NBA 2k6 (X360) - 1up.com review

that is ridicuolous. 2k6 looks the best out of any launch game, closest to cg

while ingame live i think has a slight edge. there is no way anything touches the replays of 2k6
I honestly could care less about replays. I can't remember the last time I ever watched a replay... I just hit the button to skip it and get back on D! :D Give me better in game graphics, and save the time spent juicing up the replays, anyday.

And there's been two reviews (And the HD videos, which I've always believed have shown) stating 2k6's graphics aren't even up to Live 06's levels, let alone the other launch titles. I've had this discussion in two other threads though, where I made that known there, so I won't drudge through that again (but believe me, I feel redeemed now that the two reviews are verifying what I've said all along).

If 2k6 thought their gameplay was perfect and didn't want to change it, then they should of at least came with the big graphical WOW for this next gen. Instead, they didn't do either. That's ok for you?

So it just comes down to the graphical wow factor? That is my problem with the "review." And graphically 2K6 hardly looks shitty to me. The horrible animation transitions are enough to kill any of the realism Live's better graphics bring to the table for me imo. Ugh, it just looks bad in the videos, and has always been a huge problem with Live. Why didn't EA fix this with their new engine??? First thing graphics wise I would have fixed if it was me.

I thought that's why we all hated EA (?).

I thought it was because EA did this year after year? 2K6 is still this years version. Live was forced to do something different because of being an inferior product, not the other way around. 2K6 already has excellent gameplay, so I don't see why they would want to make drastic changes to it?

1up: please have Matt do the Live review. After reading his remarks in the Live vs. 2K6 preview, and then the 2K6 "review..." I really want to see how he would score Live in comparison.

Im sorry, I thought the name of this game was NBA 2k6. EA did that shit year in year out with New titles...big difference in what your talking about...You'd have a point if it was named NBA2k7 but it isnt.

It's very odd that some people think 2K looks a lot better than Live, or vice versa. It boils down to perception I guess.

People really sould play both before making such blanket judgments though.

Agreed. If you read the roundtable where comparisons are made between Live and 2k, the difference they keep referring to is the suspension of disbelief that comes from playing Live due to the "sum of its parts", not just graphics. They refer to the stadium and fan realism, and the way the audio plays a part in drawing you into a real, live, NBA experience. 2k6 is a port job with tweaks plain and simple, and EA drew criticism during the ps2's early days for porting up the psone versions of their sports titles, and they have learned their lessons. The 360 version of NBA Live is based on an entirely new code base.

Essentially, NBA Live doesn't just look more next gen, it is a more next gen EXPERIENCE.

Yeah, I hear ya... and yeah, it bothers me too. I'm actually hoping it gets better, as I read one review mentioning it was. I'm not saying it will be, just saying I hope it won't be too bothersome.

This is one of those tricky deals.. the game is not only going up against Live, it's also going up against its former self. Then you have the fact that it's on a next gen system, which automatically means a reviewers' mentality is to judge it much harsher, in a way leaving headroom for the future; and then we have the problem that the game isn't really all that much different than it was last gen (according to them). It also doesn't have a dramatic next gen graphical wow factor (again, according to them). So then, how could they possibly score it high? It's obvious the reviewers wanted to feel the "oh yeah, this is sooo next gen" in at least one of these areas and felt it in neither. I find it hard to fault their logic there.

But yeah, I understand what you mean... for you, 2k6 is the best game out there.. even if it's just a little better thant the 2k6 you have from last gen... so you think of it like that... as a "it's the best" whereas they are thinking of it in a much bigger picture.

WTF? You agree with my statement about not jumping to conclusions and then proceed to say why NBA Live is better, thus jumping to a conclusion without playing it. YOU FAIL.

I love the "good stuff"

It's like they're saying the game was sub-par, but in a buddy-buddy kind of way. Anyways, damn. I was really hoping this game would turn out well. I'll have to see some other reviews first, but my expectations are certainly lowered.

he's a ntard busy being a self-parody from the mario kart thread. maybe it's time for a time out, since he can't seem to keep it in that place

Well...in his defense...

they did say this game is "good".

But, I don't own very many (if any) games that scored a 7.0 on 1up.com. In the world of 10 point scoring, anything < a 5.0 is an automatic failure. Then, it pretty much moves along like a regular grading scale.

I really hate the eupemistic scoring systems of some publications:

10 = perfect! (never played a perfect game)
9 = awesome
8 = great
7 = good stuff
6 = pretty good (pretty good pretty much sucks)
5 = okay
4 = fair (would you bang a girl that rated a 4?)
3 = not very good
2 = poor
1 = Acclaim
