"My Xbox 360 Died and I Lived to tell the story" Official Thread

My "New" Falcon chip system just RROD'd...! I cannot believe this shit. I have NEVER had a console fail on me and esp one where I didn't do anything to cause a failure. I hadn't touched the system for weeks and suddenly when I power it on it fails. and Now I have no 360 for Xmas break, how lame

I would say yes as every box I checked at the local Best Buy contained a Jasper. Very easy to find.

I went through 4 360s at my local Best Buy, and they were all Falcons. I then went to GameStop, same thing there. I eventually gave up, with the MS 3-year warranty reassuring me, and went home with a Falcon. This was last Wednesday.

So I guess a better answer would be: it depends on where you live. I'm in a relatively small community in Northern Virginia.

EDIT: I was looking through only the Pro systems, too. Dunno if that matters too.

I've had my 360 since Thanksgiving of '07.

Okay, I think I just got RRoD'd but I'm not entirely sure... Its not a complete Red Ring. Just one part of the circle is blinking red and thats it. Its saying "E 74" and everything I've read regarding that suggests that its either the AV Cable or the GPU. I've already tried a different cable too, I really just don't want to send it in because I move around so much it'd be a task in itself just to get it back. The fact that its not even a 3/4 ring is whats bothering me though... I know 360's bounce back from the grave all the time and I really just want to make sure my baby is truly beyond saving before I do anything big. Any suggestions?

I don't know who the fuck ya'll have been talking to, but I've called in to get my repair like 7 times total since July and blew it off for one reason or another and they were never anything but courteous. Also after the first once or twice I swear I've gotten non-Indian operators too! Either that or they've gotten scarily good at hiding themselves.
When I called I spoke to someone in Europe, at the time I thought maybe Swedish, but could be German since the delivery address on the UPS label is in Germany.

When I spoke to them they were friendly, helpful, even apologetic that the console broke down, he was reassuring too. He said I got a month of XBL too, I'm guessing that's a code card that comes back with the console or something? Any way, that's a +1 for positive experiences with the MS helpline.

It matters. They're only in Arcades for the moment, probably because they have 256mb onboard. See this database to see how many Jaspers are Arcade vs. anything else.

Ok my Zephyr is back in warranty :D

What are the chances that i got a freak model that doesn't break? I don't have any signs of RROD (yet). The rear vents get a little warm during games but that's it.

All that effort and the entire time you were dig'n thru the wrong SKU's the whole time

My brother got an Arcade today, it worked fine downstairs then he moved it up to his room. He asked me to get it to work on his TV, and when I tried turning it RROD'ed.

I have little idea about 360 hardware, are there any possible fixes?

You sure that its not just a loose video cable?

Are you sure it's 3 lights and not 4? 4 just means there's a problem with the AV cable (not plugged in right or maybe set to HD and he doesn't have a HD set).

Also: 360 Customer support is a pain in the ass to talk to.

"Unfortunately we are happy to tell you that your 360 is back in warranty" (no i didn't hear it wrong, that is EXACTLY what he said :lol)

A couple weeks ago I started having a strange and very annoying problem with my 360.

Initially I had the system hooked up to a monitor via VGA cable. One day my monitor stopped detecting the system when I turned it on-- after lots of fiddling it finally detected it again, but the colors looked like they had dropped to 256 or something-- the picture looked terrible. I figured it was either my monitor or a loose cable, so I unplugged everything and switched to component cables on my HDTV. Again, the TV didn't detect the 360 at first. I checked to make sure all the wires were tight and properly in place-- they were. I tried several more times to get it detected by flipping the TV on and off, etc. Eventually it worked and the color seemed fine for a minute, then suddenly it switched back that ugly 256-color mess from before...

Anyone know what is happening? It seems like the system itself is 'working' but it's not outputting the video properly no matter what type of cable I use.

I got the 1 Red Light E74 error... so, I gotta haul my damn system back to Toronto to get it "fixed"/exchanged from Best Buy. Guh.

I'm just going to buy a Jasper Arcade after the holidays. Screw it.

MS just sent me TWO boxes to ship my 360 back in.

:lol

I screwed up my repair order and then immediately canceled it online before resubmitting it properly. I guess they didn't catch the first one? heh.

Has anyone tried or heard anything about this site?

The claims are certainly there. I've never heard any testimonials though.

That's what happened to me too, but it was their end who canceled.

It's been now officially a month. The box has been at their end since Friday. What are my chances of getting it tomorrow before Christmas?

Slim to none, I bet.

Yargh... was just woke up by brother telling me that I got RROD'd.. I had been playing Fable 2, which I got for Christmas, for a few hours tonight. And then he came home and played Halo 3 for a bit, then boom. :(

What a great Christmas gift... :(

Luckily he has one that I can borrow in the meantime.. no HDMI, though which is a bummer but I can deal.

