It makes me happy to see kids in the audience and hearing from them in Taiwan being excited and into this. Fuck yes! I dreamed about this shit as a kid. Makes me tear up to still see not all kids are little shits only caring about stupid reality "stars".

Why are people talking like they didn't acknowledge other countries? They fucking DID. Get over it.

it may become a greater issue because we are talking about it it just means these guys did not do a good enough job acknowledging the other countries

the French reporter will be writing pages on this topic lol

i don't think anyone was being "anti-American" (ridiculous term) or bashing USA as a whole... just annoyed by that one guy who said something like "only America can do this", implying that Americans are exceptional humans compared to the rest of us.

BUT sorry for shitting the thread a bit, i'll stop now. just that one guy was a douche, not all of America... i'm sure you understand how non-Americans don't like being told we're inferior. especially when we helped built essential parts of the rover, and have helped with previous NASA efforts.

i'll say it again though: GOOD JOB NASA. and goob job America for giving NASA enough funding to do this (i wish ESA got as much funding). next up James Webb Telescope.. may your good fortune continue.

Again, we funded this shit 100 percent, WHEN your country steps up to do this kind of shit, come back and say this. And yeah, it was America bashing, it is an especially European thing to do these last few years, it is like a right of passage.

The RAD was funded by Germany and the DAN was funded by Russia. And that's just coming from a cursory glance at Wikipedia.

Wikipedia, really? got some better source? Other then that you cannot seriously deny this was overwhelmingly funded by Americans.

Wikipedia has 136 sources listed in their MSL article. Believe it or not, they actually require that their authors don't make shit up out of thin air.

That old dude reporting for a space science publication was shamefully embarrassing.
"Where's the shadow?" are you f'ing kidding me?

This about sums it up and should end this discussion.

That's fine and all. Still, this mission wouldn't be the same without international involvement. That's all we're saying and it does not automatically mean that we're badmouthing anything the US did. Of course, this was a great achievement for NASA and, consequently, the United States of America. Just don't forget that there are others, too. That's all, really.

now you're just being an ass.

and when talking about funding and money, don't forget who pretty much funds your country.

i think we all should really just thank China, don't you think? :)

Nice

What an awesome evening. Been watching Space Brothers all day and now the Mars landing.

Hope they find some interesting discoveries. I wonder what the discovery threshold is to accelerate efforts to land someone on Mars? I mean, if Curiosity finds observable organic life, think we could take some of that military budget and begin planning a human mission to Mars?

And they thanked the countries, did you forget that part? No matter how much you want that recognition this was an American undertaking.
