NBA 2K9 Trailer + gameplay

I find it funny how folks use the uber close up shots of character faces to drive their opinion of what game looks better. 95% of the time, the camera is so far that those close ups don't matter. Though 2K has the edge in faces, Live holds its own in the close up shots of players and coaches during cut scenes and such...

One shrunk his head and the other blew it up. Let's meet in the middle!

It's like that with the player models in general. It's like how do you percieve basketball players. As tall, lanky, big doofuses (and nobody likes a big doofus) or as tall, berry bonds lookin mother fuckers (and nobody likes berry bonds)

you know whos in the middle? Fuckin Sony's NBA 0X, with their strange ass graphics where there are like two head types: Action Jackson and Omar Epps.

Is there a "be a pro" like mode in this game? Like the superstar mode in Madden?

It's the only thing i like to play offline in these sports games nowadays.

here's a nice breakdown of AI, Matchups and Spacing (2k9 vs 2k8)

Very good stuff there.

Will have to see the proof in the pudding myself before I'm completely sold on the offensive spacing aspect. The video is misleading in the respect that the 2K8 example just shows how quickly the defense can cover both the paint and the outside while in 2K9 the defense is engaged in a double team animation opening up the wide open j.

The vid doesn't surprise me because choops had better spacing than nba 2k8 and I would have been disappointed if 2k9 didn't improve on choops.

I would love to know why the pc version doesn't have cross platform play though.

Yeah it can quickly cover because man in the corner doesn't create space...

As Hunter D said if its anything like College Hoops 2k8 the spacing should be fantastic. The corner spot isn't the best one to show anyway since its easy to cover. And whilst they were showing how quickly you could cover both the paint and the outside, it also showed you couldn't go outside->paint->outside again. You can do it once, and probably cover a re-post but that would be it.

The big thing is players getting "lost" in screens and plays, which is something that made college hoops 2k8 so compelling.

Hopefully mods to the PC version of the NBA game will allow this to come to fruition.

I'll show you adaptive AI 2K

Couple of quick impressions from the demo :

The audio is very impressive for a stripped down demo, despite the fact that they took out a lot of sound/voice samples to make the download smaller.

One *big* problem I immediately noticed : the first free throw is laggy like last year's game pre-patch. The framerate dips to like 20-30 something during the freethrow animation and it makes it pretty hard to nail the first one.

2k managed to fix this one after the patch last year, hopefully they got the fix in before 2k9 went gold.
