Well, that's one less reason for Malone to go to the Lakers... Hopefully he realizes the Spurs are where its at and he comes on down!

On Leykis this afternoon he mentioned a rumor that the Lakers want to go after Jason Kidd, and that Celtics trade was only part of the equation.

Well, at least Bill Simmons will be pimping the man, myth, and legend that is Gary Payton. Boston just assured themselves a spot in the Finals with this move.

It is sad to see the 2nd best PG ever behing Magic being traded around, though; damn near brings a tear to my eye... and for the fuck who called him a 'bench cancer' -- STFU.

Maybe Payton pans out for the Celtics or maybe not. If not he's gone at the end of the year and leaves more cap room for next year. If he does turn it around maybe the Celtics get deeper into the playoffs (or at least get a better seed than 8th). :)

I am not here to entertain, Matrix. With Payton leading the backcourt and having the WEAPON that is Pierce to dish off to, this team's limit is the sky. No longer will Payton be saddled with two ego-driven primadonnas and a shitty offensive system that takes years to fully understand and properly function in. Instead, he'll be back to his old roots of running a team-- only this time with an awesome weapon at his disposal.

At Clutchcity forums someone reported that 610 houston radio is saying Payton might be on the move to the Rockets from Boston for some other player and draft picks..Mig is this true?! Turn on your radio!

:(

edit- nevermind, the guy who posted it is friggin retarded...thank god.

hyperbolically metafictive
we've gone from shaq at center to the three-headed doughboy: vlade, slava, and chris mihm. :( :( :( :( :(

and i think this trade indicates that the lakers aren't going for jason kidd. payton and fox's k would have been important pieces in a kidd trade.

Uh, what's the problem? If Payton were traded to the Rockets, that'd be a fucking godsend for them. Houston needs all they help they can get, frankly...

Matt Jackson was talking about it on the Night Shift. I don't know if he said it'd be a good move. Or if he had heard somethign about it. At the moment, Payton is looking MUCH better than Ty Lue.

But anyway, hell, it could happen. Then Karl Malone would sign. Then I'd fucking kill myself. :(

We really WOULD be Lakers 2.0

Alas, that's just a healthy Hakeem and a a healthy (Horace) grant.

Scratch that, judged by all of the wrappings, Hakeem doesn't look healthy - he looks like a mummy. And now that I think of it, Toronto trading for the undead basically sounds like their current acquisition plan.

Kidd will probably go the Mavericks, though such a move only highlights how dumb a decision it was to not keep Steve Nash.

Regarding VC's apparant desire to go to New York (a team that's doomed to medicority for the next five years), the only reason I can think of that he'd consider it is because Nike would pay him a bundle to be there. I heard there was a similiar rumour or situation in place if Kobe Bryant had gone to New York (though the Lakers I reckon is at that level). Perhaps Nike has plans to drop the Shox VC line, since I doubt it's done much at retail due to it's price and VC's subpar seasons the last couple years. And the only way Nike will keep it going is for him to go to the Big Apple.

There's also been talk that his wife isn't currently eligible to work up here (she's in some sort of medical profession), so that probably plays a part in it either.

Those are the only two reasons that are possible, because nothing else makes any sense. He can't want to be there because the team's in any better shape then the Raptors. Aside from their willingess and ability to blow their brains out on salaries, this team is no better off then the Raptors in terms of talent or future, and is probably even worse. And it's coached by Lenny Wilkens, who VC ripped when he was fired last year. Though I assume Vince knows (along with most of the league) that it'll only take a two game losing streak next season for Isiah to blow his ass outta there and place himself on the bench. Then again, wasn't it Isiah who tried to embarass Vince into giving up his starting spot in the all star game for MJ last year, in front of the entire eastern conference roster? Why would Vince just look past that and want to play under (or with) Isiah now?

Bleh...Vince wanting to go to the Knicks makes absolutely no sense, Nike/money aspect aside. Isn't like the Knicks have dick all to offer for Vince anyway, outside of Marbury (who the Knicks won't trade, and I don't want) or Houston (who I simply don't want) individually.

If I'm the Raptors though, no fucking way I trade him...not now anyway. The Lakers got Lamar Odom, Caron Butler and Brian Grant for one of the most dominating forces in the history of professional sports. Based on that, the Raptors would be in line to get Brian Grant for Vince...if they're lucky.

And yeah, I know much of the Shaq trade had to deal with cap/contract issues as much as anything else (I said that would be the case all along), but trades like that still set the stage for the marketplace. No one's gonna be offering up a top twenty player for Vince at this stage, yet that's exactly what I'd be holding out for before I look at making a trade. I'm sure that's what the Raptors are doing as well.

is Jamal Crawford one of Dikembe Mutombo's illegitimate sons? Dude looks exactly like Deke.

as for Vince, the reason he wants out of Toronto is simple: He's a bitch. This is the guy that whined his way out of his shoe deal with Puma because the shoes hurt his feet. Fucking crybaby.

