NBA rejects EAs bid for exclusive deal

EA has got to be gearing up for a console.

I doubt, but Sony stands a whole lot to lose. Ms can rely on Halo and pc stuff. Nintendo is Nintendo. Sony loses Ea and they could be hurt bad, especially depending on take 2.

+2 for IGN Sports for actually doing some real reporting lately, not reprinting PR crap.

-1 for IGN for its over reliance on annonymous sources.

THANK god or alah or whoever the F...
I just wish the NFL and NFLPA had enough class that they would have done the same.

Street Hoops is basically an And1 Game. We all knew this was happening, MLB won't be exclusive because if you read the report some dev got a license already to reup MLB, NHL would sell their souls right about now...and that would be it...maybe F1, Indy, WRC...English Premier League....the rights to Nike/Reebok/Adidas...the right to use the words "I", "it", "the"...and "video" "game" " software". People will start calling "games" round discs.

DCX

Man, that means the NHL is next. NHL will fold at the first sight of a beer keg. They'd probably give EA a free team as well.

yeah, but EA would have to wait until current contracts with other publishers have ended.

wait a sec...it's the NHL! >.<

Even if NBA rejects EA's offer, EA is going after NHL, MLB and if they get one of those, ESPN Sports will fold. They're not planning on signing every league, they're just trying to drive their competitors out of business. Once they do that, there will not be a need for exclusive licensing deals.

EA is a monoply and must be stopped, people have to stop buying their games, but the average consumer doesn't know what's going on. They see EA name on the cover and they buy.

Doesn't this go against what EA sympathizers were saying in that the NFL approached them?

How so? NFL approaches ALL the publishers over a year ago, EA gets the deal. They wonder if they can get the NBA as well, it doesn't work out.

Oh, noooooooo... people can't think for themselves!

You're right, old chum. They must be stopped. Holy monopoly!!! To the anti-trustmobile!

Jesus. Some people need to find another freaking hobby if they can't enjoy this one.

I'm trying; EA just seems hell-bent on making it just a bit harder by taking away as many of my options for sports "fun" as possible.

EA could by NHL the whole leaugue itself.

If they do get exclusive rights to nhl then2k5 is the last NHL video game i will ever play.

NBA should take it honestly, the way their business is down - they are stupid not too. There's no MJ's or Bird's coming through that door - they better get as much $$$ from marketing as they can now.

They have Lebron James, and at least 5 more years of Chris Webber.
The NBA is in some of the softest best hands in the world.

All NFL Games suck anyway, give me Blitz

Madden doesn't suck though.

Laugh it up Astro,you know it's true,heh.

Anyone who could say ESPN NBA is a good game this year needs to be kicked in the balls,Live was ok,but was fuckin awful online so that does me no good.I could do without both honestly, they are just riddled with problems...hell NBA Street is probably more realistic than both of them :lol

and at least 5 more years of Chris Webber.

Yea,he's a real crowd pleaser,c'mon,at least say Garnett or Duncan.

From now on you should stick to threads requiring your opinion about games and not get involved in threads that involve the business aspect of games and how it might ultimately affect gamers. "All NBA games sux anyway LOLZORZ!" Well, guess what, they're not getting any fucking better if EA's stinking shitpile is the only NBA game anyone is working on, so thank God that for now that's not the case.

So does this debunk that bullshit PR from one of the EA guys who claimed that the NFL was shopping around for an exclusive license? And EA was merely the highest bidder?

If anyone needs me, I'll be in the angry dome!

Well I tell ya Astro,we've had about 4 basketball games from each company this gen I guess and they've all sucked shit, keep holding on to false hope!

:lol Boy,this really tears you up I see with dumb posts like that :P

The rest of what you said was pretty fucking stupid, but I could not let this stand.

Webber dances for the crowd, all Garnett can do is go for the cheap

"I'm a stupid motherfucker" look. IIf you think Duncan is a crowd pleaser, you have even bigger issues than I will try to address.

