Naughty Dog Exmployee: "Palworld Was Made Nefariously"

These dev responses remind me of the ones about BG3. A lot of these people just need to stop saying anything at all, especially on a public platform.

Sarcasm is dead on the internet, cause y'all are too stupid to see/read it.

I thought only redditors in r/Palworld are the idiots, and then you post it on GAF and the replies are the same too.

Wait, what? He was being genuine with the way he said it? That was line-by-line sarcasm, because the only other explanation is that the person who wrote it is stupid and lacks self-awareness, and the way it's written could only have been sarcasm, unless he's really, really that stupid.

GAF awaits your apology.

When it takes you 4 years just to add the word "Remake" on the cover of the game and have no game to show for another 2 years probably if not more....... Yeah its you who sucks bud. not the palworld team.

and so WHAT if they use AI ? at least we would have an engaging NPCs . better than the one liner crap that doesn't make any sense if you try to engage in a conversation with them.

nothing wrong to use AI to create art too.. obviously better than you dude who is a senior artist and crying about a game that is a successful.

a True woke warrior. purple hair and shit, doesn't work and just negative talk on twitter.

Yes, I apologies to everyone I called stupid, I was the one being stupid.

I would have personally spoken those exact words that person wrote in a sarcastic manner, I didn't imagine anyone could be that stupid to write it genuinely.

All good bro. I was just giving you shit. :messenger_beaming:

Pretty sure the new "remaster" they just released was a bit more nefarious in every regard compared to Palworld. Making games is hard, yes, although it seems easier to re-release the same game again and claim its new. Good example of projection in that tweet.

but palworld gained so much traction because pokémon, otherwise those sales would have been impossible.
If naughty dog creates a cheap mp game we don't know if it will be succesful.

Well, they had one MP game in development for a while. No idea about the budget. But it never came out, so we'll never know.

Salty Dog because another dev figured out how to capture the zeitgeist of the gaming populace with a FRACTION of their typical budget.

lol they have been sitting around jerking off for the last 4 years making remakes and remasters while other devs are making real games. They are so detached from reality at this point that they can't accept other devs making games quickly.

Nd devs need to stfu and show us a next Gen game already. No one cares what they think. No one wants to hear from them. Get off twitter and go make a next Gen first party game that justifies the $500 purchase. That's literally your only job.

Rule #1 of GAFClub. Never apologize to Topher Topher .

The seething is funny, but I have seen enough "breakout successes" like this to know that the game is going to implode from its own success.

Edit: Nvm.

To answer your question anyway, because I'm equally baffled that he actually meant what he said, if I personally wrote down the statement "My gut is telling me Palworld was made nefariously." it would be to mock those currently-unfounded-claims of stealing assets or using AI. Or I would say "Making a game is so difficult, they're cheating somehow" to mock those who are calling the game an asset-flip or a soulless cash grab.

And I really thought it was good sarcasm too...

To be fair, when someone says something too stupid or absurd it's not that far fetched to assume it's sarcasm.

But the way he worded that first sentence did feel just stupid to me without a reference, hence why I think that, if his intention was to be sarcastic he would have needed something else there to make it a little more obvious (specially on Twitter, where stupidity and arrogance are so common traits).

Naughty Dog is creatively bankrupt and is in rehash/remaster mode. People enjoy the Palworld gameplay loop. I don't know anyone who enjoyed a ND game for the gameplay. It's largely forgettable filler to get to the story.

A seething, malding, creativity-fucking-bankrupt team that hasn't made a new IP in over a decade.

I'm (not) sorry a team of 40 people completely overshadowed your $10 upgrade patch.

yeah, cut the devs some slack after The Last Hope dead zone survival horrors each an every naughty dog employ is probably on the edge of their seat
I'm mean they were almost taken down by this masterwork

Lots of people? The MP mode in TLOU still has a player base. They just released a roguelite mode for TLOU 2 and it's incredible. Pure gameplay.

He is probably mad there aren't any Trans pokem- I mean Pals.

Classic NeoGaf though, using something one guy tweeted to shit on a whole studio. A Legendary Studio even.

I love the fact that Naughty Dog employees know they spend 200+ million on their games and Palworld is running circles around them.

They're nervous, jealous, and salty.
Years ago there was an article at Kotaku, I think it was related to an outsourced dev working on DNF. He had an interview with 3DR related to making some meshes for guns. It went something like this:

- How long it will take you to do the work?
- 3 days.
- Wait, we thought 3 months…

TLOU2 sold 4 mil the weekend it released. Palworld sold 5 mil. TLOU2 sold for $60 and Palworld for $27.

One game had a budget of 200M+ and a huge marketing push, and one had a 7M budget and no marketing at all.

What do you think was a more profitable venture?
Also for all the copies sold at retail the dev probably takes 10-15%, Palworld takes 70%.

Amid this success, the game has sparked debates about plagiarism and the use of AI-generated content, with a developer from Naughty Dog claiming that Palworld was created nefariously.
  • Palworld's ability to break so many records has made it the subject of controversy.
  • Many believe the game's foundations have been built on plagiarism.
  • A developer from Naughty Dog also chimed in, claiming that the developers are cheating.

Whats nerfarious is releasing the same game over and over again.

LOU1 was launched on PS3, and then remastered and remade on PS4 and PS5.

For you gamers itching to get PS6 in 2027 or 2028, get ready for: LOU Part Uno: Here We Go Again Edition.

Giving these game devs a platform to complain about everything and anything was one of social medias biggest flaws.
On the plus side, it's often skewed to tech workers who seem to enjoy telling the world their personal life issues or how bad their boss is at work. If you google it, Nestle has about 275,000 workers in the world. And so does the US video game employee count at 268,000. I dont know accurate that is, but I'm just going by a google search results.

Given how much junk is said on social media from employees, the number of stupid tweets is probably like 1000:1 by video game employees compared to Nestle employees.

So game makers have the privilege to not give what the people wanted, it's 2024, what kind of privilege is that? it's irrelevant.

and so WHAT if they use AI ?
The criticism is that they used AI with Pokemon data as the base. Like basically fed the AI system a Pikachu, then gave it a few commands to change it slightly. Which if they did, if they have enough Pals, even with the variances it should be obvious it's just plagiarized Pokemon.

Nintendo is gonna have to do it's homework, or we are about to see a bunch of Nintendo clones.

Where the code is different, the gameplay is different, art is different, but you can tell it all originated from a particular studios content.

Ngl, with the way Palworld ripped off Pokémon, it sorta feels like they had access to older Pokémon source code. Then when we look at characters, the similarities to Pokémon again is shocking. We already know ai-generated "art" is not new and does in fact steal the work of other artists. That being said, game freak has themselves to blame due to their serious lack of innovation. Their games are like 3 gens behind technically so the market opportunity was open.

I get the Palworld hype but for me, the game is not good at all. I mean the gameplay loop is not it at least for me. I don't know if it'll have staying power but what it proves is that there's strong thirst for innovation in the Pokémon formula.

If Nintendo doesn't find a way to sue, their other entities will be ripped off. Personally speaking, ai generated content that used other artist work as a base for training the model is straight plagiarism.

I honestly thought the same thing upon reading it the first time. "They must be cheating somehow" is so hilariously dumb that it had to be tongue-in-cheek, right?
