Hey guys,
So yea, my motherboard apparently died on me.
Back story:
I had a decent system, got it at the very end of 04:
ASUS P5AD2-E Premium Socket T (LGA 775) Intel 925XE ATX Intel Motherboard
Leadtek WinFast PX6800 TDH Geforce 6800 256MB DDR PCI Express x16 Video Card
Intel Pentium 4 550 Prescott 800MHz FSB LGA 775 Processor
2 x 1 gb of DDR2 ram
2 x 200gb SATA HDs in RAID 1
And my newly purchased Dell 2407 Widescreen monitor (Pretty!)
So anyway, I was play Deus Ex of all games (so its not really pressing on my system resources) and after a while the game froze. Rebooted, then got to the XP welcome screen and I couldnt do anything rebooted again and NOTHING!
The video card usually boots 1st and makes a tone. No Video, No Tone.
At this point Im freaking out hoping my data is still safe.
After 4 hours of testing different configurations and reseating everything in the case, I got video . Sorta.
Any of you guys had any cartridge based system (it happened a lot on my NES) where if the game is dirty or not sitting right, and the screen shows the game, but theres a lot of "garbage" on the screen (like underlines, and noise on the screen). Well that is what I saw on my screen. And it booted.. up until it got to the XP welcome screen, then the monitor when into standby. I tried a different monitor and got the same result.
I had a friend of mine (a former poster of GAF I believe) brought over his PCI video card and everything booted normally. It just seemed like it was the video card burned out or something.
So the card gets RMAs out to newegg, I buy a temporary card from bestbuy (PNY 7300 GS 256mb PCI-E 16x) and after a week, IT DIES!!!
Replaced the card for a third time from bestbuy and it worked for like 5 minutes then nothing again. So lo and behold it looks like the PCI-E slot is fed up!
The RMAs to newegg has only got my money back since they have nothing to replace it with. I still like ASUS, heck Im currently using my old P3 800MHz PC in my rigs place.
So I need a new motherboard that will support the rest of my gear, (on-board SATA RAID was nice).
This is what Im looking at now
ASUS P5N32-SLI SE Deluxe Socket T (LGA 775) NVIDIA nForce4 SLI X16 ATX Intel Motherboard
And I was thinking of changing my current PSU (500W) to this 550W Just to be safe, just in case it was that, that killed it. Plus these new MoBo's have 24pin on them and the one I have is a 20+4.
Thank for listening and any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance guys.
