"My Xbox 360 Died and I Lived to tell the story" Official Thread

You know it's quality when the UPS lady knows exactly what size box I needed even before I told her it was for an Xbox. All I said was I needed to ship off a gaming system and she knew it was an Xbox. Even said it was the 36th she had shipped on in the LAST MONTH! I live in a small town in Ontario Canada so 36 in one month is fantastic.

Hugs and kisses to all of Microsoft. :lol

My 360 is supposed to arrive today. I'll post details about how it works and the manufacture date once it arrives.

Tried that site and got the same message. Also i'm in Toronto so why would it be taking more than a week.
How long ago did you receive the tracking number? It might not have been put into the system yet, but is valid. I had that happen with an Amazon order a few days ago.

Same here. Brought it to my local UPS Store and they knew exactly what to do with it.

UPS received Billing Info. 2nd Day Air? Thank you very much Microsoft. Does that mean I get my Xbox this Friday or the Saturday?

7 days ago. I don't see how Purolator can be taking so long. Especially if they send coffins from within my own city.

Got an email from Msoft saying it had arrived at their place in Germany. Bout sodding time, sent it a week ago. About another week left i'd imagine.

Yeah, I would definitely be making some phone calls man.

XBOX 360 Elite

Manufactured: 3/15/07

Purchased: 4/29/07 @ 11:02am at Gamestop for 479.99

RRoD (3 lights): 10/11/08 @ 11:00pm

Alright, I received my replacement 360 today (10/22-08).

The console I received is a refurb; Manufactured: 6/10/07

Additional notes/thoughts: They also included a 1month membership to Live for the inconvenience. This refurb came from the Mesquite, TX repair center.
Man this 360 is quiet when in just at the dashboard. I'll update this post when I finally throw Fable 2 in and play it a bit, but holy....

edit: The update I promised....Well Fable 2 is in, and it's definitely a 360 ;) I'm not sure why it was/is so quiet in the dash compared to my old one. Maybe since it's cleaner on the inside? Who knows, but it's not excessively loud when the game is in, just a 360--everyone should understand what I'm saying. I'm happy to be back in business, and I hope information I've provided is helpful for the purpose of the thread. Thanks to all who answered any questions I had and god speed to those waiting on their consoles to arrive.

It's always been quiet when in the dashboard.
I know how quiet it is at the dashboard, just wasn't this quiet before. Damn dude I've only been without mine for 11 days, I know what I'm talking about. -_-

edit: I just re-read this post and it sounds sort of mean. I wasn't trying to be that way, just trying to say that I know what my old one sounds like compared to this new one. As I said in the edit in the post before this one, I'm not sure why the difference since they are manufactured basically in the same time frame, but it's there. Maybe due to the lack of normal wear and grime that gets in there. Anyways sorry if I came off as a mean person or whatever. :P

Bought my 360 used at GS last november. It had a mfg date of 10/18/2007. I figured that it was a newer system and still had the warranty. Well today it went RROD. I called MS and they said that I was not the original owner of the console, so I was not entitled to the warranty. I could send it to them for $99 to repair it.

I went down the GS right after that, traded in my RROD system and a few games I dont play anymore. I got $60 for the dead system(yay for bonus trade in on systems) and after trading in some games(along with the games packed in with my new system) I left with a brand new Arcade unit for $85. Better than sending to MS, I also get a new controller, a memory card, and a warranty. Now the question is how much of a pain in the ass is it to make all my DLC work off my hold HD with the new system? All I have done is setup my network again and tested some live arcade stuff...Rock Band is tomorrow.

Gamestop offers no warrenty on their used systems?
That's bullshit.

My 3rd damn red ring in the past 3 months...

This time it was my 2nd elite, piece of shit system.

XBOX 360 Elite

Manufactured: 06/26/08

RRoD (3 lights): 10/23/08 @ 5:30am
No video, no green lights show up at all on the front of the system.

^ That's another Falcon death by RROD. Mine gets here tomorrow... let's see

Its actually my 2nd falcon to red ring, I can't believe how many systems I've gone through, i just don't get it. Spent more money on this console than any other and get screwed over the most.

How many systems are you on Timan? When did each of them die / what killed them?

Hey guys my 360 is scratching my discs. It's not to the point where they become unreadable, but it bugs the hell out of me. I think my 360 (a falcon manufactured in November of '07) has the crappy DVD drive (Hitachi?) in it. I'm thinking about buying a new 360. I was wondering if the Jaspers were readily available yet and if they have a better DVD drive, and what store offers the most painless return policy when I get an extended warranty. (I really regret not getting the extended warranty from Walmart now, :lol).

Hey GAF, my 19 day old 360 gave me the dreaded RROD last night from a cold start. I turned it off and tried 2 more times and the same 3 flashing lights. I decided to unplug everything out of the back and then replace and try again. Seemed to do the trick. It seems fine, but is it really? With it only being 19 days old, I probably should just go back and exchange it. Even if it seems to be normal the RROD will come back again, correct? Just wanted to hear everyone's opinion on it.

So I'm left waiting for my 360 to arrive again (It was "repaired" before and arrived DOA) and it was a a launch model Core. What are the chances of getting a replacement one and is there any chance of it being a falcon?