And I was just thinking about buying a 60GB HDD before I went to sleep.

I installed Fable 2 to the HDD tonight, anyone hear any problems with game installations and RROD?

my 360 got a weird 3rl today.

i was playing mass effect and suddenly the screen got black and the 3 red lights apear. no artifacts, frozen screen, nothing.

i imediately turned off my console, wait for 3min and turned on again. It was all okay.

I played Mass effect for around 20 minutes doing everything I was doing earlier and no problem.

i shut down and waited for around 10 minutes, turned on again and i installed GRID on the HD, than i played a little.

no problem. no freezing, no artifacts nothing.

i know that 3rl can be a lot of stuff.

so i'm kinda confusing...

my xbox 360 is a falcon Halo 3 edition.

sorry about my english...

It's going soon, but not yet. It's probably safe to say that longer sessions in the future will eventually kill it.

define "longer".
A few days, months, it's hard to say. 3RL is related to Video/GPU issues. There's no guarantees that it's actually an actual RRoD with the warped board.

Just pretend it never happened. You'll sleep and game better, until it dies.:lol

Awesome.

e73, 1RL.

Spoke with an Indian person for 68:34 minutes. Most of that time was spent repeating my console serial number and home address ad nauseam. Probably 10-12 times each. I finally told her to get a pencil and some paper to write that stuff down.

They couldn't find me in the system, which is I assume why it took some many times repeating.

FINALLY, she finds my Xbox to be out of warranty. Now, she can't tell me what's wrong with it or how much it will take to fix. I ask, 'why in the world is that? Don't you know what your own hardware codes mean?'

Sorry, no. I need to transfer you to a supervisor. Then hung up.

68:34 minutes, no idea the repair cost, and one unplayable Xbox 360. Fuckers.

I may boot the fucking thing out the window into the lake right now. Then head to Best Buy.

Fuckers.

Why didn't you just use the website link?

I wanted to find out what was wrong with it. So I figured I'd call. Then it became a test of will. It cost me dearly.
Quick google:

E73: General Hardware Error: Ethernet port... this error is caused by a problem with the Ethernet port.

Do you have the wireless adapter or any other adapter plugged to the back of the system?

I did the same google search. No, I had none of those plugged in at the time.

Other sources online say the Ethernet chip diagnosis for E73 you see online is not accurate, and that it has something to do with the subsystem between the EDRAM and the GPU.

Who knows. I'll call back tomorrow.

EDIT - Update, Sunday morning.

I turn my 360 on this morning and am greeted with E73. I leave it running, with the intention of calling customer support back to see what repairs are going to cost me.

I get distracted for about 20 minutes, all the while my system is left on at the error screen. I return to the system being sort of 'off mode', with two flashing lights. (overheating) The left top, and left bottom. I turn the system off, and back on, and now it runs like a champ. No more E73! Played about 45 minutes of HL2 and everything runs great.

Problem solved, for now.

Just got my replacement 360 for a near-launch unit, and it looks like it's a shitty old Xenon, not even one of the new non-HDMI Opus boards :( . I can't believe they'd still be sending those out though. Gah! Does have a Benq drive though, so that's an upgrade.

This one should have a new 3-year RROD warranty at least, right?

Two entire weeks and it just got to the service centre and I bet I'll have to wait another two for Aus Post to send it back.

How long does it take the Australian service centre to fix a unit?

Do they automatically send me a box or do I have to request one? I've already printed my label out online.
Think about this for a second. If you were being sent a box, wouldn't they have sent the return label with it instead of asking you to print one out on Xbox.com?

No RRoD here, but my new Pro unit (less than a week old) occasionally likes to spit out the disc in the middle of a game.. which has happened a couple of times with brand new titles. Learning my lesson and installing the games to the hard drive, I guess.

Mine had the E74 error, called microsoft and they picked it up this monday, already in germany for repair today. I hope it get's back in 2 weeks or something...

Got mine back today, sent it out two weeks and a day ago. The date on it is November 2008 and it ain't got HDMI ()_:(), but oh well. Does this thing get a fresh +3 years RRoD warranty?

About to fire it up, I'm praying for a kitten.

Well...

I knew it was coming. And tonight, of ALL nights, it red ringed on me. I'm in the middle of my vacation and bought 4 new 360 games in the past week.

FUCK ME!

I'm going to send it off, and just printed off the shipping label. However, I'm not waiting. I'm going to buy an Elite 360 tomorrow since I already needed a bigger hard drive. However, how can I find one with that is the newest and latest model? There is no way in hell that I'm going through this again.

Also...anyone know how much a standard 360 trades in for these days? I'm definitely selling off the repaired unit once I get it back.

Has anyone confirmed finding a Jasper Elite anywhere?

I turned it on just now and got a black screen with a lot of white dots twitching around. My uneducated guess says the gpu is dead, and because I don't have the 3RL I imagine I'm not covered by any warranty?
