.....Can someone explain what happened today? I just heard about this from a bajillion twitter posts.
My name is on a microchip on the rover on Mars.
A lot of people here did that if I remember right? So cool to think about.
The touchdown was a bulls-eye, but my god, the missed high fives. Honkey town usa. Whatever, when you can land a car on mars with a fucking skycrane, you can miss all the terrorist fist jabs you like.

What accent is that?
Boss scientist overlord, I'm thinking German
With the money we (Europe and US) spent on Iraq and Afghanistan there could have been a permanent base on the moon and we might be close to sending people to Mars. Such a damn shame.Obama has not been good for NASA to be honest.
I'm 12 and what is this? Can someone explain what happened today? I just heard about this from a bajillion twitter posts.
I was wondering why SkyCrane wasn't being repurposed after touchdown. Maybe no monieswhen they go to decommission Curiosity, I think they should find the Skycrane so they can be together again.
Sounds like the Greek side of my family. I don't really know. What accent is that?

Doubling funding for NASA would be the least amount of support you could give to further not only the American people, but the entire human race. Not only would it cement the US's role in future space exploration, but it would be a grand opportunity to reach out a strong and steady hand to all other countries in joining together as one to ensure a rich and fulfilling future for us all. It is time for us as a country to evolve past wars and petty politics and realize how important NASA and its developed technologies have been and will be for us all. Transferring even a bit of funding to NASA would go a long way in rallying the American public. You must strike while the iron is hot, lest we devolve into bashing each others heads in over greed and cultural differences. Thank you very much for your time in reading this message from a concerned citizen.

It's barely been an hour, man. People need patience.Did they show footage of the actual landing?
Or once it landed, they showed footage?

Less than $7 p/citizen? Goddamn
And yet, people still want to chop NASA's budget more.
"we're missing about 20 people. ... apparently, they've all taken to the hotel and put Do Not Disturb signs on their doors."

Ugh, the whole "ONLY AMURICA CAN DO THIS" line was kinda annoying.
At least he kinda acknowledged the international involvement.

We seriously need some sort of nasa kickstarter to ride on the hype of this event.
If we can raise half a million dollars to send a bus monitor on vacation, imagine how much could be raised for space exploration.