It's been 3 days with no update :(

I'm getting rid of system number 6 in about an hour (a falcon at that). It is showing graphical oddities while playing Midnight Club, of which I did not have 2 days ago. The graphical oddities are the symptoms some of you have said usually leads to a red ring.

I have the best buy warrenty, so it is all good. I've been wanting to get a 60 gig system for a while now anyway...

I sent off my step dad's 360 today. Anyone got a ballpark figure for the numbers of days it takes to get a repair done in Australia? I'm in WA and the address I was to send the unit to was in NSW, so... I couldn't even guess how long it'll take to get there and back.

When my first unit died in the UK a courier picked the machine up on the Thursday and a new unit was dropped off the following Tuesday. Which was a lot quicker than I was expecting. Hopefully I'll be suprised again this time.l

Did you look at your power supply? Falcon's Power Supply is prone to make the console RROD.

Yep, idiot on the phone walked me through the psu stuff. Seems its ok. I just went ahead and bought another Arcade unit (freeeeeee sonic tennis). I now own every damn xbox, kinda sad.

Elite (broken, dropped off at ups this morning), premium (broken), arcade brand new hotness.

I gotta stop spending money on this system, but it had to break on fable2.

Just a heads up for those with the Best Buy extended warranty. They now are having their asshole Geek Squad check the system you bring in and validate the problem. Mine gave me graphical artifacts for the first time this morning. I went in there and decided just to tell them it was the Red Ring like I had before. They still plugged in the system and gave me a little bit of hassle until the graphical artifacts came back on the screen..

So they are making it a little harder to just dump your system on them now, even with the extended warranty.

I feel bittersweet because I just lost all my game saves because of the new upgraded 60 gig hard drive (I had a 20 gig before). I did get a box that had 2 free games in it though (Indiana Jones Lego and Kung Fu Panda).

You know you can transfer all your data to the new HD with the transfer cable?

I know that, but I was already pissed that they were questioning my return when I had already paid extra for the extended warranty. Then they started talking about some extra charge to transfer the content... I decided it was not worth it.

At least it will make all my games fresh again. The biggest loss of data I have is my Too Human character...

Edit: Received mine back. Manufactured in September 2006 :(

So:
Manufactured: September 2006
Received: December 2006
Failed: October 2008
Reason: Graphical glitches (was going to RRoD)
Refurb Manufactured: September 2006
Refurb Received: October 2008

So, they say mine is repaired, but the machine is doing the whole process of Xbox again. Like.. update, system language, etc.

EDIT:
I just read my box says... FALCON COR and that it shipped from Mesquite TX. WTF

Veredict: Definitely the same Xbox. DVD Drive is a Ben Q, and fans are the same, quiet as heck, Manufacture date the same and also the serial code. Box said FALCON COR.

Really, turnaround time was 1 fucking week, color me VERY surprised. I am quite happy with the support :D

Got my xbox back. Same serial number and it still had residue from being dusted for fingerprints after my house got busted into. It's super quiet now; way quieter than when I sent it in.

Add another casualty here. Mine just died of RROD.. my 2nd system.

I had one replaced after about a month of getting it in early 2007... and it lasted for more than a year and half, then just went into RROD... :(

going to call MS for a replacement... hope it will be less problematic from now on.
I kinda wished that mine would break someday, because it's a non-hdmi model, my wish(?)'s been granted. :D

Guys, I checked the status of my system today and they put my email address as my carrier tracking number. I went to the UPS.com site and pasted the tracking number on the label I printed out and it says its not supported! WTF did they give me a wrong tracking!

My Drive is sightly nosier now though. My Falcon was dead quiet. Now the DVD Drive emits an annoying, high-pitched buzzing sound when loading that annoys me to no end. It's working perfect though.

You will still get a Non-HDMI dude =/

Is it really? Damn! :( Oh well, what can I do besides run out and to buy a brand new one. ;)

Well, I just left the machine off for some time, and it seems its working fine. I had a minor power surge earlier today while I was watching some DVD on HD-DVD module, it caused to go into RROD a couple of times. Perhaps it's just a temporary thingie, related to the power supply unit or whatnot. I'll see if this problem persists in even semi-regular basis (meaning next time I play anything) - I guess I"ll have to call them.

The second Xbox death for me: a UK launch Elite, a 90nm one with the "hotfix" for the GPU cooling issue. I cast level 4 force push in Fable 2 and the graphics chip died :lol

One red quadrant, E74 error, so that's that. It's out of warranty and I can't wait a month for repair, so I'll have to buy a replacement. Feel a bit like a sucker doing so.

I just returned the 20GB HDMI 360 I purchased about 3 weeks ago. Games would freeze about a minute in, so I just gave up and returned it for a full refund. I wanted to exchange it - I was really getting into Gears of War 1 - but they didn't have any 20gb units left. I'll wait for a holiday Gears 2 package, hopefully those will be Jasper units.

FINALLY got my coffin. Almost exactly 2 weeks later and here's the kicker. It was shipped from within my own city. From an address that I could probably get to in 30 MINUTES using public transportation. How the hell does that happen?