Keep posting and I'll keep pointing out how dumb and irrelevant your posts are. Why don't you go make a thread called "I Don't Like NBA Games (EXCEPT STREET- SLAMALAMMADINGDONG!) So Who Cares If There is Only One Company That Can Make Them!" so your posts will actually have one ounce of relevance.

Ahhh... Chris Webber. Mr. Perjury. There's a role model for ya. At least LeBron hasn't done anything stupid-- yet. Like Kobe, his time will come.

Look out, NBA-- NASCAR is right on your tail for second place behind the NFL in terms of popularity... oh, and EA alredy has an exclusive deal with NASCAR.

So you agree that all the games suck?

I'm saying it doesn't matter. If anything it supports the argument that EA getting an exclusive license would be bad, as then there would be even less hope of getting a good game, even if you don't like the games now.

This thread isn't about whether the games suck or not, start your own thread!!!! ;P

ramirez is right about nba games sucking nuts this year. i actually dont have a problem with NBA Live offline, where you can adjust the speed and stuff, but online is a fucking disaster. i never want to play that crapfest again.

espn nba is equally shitty but for different reasons. i'm in a couple espn nba leagues, but its not for the gameplay. the gameplay isn't much fun and the AI (particularly in the post) is likely the worst i have seen in a basketball game in a decade (exaggerated i know but its awful).

when it comes to the NBA license: Whoever wins, we lose

Well if you ask me,EA has made more strides in their games throughout the gen while ESPN seems to get worse. But still both suck at the end of the day...

An exclusive wouldn't help the matter, but I honestly don't think it matters.

If just one company gets the license, we do all lose (at least anyone open to playing the best game regardless of publisher), just like with football, but this is always the case regardless of how good or bad you think the games are.

well football i actually care about, because you have 1 game that is already awesome (madden) and a game that is very good, but just a couple steps behind (espn nfl). sucks that ea pulled the rug out from under them but that is for another discussion.

when it comes to basket ball, i couldn't care LESS whether EA, sega, 989, WHOEVER, got that exclusive licensing deal cause they all suck complete nuts and i dont see them getting much better over time anyhow.

I don't know about NHL...I'm sure the there are some (in the US especially) who were introduced to hockey via the videogame incarnation.

I can write an essay on my theory as to why Americans haven't adopted hockey, despite it being a far superior sport to football or baseball*, and one reason is that they haven't played it before. I can go skate in many free outdoor rinks here in Calgary, but a Tampa fan has to pay to rent a rink. Anyways, the point is that many Americans HAVE played hockey...through videogames.

And so the NHL, being a sport that really needs to reach out to a new audience, NEEDS hockey videogames.

And as such, crap games such as EA's will do the NHL more harm than good. Therefore if the NHL wants to make a sound decision, they'd decline it. Sure, $100 mil or whatever EA plans to pay would be useful for the short term...but in the long term it would hurt the image and integrity of the game.

*don't take that too seriously, I was kidding :) Hockey has a lot of elements that Americans love in their sports. It's fast paced, hard hitting, relies on teamwork, and has a lot of finesse...when there's no clutching and grabbing of course. Whether or not it's better is up to each person.

Hockey videogames are so much about luck,I don't know how anyone takes them seriously :P

Well...after that comment, it'll be hard to take you seriously. :)

At least you've played hockey videogames. The norm of the board is to have someone who hasn't played one to make such comments :P

Oh and as far as the $100 mil number goes...EA's going to have to hand over extra cash to convince anyone to give them exclusive rights to a crapilicious series.

:lol :lol :lol :lol :lol

Wipe your chin off, dude.

Well...after that comment, it'll be hard to take you seriously.

I wouldn't make a comment like that without some factual evidence to put behind it :P

I was 9-2 with the Coyotes, beating supposed "hockey vets" in our league, yet I don't know the first thing about hockey :lol

Yeah I know, I was kidding. As I said, I know you play it and did well...somehow. :P Like I said before, that was the measely GA league. :)
