is, you'll get different answers for this. I mean, it's a made-up word, so there is no "official" meaning. I use it just as I would "trekkie" or "browncoat"; it denotes a person who is a fan of a particular thing. If you consider yourself a fan of MLP, you could choose to call yourself a brony.

If you've got any other questions, feel free to hit us up. Show's on hiatus at the moment, so we're not very busy in here.

I feel there is a certain irony to a people on a gaming message board complaining about bronies - especially those who have been her for years with hundreds/thousands of posts. Like, I know gaming is getting more popular and mainstream, but I still know plenty of people who would consider anyone posting on GAF as a basement dwelling virgin living with mom and dad. It wouldn't matter to them whether they only post in the off topic side or not - you are still doing a "kiddy" thing spending all day here.

I'm your friend. Were you talking about me? :p

Basically, My Little Pony started in the 1980's as a cartoon for girls which was not very good, and it scared away all the little boys while girls tended to use their imaginations and enjoyed it more, especially since it was "for them" when not much else on TV was. Since those days, it only got worse, so MLP as a franchise really scared the boys away.

When "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic" started, it got attention on 4chan's /co/ board because the reboot was being headed up by Lauren Faust, who is a great artist, and was a fan of the original show. People on /co/ watched the new show, enjoyed it, and word spread to the rest of 4chan, and from there, the rest of the internet.

Since the show was being watched by people outside of the target demographic (adult men on the internet), people wanted a name for this phenomenon, and settled on "brony" (bro + pony). Some adult women on the internet asked to have their own name (since they aren't "bros"), and they're generally called "pegasisters" (pegasus + sister), but other women are fine with just being called bronies (you don't really need a penis to be a bro). There are also apparently little girls who call themselves bronies, suggesting that anyone who watches MLP:FIM qualifies as a brony (and other little girls would argue against that).

"Brony culture" typically refers to fan interactions, mostly of the creative type. It can be cosplaying at a convention (I went to a Sailor Moon-themed anime convention a while back, and there were more people cosplaying as ponies than there were in sailor suits), or fanart on deviantart, or some people make music on youtube, while others try to find ways to "ponify" existing art. People even figured out the show's art style, and have managed to make fan-episodes that are almost indistinguishable from the real thing. And yes, there are furries who make porn. MLP has probably the healthiest and most active fanart community in America right now (and has for a few years).

Being a brony is basically no different from watching Sailor Moon (if you understand anime fandom, you probably understand pony fandom), but there's a large group of people (especially on GAF) who feel threatened by this behavior, so they look deep into the fandom and find the "weirdos" (like the large men who cosplay as Sailor Moon), point to them, and say "See, I knew you were all mentally handicapped and/or perverts and/or whatever the insult of the day is." I think MLP does tend to attract more than it's fair share of weirdos because it's "nice" when a lot of the world is not so nice to weirdos (which isn't to say that the fandom is always rainbows and sunshine, it has it's bad days too).

Details from EQLA panel with Lauren Faust. If you didn't know, this is the first time she's come to an MLP convention in years.

Two things I hadn't seen mentioned before that she cites as reasons she left the show are:
* Bad meeting rooms for writer meetings.
* Being forced to add Pipsqueak to "Luna Eclipsed". You know, the boy with the British accent and the pirate costume. This completely surprised me, considering that he never does anything again after that episode, and I hadn't realized that he was forced in by Hasbro in order to get more boys on the show.

There are other interesting things from the panel, including that Twist actually was supposed to appear more, but Hasbro didn't like her for whatever reason.

Larson admitted that he was surprised that he was chosen for more than one episode. Considering all of his episodes required Star Trek as research, he always hit a brick wall when Lauren would describe Discord as Q from Star Trek or other examples.

So MA Larson wasn't "the Star Trek guy", Lauren Faust was, he just happened to get all of the episodes where she wanted to nerd-out, and he was forced to play catch-up.

The next part of Equestria Daily's surprisingly good interview series, with comic writer Christina Rice. I'm not the biggest fan of her issues, but there is a lot of interesting stuff in the interview, including the fact that the Friends Forever issues with Rarity and the Cakes was actually the first one she wrote, but it was delayed due to all of the other Rarity issues in the pipeline.

EDIT: From EQLA, Tina Guo and William Anderson do a live recreation of Octavia and Vinyl's song from "Slice of Life".

Just came to post that Anderson/Guo video. Pretty great idea, though I wish the audience could've kept the noise down until the end.

Trailer for the second half of the season!

Nothing that really tells us anything, though I do notice that it looks like there's going to be a recurring theme of Twilight not actually getting sent on map missions, despite her interest in going on one.

As you say, not a lot to go on. Nice at least to have some signs of life after the break.

The Luna and Discord comic is amazing. Like "puts the show to shame with how they've handled Discord" amazing.

I can vouch for this, terrific issue.

Friends Forever #20
Yeah, this was a pretty great issue. I was expecting them to go in the direction that Discord feared that everyone was keeping him around because they wanted to control him, hence the dreams of being forced to get a job and such, but I am fine with this issue addressing him being afraid of actually caring for others. One complaint I do have is that it feels like Discord does care about what Twilight thinks, if to a much lesser extent than Fluttershy, so it felt off for his dream about her to be the same as with the others. I did like Discord and Luna deciding to become friends in the end.

The visuals were great, and the comedy was good too. A bit too many gags were just straight up references, but I did like the part where Luna asked if the Rarity dream was a reference to anything and Discord responds that it was more a reference to nothing. I found that first shot of Twilight in the two-page spread rather adorable, and the right size to use as an avatar. Am I really going to build up a collection of sleepy Twilight avatars?

I can also agree that the newest FF comic is great. It makes me almost wish it was an episode. Even a dramatic reading would be cool to hear. At the last convention I went to they had the VAs do a live reading of one of the comics and it was excellent, wish there could be more of that although I also understand why there isn't.

She looks like a mutant twin of that pony that was with Fancy Pants during his first appearance (Fleur de lis or something).

Man, they're really spoiling us with that one. Rarity and a dress? In a Rarity episode? I'm shocked.
So am I.

Fifteen days until Friendship Games yessssss.
I'm cautiously optimistic about it considering how much better RR was than the first movie. Hopefully my misgivings about the premise won't amount to anything.

Don't think there has been an episode revolving on Rarity and dresses for awhile, course this season hasn't had a Rarity-centered episode before the upcoming one.

I do hope it turns out well. Although yeah I personally think FG has a tough act to follow in RR, especially in the case of the villains. But we shall see.

Speaking of which. Might have to be careful checking the internet after September 17th.

Oh yeah, I'd almost forgotten that was coming so soon. Interested to see how it turns out.

Oh, sure. It wasn't so much a criticism of Rarity episodes or dress episodes (I've liked both) as it was the pointlessness of such a vague image. It'd be like posting Twilight with a book or AJ with an apple tree.

Yeah pretty pointless to consider that image a great tease at all.

Oh, we haven't actually had trailers for a while. It's tomorrow, so I'm not watching, but I'm guessing this is where the earlier screenshots came from.

So, over-under on Discovery Family airing this for every new episode, just like how every episode in the first half of the season was apparently about a town where everyone is equal?