I used to watch Crawford and his peanut head play when he was in high school ! Love to see the local boys doing well. (Doug Christie, Jason Terry *same age as me, went to the same middle school and played against him in high school* and Crawford) Go washington!!!

I wouldn't call him a bust...he simply shouldn't have been drafted that high (the Raptors drafting record has been pretty woeful once you get by Damon, T-Mac and Vince). He developed into a pretty good rebounder and passer in 2003, and can get a few garbage hoops. Last season was a wash because he was injured for most of it, and never really had time to get back on his feet. To be honest I was kinda sad to see him go...he's a hard worker and doesn't quit, despite not being blessed with a lot of talent. And he's a nice guy too. So I hope he does well.

Uh, he sucks. That's a fact. Only the shitty Raptors would draft a player of that calibur and think he'd be able to produce. Of course, it seems they've repeated their mistake of 3 years ago with their selection this year. LOL. I'd hate to be a Raptors fan right now...seemingly no light at the end of the tunnel. Oh well, at least you all can enjoy the visiting teams.

How did you come to the conclusion that Ray Allen is a choke artist? He's nothing of the sort, however, he is CLUTCH when it matters. Unlike his presumed trading partner Vince "I got a cold -- can't play." Carter. What are the over/under's on VC being injured this year? 2 to 1? 5 to 1?

Blackace--

I was referring to Michael Bradley, the brilliant draft selection of the Toronto Raptors.

Let's see, Ray missed half the season last year, while Vince played 72 games. I'll take whatever odds you want to give me.

As for clutch shooting, I've got all sorts of videos of VC's game winning shots. Anyone who says he isn't clutch is simply a fool.

I do remember one clutch play Ray Allen made in the playoffs against the Magic though...exploded from outside the three point line and dunked it on T-Mac's mug to tie the game up with 1.6 seconds left in regulation. It was sick. Buthe was also on the Bucks team that choked away 6th spot in the playoffs to not even making them in a few weeks, so there ya go.

Lewis, Radmonavic, and Collinson(who will develop into a great PF according to Team USA coaches and reps who saw him in action last year). The Sonics have a great, young nucleus, but they're going to need a decent coach who'll instill some discipline and teach them the in's and out's of defense, and a good PG/C would be nice, too.

Shiblowme, Ray Allen was sidelined with a LEGITIMATE injury -- a broken foot. Not some sprained right middle finger or hangnail. And he was STILL selected by the reputable coaches to participate in the All-Star game, on the western squad, a conference that is comprised of a number of very talented guards. What does that say about Mr. Allen? Yea, that's what I thought...Start showing some respect, punk.

And don't give me that, "WELL VINCE WAS THE #1 VOTE GETTER!!!11" bullshit. Just becuase China has some sort of weird infatuation with the "Little Star Who Couldn't" doesn't mean he's actually deserving of that spot. Ask any coach in the NBA who'd they want at their two spot and you'll find that they want a skilled, explosive, dead-eyed shooter, and not prone to injury player by the name of Ray Allen.

Lewis is trash... a power forward body a small forward mind and no heart... I wish we would trade him so badly... but his stock has fallen sooooo far... Radmonavic was a steal but isn't a star... and Collinson I want to believe but I know better.....

He'd be Houston's problem right now if Seattle hadn't given him that last contract. Although, I doubt we'd ever have signed him. If we had, he'd have probably become Scottie Pippen 2

He was alomst Houston's problem twice... they promised him they would take him in the first round....

I think Lewis is a good player, but damn, he needs to get his head in the damn game. He's still very immature and it shows. Honestly, someone needs to knock him the fuck out so he'd wake up and realize what he's playing for. He has a lot of talent, but the apathy needs to go. You'd think that wouldn't be a problem after what he went through on draft night, but I guess not...

What makes you think I give a shit what Ray Allen was sidelined with? You don't seem to realize that Ray's rep for being soft isn't much better then VC's. Bottom line is, he missed half the season...Vince missed ten games. It's that simple. And half of those games missed was because of a sprained ankle on Bruce Bowen's sliding foot. And we both know what Ray Allen had to say about him just a few days prior.

And don't come back with me with my shit. OH NO, HE SAID DON'T COME BACK AT ME WITH...I BETTER DO THE SAME THING!! At least try and be original.

I still don't get why the Sonics traded Desmond Mason...I actually do like Ray Allen, but Desmond was drafted by the team and was a really popular player. At least they got rid of GP just in time...of course J-Anus probably still thinks he's a top five backcourt player in the game, forgetting the fact that virtually no one was banging his doors down for him a year ago. Hard to see clearly living in a bubble.

amen for the Mason thing.... I was sad to see GP go...but glad at least we got Ray in return instead of nothing... I just wished we would have kept the cowboy

All right, man, you're about to cross a line you DO NOT want to cross. Ray Allen is about as soft as a brick, so you can stop with that ridiculous theory of yours. Also, The Glove would be an asset on any team in the NBA. Don't be questioning what he brings to a team...

