My prediction: Perfect Dark Zero = GOTY

Gotta love it. Circle-jerk!

After Microsoft not giving it a show and every other credible big source says it kicks arse, you really really really have to wonder WTF happened. Until that is ratified, Perfect Dark Zero is a lost cause.

At least the most plausible GOTY was shown at E3 regardless of how it played.

The graphics may have failed to impress, but the overall polish of the game seems insane with:

levels that automatically grow or shrink based on how many users
armor and damage system
bots can disappear when more users join
tons of weapons all with secondary uses
vehicles
ability to jump and dodge roll
crazy amount of online options

and so many more...

I expect it to beat out Zelda and Spore in a close vote. That and it'll get some sympathy votes for how bad it got trashed at E3.

Well, none of those features are new to FPS. Not than FPS has to have something new to be GOTY, just pointing it out. Also, there is still the question of the games release. I DOUBT that PDZ will launch this year, as much as I wish it did. Also, I dont think spore is launching this year.

I wonder how much money MS has dumped into rare since they bought it for almost 400 million?

almost 4 years worth of paychecks & expenses for services at Rare's studios (electricity, maintenance, etc).

Consoles and PC fps are totaly different animals. 50 people online on a console fps is amazing.

A little off topic but did you guys see in the new EGM that Duke Nukem Forever is supposed to come out for the 360?

Zelda will probably have much better depth, but since PDO is a next gen game it might win on graphics alone. (yeah that's kinda sad, I know)

xboxcowboy makes a good case plus I think the game will look really sweet come launch. 65 players simultaneous online with all those features. Not saying that it will be goty but he makes a good case.

I don't know, the way they describe the single player is almost like Deus Ex; not to mention co-op, counter-op, challenge modes, and who knows what else. They've had a lot of time to pack this thing with content.

Assuming it looks drastically better next time it's shown that is. :lol

Not when each map is 10 times the size of Coagulation in Halo 2.

I personally prefer 2vs2 match types, more intense, less insta-deaths. 50+ players is going to be rediculous (both good and bad). Ah well, it's a good thing the levels change depending on the number of players, very smart design on Rare's part.

Variety >>> Size

I agree. Personally, I don't mind 6 maps simply because the sheer size of each map, there will be lots of variety in terms of combat situations (sniping locations, close combat, lots of space for vehicles etc. etc..)

But putting that aside, 6 maps has not been confirmed as the final map count for PDZ so I'll wait for official word on that.

What if there's variety within the larger maps?

We've seen the subway station; maybe that's just a small section of a larger city map where you can fight it out on the streets or up on rooftops and you can choose what section you want to limit the game to in smaller matches.

For a direct comparison I seriously doubt it'll top Battlefield 2 (PC) in most, if any of these categories. Let alone other genres that have or will have AAA titles representing them by the end of the year. But Id love to be surprised.

I don't care how big the maps are, 6 is too small a number. I like playing smaller games (4v4) in Halo and the smaller maps are the best. Big maps in FPS = annoying.

if there's only 6 maps, they better scale down when less people are playing. Not a big deal. :)

Bots leave automatically in UT2K4, iirc, and I'm sure other games do that too. What's the big deal?

And I'd rather have a jump button then constantly switching in and out of third person.

Huh? The maps do scale depending on the number of players; that's been stressed in just about every preview so far.

Welcome to PC gaming circa. 1998!

to bitch about the graphics is one thing, but to bitch about "only" 6 maps when you havent even played it is bad form.

by the time you get done with the single player, multiplayer co-op, and get tired of the 6 huge maps i'm pretty sure a little thing called DLC will be waiting in the wings.

Check out a little game called Area 51. :)

ability to jump and dodge roll

You won't be able to jump.

I agree about the weapons.

Anyone who thinks this game will make 2005 for release just doesn't know Rare. I had hopes, but after seeing the POS they showed a few weeks ago, there is simply no way that this game makes launch. I think it makes the launch "window" with a Spring of next year release.

This is Rare we are talking about. Anyone who swallowed the tripe of two Rare games being ready at launch is just an idiot... :lol :lol :lol

Mabye you missed every single article written up about the demo at E3.

:lol

Sonycowboy,

I think you should stick with predicting game sales.
Predicting good game quality is obviously not your forte.

After reading overwhelmingly positive impressions from almost every reliable source, id say you're right.

Both Kameo and PDZero will impress, and cement Rare's bitchslap to every hater. What a catch for MS

To be fair though, i have rarely read preview "impressions" that were not overwhelmingly positive for almost any game. It's the nature of previews.

But i don't think anyone can go down the list of features that PD0 will have and not come away with the impression that Rare is going out of their way to try and make the game the new standard as far as FPS are concerned.

I just hope to god that MS doesn't force Rare to make the "live mp" part of the game the most important. While i love a good online game as much as the next, it's the single player that i am most interested in and will make or break the game (imo).
