NBA rejects EAs bid for exclusive deal

Wow if EA might be trying to kill Ubi's And1 game.... hmmmm an And1 game could sell well in the states.

maybe THIS will change your mind NBA!

that's right, a few thousands dollars CASH!

p.s. poor EA. these scumbags are blackballing them now :( no justice no peace!

Just because the NBA turned down the initial offering doesn't mean they will turn down successive, larger offerings.

depends on how much money it is. i doubt EA would offer money equal to what mlb/nhl would get in royalties from all the other games.

anyways, i'm glad EA didnt get this deal and i hope they get no more exclusives (as far as sports are concerned). i think the nfl deal was a bummer, but the silver lining is at least it's madden which is by far and away the best football game on the market. it would suck if nba live (which is inferior to espn nba overall) were the only BBall game.

b.b.b...but, i thought it was the nfl that approached ea to sign the exclusive deal? obviously thats NOT the case for basketball

NBA should take it honestly, the way their business is down - they are stupid not too. There's no MJ's or Bird's coming through that door - they better get as much $$$ from marketing as they can now.

Wait .. people still care about the NBA? :lol

Only if someone either goes up into the stands and beats on fans or allegedly has non-consentual sex with a hotel worker.

They have Bron Bron, they are fine.

WTF @ this logic

Holy shit... I thought the Ubisoft/NFL exclusivity stuff was it - but now THIS?

You know, I'd love to give them the benefit of a doubt but this is getting pretty damn scary now... wtf

But according to 99% of hardcore NBA fans on this board....

i would have much rather they got the NBA license than the NFL license. at least in the NFL EA has some good competition from other games like NFL 2Kx. sega's nba game is not that great (its good, just not great like their nfl game is).

NHL will take this in a hearbeat, they are only worth about 5 mill now anyways

NHL? Whassat? I thought they folded.

Oh, wait... that's still to come... unless it's the No Hockey League.

well.. it could have been that the NFL triggered this line of thinking. either way. damn you EA and the NFL..

EA has got to be gearing up for a console.

Thats the same thing I'm thinking. Buying official sports licenses is pretty much a done deal for success if youre going to release a console in North America. No cometition in the genre, having your userbase buy a new version every year because the previous year is no longer playable online, charging for roster updates, just watch,it may happen.

Do you all really believe that Sega, MS, Namco, ect. never brought exclusivity when negotiating license contracts?

If you guys read the full article it also mentiones that EA was considering approaching the MLB about exclusivity as well, but that atleast 1 publisher has renewed its deal with them so it cant happen now. WHEW.

As an avid baseball fan(best sport around baby)and a fan of both World Series Baseball(I refuse to call it that trashy ESPN name) and MVP I'm happy as can be that all 3rd partys still have the option to make fully licensed baseball games. Whether its Slugfest,World Series,or MVP,anyone,I'm given a choice, thank god for that.