About the only thing Glove adds these days is comic relief.

And you can be in denial all you want, but Ray has been labeled as a soft player before (though not as soft as Vince).

And as my last post before nightfall, I guess we can all chew on this for a while...

Allen-for-Carter trade
possible, report says

Sonics All-Star guard reportedly
interested in joining Raptors

Sonics All-Star guard Ray Allen has told friends in Toronto that he is interested in playing for the Raptors, the Toronto Star reported Saturday.

NBCSports.com news services

Updated: 6:26 p.m. ET Aug. 7, 2004

TORONTO - Ray Allen of the Seattle Sonics is interested in playing for the Toronto Raptors, according to a handful of sources, the Toronto Star reported Saturday.

The Raptors probably would have to trade disenchanted superstar Vince Carter to the Sonics to make a deal for Allen plausible.

"He's interested in coming," one source close to Allen told the Star. "He thinks it'd be the right spot for him."

However, there is no sense the Raptors and Sonics have discussed any players, and Toronto general manager Rob Babcock told the Star on Thursday he is in no rush to trade Carter.

Carter, a five-time All-Star, through his agent Mark Steinberg and never in his own words, has let it be known he would be open for a deal, the Star reported, and reports have said New York is one of his preferred destinations.

It is believed the only player on the Knicks roster who would interest Babcock would be point guard Stephon Marbury, the Star reported. However, Marbury's contract, which has $91 million left on it, makes his chances of becoming a member of the Raptors remote, the Star reported.

However, Allen presents an intriguing possibility as someone with close ties to friends in Toronto from his days with the Milwaukee Bucks and someone who has many of the same attributes as Carter, the Star reported.

The 6-foot-5 guard averaged 23 points and 3.9 rebounds per game for the Sonics last season, when he battled ankle injuries for about half the season.

He has the type of up-tempo game that would fit perfectly with the style new coach Sam Mitchell wants the Raptors to play, the Star reported, and he could share the court with Jalen Rose and Rafer Alston in a high-powered backcourt.

Allen is due to make about $14.5 million this season and is on the last year of his contract, the Star reported. His deal is worth enough that he could be traded for Carter (about $12 million) with very little salary cap issues to be moved to Seattle.

The Sonics have not made any public declaration about Allen's desire to be moved, just as the Raptors kept Carter's request close to the vest until the latter's agent went public, the Star reported.

One source told the Star on Friday that Allen has hired an agent to help him deal with Sonics management.

Previously, Allen broke with NBA tradition and negotiated his own contract extension with the Bucks, hiring a lawyer to look over the final papers, the Star reported.

http://msnbc.msn.com/id/5634858/

I reckon if Vince is getting traded, this deal is easily the most likely one available. I'm not sure I make it if I'm the Sonics though, and it isn't because of what I think of the two players (I think Vince is a bit better, but their numbers are more or less the same). Ray is in the final year of his contract, and a wise move might be to play out the year with him, then use that cap space next year to go after someone (or someones) they really want. VC I think has four years left on his deal, and if he doesn't work out you're pretty much stuck with him.

I'd still rather keep Vince here then trade him...half of that is the fan in me talking, but I think with the up tempo style of play that the Raptors are planning to implement really suits his game, not unlike how they played in the 2000 season when he was throwing down two or three breakaway and alley oop dunks a night. Last year he finished 8th in the league in scoring on the lowest scoring team in the league, one that would keep the ball for 22 seconds on the shot clock before firing one off. Not to mention a team with no center, and no competent, reliable point guard (Alvin was banged up big time last year). Well the center thing is still a question mark, but at least the Raps have a competent point guard in Rafer back in purple who'll push the ball up and spread the floor. It's exactly what Vince needs. So I hope things can be worked out...I know his issue isn't with the team or the new management that's been hired, just the higher ups.

Vince missed ten games. It's that simple. And half of those games missed was because of a sprained ankle on Bruce Bowen's sliding foot. And we both know what Ray Allen had to say about him just a few days prior.

Ah, both marshmellow men against Bruce "Lee" Bowen. I laugh at their pussiness. :p

Bruce Bowen is a pussy who believes slapping players with his hands and tripping landing shooters is an acceptable form of defense. When I'm at the Spurs games this year, I'll be sure to let him know that.

Uhh, no. Kobe left adidias because his contract was up. Vince got some judge to tear up his Puma contract because his poor little feet hurt. Kinda like how Kobe kept his mouth shut and waited til he became and ACTUAL free agent (**gasp** What an idea!) before making demands and making a decision about where he wants to play, while Peja/Vince/Shaq/Kidd/Tmac all wanna whine and bitch while they are under contract.
