I want a privately funded Project to beat NASA to MARS for landing a human, because I really don't trust the government to support these guys fairly

I mean the goal is for 2030? fuck that

Ugh, the whole "ONLY AMURICA CAN DO THIS" line was kinda annoying.

At least he kinda acknowledged the international involvement.

The U.S. does what a lot of countries don't.

I just wish I could direct where my tax money went to because a huge chunk of it would be going to NASA.

yeah, made me cringe as a non-American. especially considering it's not entirely American made.

but whatever... exceptionalists gonna exceptionalize i guess.

But it was all American funding, the America bashing needs to stop. Every damn thread about the USA gets the same Non-Americans looking to bash us.

??? Why?
Is America not supposed to be proud of anything it's doing?

it's possible to be proud in a more humble way, ie not taking ALL of the credit yourself.

all of the information America will get about Mars' atmosphere with Curiosity will be thanks to Finland (the instrument used being Finnish design). you're welcome...

Normally I'd be annoyed, but if it helps to get the USA USA Republicans on board for more funding, then I'd say keep it up.

oh yeah i agree, everyone forget i said anything lol.

Well, has anyone else done this yet? he is correct at this point until another country does this.

Did I say that it shouldn't be proud of anything? Of course America can and should be proud of this. Hell, I am proud of America for doing this.
But this operation wouldn't have been like this without international help, would it?

PR guy is gonna PR. Yeah, it's annoying (as an American myself) that they just refer to other countries as "our partners", but that's how you get more funding in today's world.

good job aerospace engineers! ...but id rather increased budgets go to high risk schools instead of space stuff in the near future.

It was probably the I'm not going to name those other countries involved because they couldn't have done it without us bit. I don't mind it.

Without the damn skycrane, that Finnish instrument would be buried in the dirt on Mars. You're welcome.

The first guy that talked in this press conference credited the four countries and the countries involved in deep space monitoring, so just quit your fucking whining.

It was really a cry for money lol

NASA is one of the greatest scientific organizations on the planet but it's so under funded

To be honest though, we could use some nationalist pride to get the American public to give a damn about the space program again. It's really the only way the space program will take flight again (pun intended).

Exactly. So, please, cool it with the Anti-American stuff. Let us have this victory!

The briefing is really touching. Please send these guys some damn money christ.

As for all the bashing on American praise, how else are they going to make money from their own home country? Yeah its pretty unethical but due to their low budget throwing in some words of extended praise is worth it imo.

Haha yeah, laying it on a bit thick when dude after dude was saying the same thing. I chalk it up to giving a verbal middle finger to the American government and proving they're worth it, which is fine by me if that's what it takes.

A bit saddened by the USA-bashing here. I'm not always the US's biggest fan but they certainly deserve the limelight today.

While this stuff is sorta cool, is anyone else worried that we may be offending God by treading on holy ground?

They don't give a fuck, it happens in every thread about the USA. They go out of their way to make sure they troll.

There, they just thanked specific countries you Non-Americans, happy?

As a whole, I think Americans have been genuinely interested and gracious towards other space agencies' accomplishments (ie Cassini and Mars Express and all the international work at the ISS)
