NBA Offseason 2017 |OT| Only Big Ballers™ Allowed *please pay $495 to be a Big Baller

One thing that does suck is that it seems like the Spurs will give Pau more money, just stretched out over more years, at the end of this summer, whereas if they waited they would've had even more cap space in 2018.

It won't affect the Spurs too much. Even with a new Pau contract, Spurs are prolly going to have enough cap space to sign 2 all stars if they can/want after the upcoming season.

SAS says if Melo gets bought out he is going to Houston.

Just wanted to add something I realized just now

The former Knicks coach said in a long feature in “ESPN The Magazine” that he “quit” after “Anthony said the team needed to choose between him and D’Antoni.” D’Antoni resigned as Knicks coach in March 2012.

“I just went in and quit,” D’Antoni said in the story that mentioned his struggles getting through to Anthony and Kobe Bryant and covered the rebirth he’s enjoyed with the Rockets.

Favors is an expiring contract so a team would have to be really high on him and willing to give him a huge extension for him to be an asset. Exum has done zilch and is about to hit Summer League after his third season so I'm not sure how high his value is around the league. Utah might also have to keep him depending on what happens with Hill.
I did say it wouldn't happen.

Maybe "a ton" was wrong. But they could definitely beat any George offers being thrown around. For reference the Jazz traded for that #28 pick the Lakers were dangling and took Tony Bradley. So I guess he fits the bill too.

And I'd rather have Hood than Dunn, Lavine, Clarkson, or Randle.

Hood is another guy on an expiring contract though. Not sure Indy has much interest in trading George for "ok" players who are going to either be due for big pay days in a year, or are going to have to be let walk for nothing.

Weekly reminder Chris Paul and Blake Griffin locked a grown ass man in a room to make him sign with the LACs and they both probably gone

Wasnt Paul Pierce in the room too lol and he just retired, Doc prob bout to leave too thats 4 guys who convinced him to stay

Deandre shouldnt ever trust any other players bs, cuz they gonna do whats best for them when their time comes.

I'd like to point out that Daryl Morey has never won an executive of the year award.

Not in 2015 when he made a ton of trade deadline trades to help strengthen our injury hobbled team, got Ariza on a steal of a contract, came ridiculously close to getting Bosh (ok that shouldn't count), and Harden showed he was an MVP caliber player

Not in 2014 when we landed Dwight and had built up a good core (didn't even get a top 3 vote)

Not in 2013 when we traded for Harden, got Lin and Asik on those poison pill contracts, drafted Parsons (a 2nd round steal), and signed Beverley

The voting in 2013:

Masai Ujiri - Nuggets: 8 1st place, 6 2nd place, 1 3rd place, for a total of 59 points

Gary Sacks - Clippers: 3 1st place, 4 2nd place, 1 3rd place, for a total of 28 points

Daryl Morey - Rockets: 4 1st place, 1 2nd place, 2 3rd place, for a total of 25 points (tied with Knicks GM btw)

And now, in 2017, coming off a horrendous season where he:

1) Hires the COTY
2) Gets an associate head coach to specialize in defense
3) Gets Ryno and Gordon who have great healthy seasons (1 of whom becomes a 6MOY)
4) Capela has a breakout season, Dekker has a great, essentially rookie season, and Harrell, a 2nd round pick, has a great season too
5) Patrick Beverley and Trevor Ariza (continue) to demonstrate how ridiculous their steals for contracts are.
6) Trades Corey Brewer, a negative asset, for Lou Williams, a positive asset, at the cost of the 28th pick in the draft
7) Signs Nene in one of the best and most underrated free agent signings from last year
8) Extends Harden, after a season where many were down on his ability to lead a team

This was the EOTY voting this year, btw:

Bob Myers this year:
1) Signed Kevin Durant, whose recruitment was likely somewhat challenging yes, but who wouldn't make that move?
2) Got a ring chaser in David West on their team
3) Bought a 2nd round pick that became Patrick McCaw
4) Signed Javale McGee.
5) Signed Matt Barnes mid-way through the season
6) Waived Varejao

Good moves, yes, but also not risky, somewhat obvious tbh, had the benefit of a 73 win team to help with recruitment, etc.

Also who gave GarPax a 1st place vote? Who?

Also a reminder that Chris Broussard reported that Mark Cuban was driving around Dallas at 2 AM trying to find DeAndre Jordan so he could sign him

I'm confident in Morey's ability to consistently scrounge up role players from out of nowhere and D'Antoni's ability to help players have some of their best seasons under him.

Especially with Harden and CP3 running the offense, and with D'Antoni, I'm sure a couple of random players will have their trade value skyrocket by the trade deadline, if we need to make even more moves

So what's with all that talk about Daryl Morey "aggressively" persuing Paul George thing about? That's still going or nah?

Morey's strategy seems to be "pursue every star and worry about the fit later". Not necessarily a bad strategy. They've been linked to nearly every free agent.

Dammit I'm going to miss this man so fucking much.

Thanks for everything, Beverley, Sweet Lou, and Sam. One final sendoff of Sam Dekker who's a really good 3-point shooter, no doubt...

Surprised why he isn't considering the Raptors.

Come on Pacers we will give you Carroll for a 1 year rental

Demarre Carroll contract might be worse than Parsons.
Actually I take that back
Masai's plan to build the eastern version of lob city would be complete.

Until PG bolted to the Lakers that is.

Iirc, he also got a trade exception for the Lou Williams trade.

JJ Reddick gone too, thats another guy from the Deandre Jordan house lock down leaving, and they convinced him to stay haha

What do the Rockets even have to offer for PG?

I dont see how Indy will accept any deal from Houston for PG when they didnt accept the Lakers or Celtics deals of high picks and young assets

damn look at Morey go

jfc the man can't help himself, he always has to make moves XD

https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/6k25kk/combined_this_is_what_the_rockets_traded_to_get/
Combined, this is what the Rockets traded to get CP3 and James Harden: Kevin Martin, Jeremy Lamb, Sam Dekker, Patrick Beverley, Lou Williams, picks (that became Steven Adams, Alex Abrines and Mitch McGary), and a protected 2018 1st round pick (self.nba)
Daryl Morey built maybe the best backcourt in the NBA with table scraps. Somehow a bunch of bench players and three first round picks -- the No. 12 in 2013, the No. 21 in 2014, and a protected first rounder in 2018 -- gets you both Chris Paul and James Harden. Damn.

UPDATE: It was just reported that Montrezl Harrell is also going to the Clippers
