NBA 2K6 screens and video

That milky sheen is very close to it really looks. Doesnt look odd at all to me.

Except it doesn't look like that...

I think your pic makes it readily apparent that the lighting on the players in 2k6 is just completely off.

Well, I can't say what they would say, I can only say what I say... that being I don't like the way the lighting on the players look. It just looks whack to me for some reason. They look milky and sorta like they have 15% transparancy on them of something. You guys honestly don't see that? Weird.

It looks very realistic to me, so much so that i wonder if they really look like that in real life, and they do. Almost in the same fashion when i saw shadows in some stadiums that have that weird 3-4 shadow look to it, and it really does look like that. Lighting rules the day and that what makes 2k6 look great.

To each his own I suppose... but something about that lighting on the players really looks wrong to me.

P.S. I should add, that funky lighting is on the basketball as well (and makes it look just as bad, imo)...

It's like some kind of glossy, milky, 15% transparency effect. I think someone above said it looked like "glaze" and that's a pretty good way to describe it I guess.

Yes its a bit off but very close to me. Its NEVER goinna be perfect, there are like 15+ light sources on a basket ball court, and they HAVE to fake em at this point in the game.

I think it just needs tweaking on getting a stronger sense of light from one direction (like in the real picture someone posted)....if that's possible (dunno much about game development). I don't think it should be too hard I guess. But otherwise I think it's looking pretty good to me. :)

Didn't i read somewhere where each arena has thier own type of lighting that affects the lighting in-game? If so i'm sure some arenas will seem very moody and some extremely bright...the real pic shows Chicago's lighting, i know MSG has a whole different type of migthing, almost dim/orange in appearence...

While I love the graphics and the detail, I also have to agree here. The sweat/glaze/sheen effect is pretty clear to me. Doesn't detract from the overall look, but it is odd.

It still looks far better and more believable, if not neccesarily real, than Live.

:lol @Malley...

And Cloudy, you used to defend the no def. stance button decision to hell and back in years past, but now it's about freaking time? roofles

We all know, This game will beat Live when it comes to ratings, I can't think of a recent live game thats beat Sega's 2k NBA games.

Gameplay is better, graphix are better.

Live's sweat makes the players look like they are bleeding to death, no facial expressions, game play looks jumpy. Overall looks like shit. some of it looks good. but mostly looks like shit.

I have maybe 1 or 2 nit picks about 2k6 but nothing really big enough to mention. everything looks great though. I cannot wait to see how it really is.

I guess I may also be biased to though, I loved 2k games since 2k3. Played 2k3 until i bought 2k5. Thought both were awesome.

I don't know about that... from the HD vids of Live it looks pretty amazing. And this glaze look on the players in 2k6 instantly suspends any notion of belief for me. It's like all the NBA players went to Krispy Kream's and took a bath in their sugar glaze they use on donunts. So I personally give Live the graphics edge (animations no doubt go to 2k6 though).

Here's more of that glaze on the players I'm talking about; it's a pic of Michael Finley, one of my favorite players in the league. If you honestly (not you J2 Cool, speaking to anyone who can't see it) can't see it after this pic, then I can't help you see it... but I personally do not like its effects... (also note how it's on the basketball as well)...

How long do you guys think it'll take for them to get the jerseys right? Im not bashing either game, Im actually highly impressed and thankful 2K is pushing the envelope.

Im just wondering how long it'll be till its more realistic and wuts holding it back.

So anyone find it kinda odd there hasn't been anything but replay vids from 2K instead of real gameplay vids like we've been getting for weeks from Live?

Gamespot had a gameplay demo on their live show last week.

Five minutes in, enjoy. Looks amazing by the way.

thanks!

Leagues confirmed NBA2k +1

that Rob guy seems cool.

from what I could see 2Ks presentation looks a bit disappointing. I think I was expecting something more along the lines of what NFL2k5 did. then again I could care less about the presentation but at least they are still doing a little something to show life in the crowd and at the concession stands, etc.

also the crowd seems to be a bit too excited all the time. there are lulls in games but it looks like these crowds are always standing and waving their arms.

You mean the angular, bouncy looking cloth animation or the actual detail? Because I think the detail is pretty nice if you ask me.

The animation were seeing now is a decent approximation, but Im going to guess its going to be awhile before we see truly realistic cloth simulation for ten uniformed players on screen, thats gonna take a robust physics engine with a boat load of processing power...maybe PS4/Xbox 720 ;).

The cloth physics are affected by the sweat. The longer the play, the less the clothes move. I am buying this for its pure, WOW LOOK AT THAT SHIT factor.

^ Live doesnt have those kind of expressions...

Holy crap, the passing animations and running is so good. Anybody else impressed by the 2k6 gameplay video?

While you wait for the X360 2K6, play the current gen version which features the same awesome animation and gameplay. :)

yes, the animation and little things you saw in the video is in the current gen 2K6 game. The graphics are just better on 360. I'm done with my 2K6 season on Xbox and will be trading it in when I win the GAF NBA season for 360!

I dunno, I felt the video was a mixed bag. The jersey animations looked very good in addition to the awesome looking players. But the presentation elements of the game appear to be a carbon copy of the current gen versions. The animation and herky jerky transitions for different moves looked current gen also. I am curious to see if the exploits in regards to the steals and artificial ways to create pressure are fixed. I want to know if the post moves are more clearly defined and responsive in terms of the execution. I want to know if the dual player control is more refined(sometimes players go in the wrong direction). Watching the footage and reading interviews show that the framework of current gen was ported over as evidenced by the whole look and feature set of the game. As a vet of 2K6 with over 150 ranked games under my belt, I am slightly worried about it being the same game (glitches and all) with prettier graphics. The whole new engine in Live has me wondering if EA finally gets sim. b-ball right. I will give Live and 2K6 a rent, but in the end I see myself going with 2K6 as Live has been a dissapointment ever since Live 95. Good find though on the video. I was happy to see some in game footage.

just saw the gamespot vid (thanks btw), all you EA whores can stfu, as 2k6 bitch slaps live in gameplay as well now. officially.

:)

The lighting *is* a tad off, but it still looks great. 90% of the time you won't be looking at these models, anyway.

You played both the 360 versions?Do tell...

obviously i'm talking about the graphics. so much for vc only showing replay angles cause the game looked weak in gameplay, huh?

Your post made no mention of graphics,it said gameplay...and since I had to stream the 2K footage I couldn't tell much, but it looked very similar to the Xbox version as far as how it plays,I don't own Live, but I have watched my friends play it and Live on 360 looked like a totally different game...now go ahead and call me an EA whore and dismiss my opinion
when what I said is in fact a totally unbiased observation :)

i started the sentance with "just saw the gamespot vid". i thought it was self-explanatory.

and i dont believe i mentioned anyone by name. struck a nerve?

You made that comment to me,which implies that I was some how dissing VC because I hadn't seen any gameplay vids...;)

Yes, you are bias if you think Live looks like shit. Live looks photoreal from gameplay angles which you can't say about 2K6 and that's what truly matters. The lighting in Live is amazing; it's too bad no one will give the evil EA it's due. Most people had concluded 2K6 would look better even before gameplay movies were even seen.

Do you happen to know where a high quality video that goes toward proving this is? All the Live videos I've seen have either been very low quality.

I've just been watching the ign high quality ones. I can't see much in the gamespot stream because of the video quality but ign has ultra clear high res versions of Live. I'll reserve judgement until I see high res version of gameplay of 2K6.
